Named to the 1980s squad were forwards Tony Hrkac of North Dakota, Pat Micheletti of Minnesota and Bill Watson of Minnesota Duluth; defensemen Tom Kurvers of Minnesota Duluth and Chris Chelios of Wisconsin and goaltender Robb Stauber of Minnesota. The six players combined for four Hobey Baker awards, four WCHA MVP awards, three WCHA Scoring Championships, two WCHA Goaltending Championships, six All-America awards, 14 All-WCHA honors and 11 Frozen Four appearances during their collegiate careers. The WCHA will announce its 1980s Coach of the Decade on Feb. 3 and its Player of the Decade on Feb. 4. The 1980s team is the fourth of seven squads that will be announced by the WCHA during the 2020-21 season. The WCHA will also honor an outstanding head coach and player from each decade as the league celebrates 70 Years of Excellence.
