It analyzes Product Placement as the embedding of an advertising message within a fictional one, as the insertion of a trademarked object into the realisms of filmic space, and as the incorporation of corporate remakings of the world with film fictions.

  • Read Our Interview with Earl Cameron Here
INTERVIEW WITH ‘PINDER’ AKA EARL CAMERON, AUGUST 2012 Interview by Anders Frejdh, Editor of From Sweden with Love. Did you always want to become an actor? I had, from my early childhood, a secret yearning for acting but I was far too shy to mention it to anyone. How did you become involved in Thunderball in the first place? I had worked on three films with Coby Brockley "Safaria, Odongo and Killers of Killers of Kilamanjaro" and he wanted me on the first Bond picture "Dr. No" but Saltzman did not think I was right for the part of quarrel however when "Thunderball came along" the part of Pinder came my way. How did you prepare for the film once you were contracted? Did you read the novel or any other of the Fleming novels? I never read any of the Ian Fleming's novels, but the part of Pinder is fairly straight forward which did not cause for much study. How was it like filming on location in the Bahamas? Location on Nassau was very glamorous, more than any other I had or have been on in my seven weeks there was a delight. What did you think about the relationship between Sean Connery and the rest of the crew? As I remember, in relationship with Connery, he was extremely friendly and also with myself. What happened at the end of filming this film, any end-of-shooting party or similar event? Did you attend the premiere and/or any other Bond film premieres over the years? I did not attend the premiere as I was away at the time of the event, in fact, at the end of the filming, I was in Manchester at Grenada Television working on a Production "The Life of Bessie Smith".

Hester This dissertation was prepared under the direction of the candidate's dissertation advisor, Dr. Jane Caputi, Center for Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, Communication, and Multimedia and has been approved by the members of his supervisory committee. It was submitted to the faculty of the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters and was accepted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. Khaled Sobhan, Ph.D. Interim Dean, Graduate College iii ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Jane Caputi for guiding me through this process. She was truly there from this paper’s incubation as it was in her Sex, Violence, and Hollywood class where the idea that James Bond could be repressing his homosexuality first revealed itself to me. She encouraged the exploration and was an unbelievable sounding board every step to fruition. Stephen Charbonneau has also been an invaluable resource. Frankly, he changed the way I look at film. His door has always been open and he has given honest feedback and good advice. Oliver Buckton possesses a knowledge of James Bond that is unparalleled. I marvel at how he retains such information.

  • Allen Rostron, the Law and Order Theme in Political and Popular Culture
OCULREV Fall 2012 Rostron 323-395 (Do Not Delete) 12/17/2012 10:59 AM OKLAHOMA CITY UNIVERSITY LAW REVIEW VOLUME 37 FALL 2012 NUMBER 3 ARTICLES THE LAW AND ORDER THEME IN POLITICAL AND POPULAR CULTURE Allen Rostron I. INTRODUCTION “Law and order” became a potent theme in American politics in the 1960s. With that simple phrase, politicians evoked a litany of troubles plaguing the country, from street crime to racial unrest, urban riots, and unruly student protests. Calling for law and order became a shorthand way of expressing contempt for everything that was wrong with the modern permissive society and calling for a return to the discipline and values of the past. The law and order rallying cry also signified intense opposition to the Supreme Court’s expansion of the constitutional rights of accused criminals. In the eyes of law and order conservatives, judges needed to stop coddling criminals and letting them go free on legal technicalities. In 1968, Richard Nixon made himself the law and order candidate and won the White House, and his administration continued to trumpet the law and order theme and blame weak-kneed liberals, The William R. • James Bond 007 Analysis Codebook
1 James Bond 007 Analysis Codebook Kimberly A. Neuendorf, Ph.D. Patrika Janstova Sharon Snyder-Suhy Vito Flitt School of Communication, Cleveland State University & Thomas D. Gore, M.A. School of Communication Studies, Kent State University REVISED September 29, 2010 Unit of Data Collection: Each female character depicted in each Bond film who speaks in the film to any other character, or who does not speak but is introduced by another character, or who does not speak but is shown and referred to by another character, or is shown in close-up (i.e., head shot or head and shoulders shot), or engages in any codable sexual behavior, or experiences codable physical harm. When judging whether the female character speaks or is referred to, the coder must be able to both hear the female character and see that character’s mouth moving as she speaks, or must hear her name when she is introduced or referred to. In addition, only females that appear to be over the age of 18 will be coded (no teenagers or children). Other Coding Instructions: Do not code the opening or closing credits. For all coding, use only the information available to you as a viewer (i.e., do not use information you might have as a fan of Bond films, a fan of a particular actor, etc.). Code a female character’s use of weapons/target of weapons only from the point at which she becomes a codable character. That is, if early in the film, a group of undifferentiated (and uncodable) females are carrying guns, and then later one of them becomes codable because she kisses Bond, do not go back and code her earlier gun-carrying behavior.
