Sw., Calliandra surinamensis Benth., Cassia grandis L. f., Delonix regia (Bojer ex Hook.) Raf., Inga vera Willd., I. laurina (Sw.) Willd., Mimosa caesalpiniifolia Benth., M. pudica L., Myroxylon peruiferum L. f., Platypodium elegans Vogel, Poincianella pluviosa (DC.) L.P. Queiroz, Senna multijuga (Rich.) H.S. The results showed that Fabaceae is euripalinous, displaying small, medium, large and very large sized pollen grains, dispersed in monads, tetrads and polyads, 3-colporate, 3-colpate, 4-(5)-(6)-24-porate, and with psilate, rugulate, reticulate-rugulate, retipilate to striate-reticulate sexine. Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate the internal morphology of Platypodium elegans Vog. seeds through the X-ray tests and to verify their relation with germination. 200 radiographic images were taken of each group and the tests were taken with the seeds set at 28.0 cm from the source of x-rays. Next, the seeds were classified according to their internal morphology as seen in the radiographic images. Three categories of seeds were established: full, empty and partially full. For each seed category, germination tests were performed. Statistical design in factorial 3x3, with three groups and three categories. From the results obtained in this work, the use of x-ray test with Platypodium elegans Vog. seeds is promising in quality of seed groups detection, assisting in empty and partially full seeds separation, invalidating their immediate use or storage. The x-ray test, in 26 kV for 1.2 seconds intensity was efficient in Platypodium elegans Vog. internal morpholy evaluation. There is a relationship between the internal morphology of seeds and the results of the germination test. -

De esta forma se establece una relación muy fuerte entre am- bos, planta-polinizador, y cuanto mayor es la especialización, tal como sucede en un gran número de especies de orquídeas y cactáceas entre otros grupos, ésta se torna más vulnerable ante cambios ambientales naturales o producidos por el hombre. De esta forma, el estudio de este tipo de interacciones resulta cada vez más importante en vista del incremento de áreas perturbadas o modificadas de manera antrópica en las cuales la fauna y flora queda expuesta a adaptarse a las nuevas condiciones o desaparecer. -
The Macrofauna of Water-Filled Tree Holes on Barro Colorado Island

Yanoviak2 Department of Zoology, University of Oklahoma, Norman, Oklahoma 73019, U.S.A. ABSTRACT The fauna of water-®lled tree holes in Neotropical forests is not well documented. Cumulatively, 54 macroinvertebrate and 5 vertebrate taxa were found in arti®cial and natural tree holes censused over four wet seasons on Barro Colorado Island, Panama. Most of the species were in the insect order Diptera, occurred as aquatic larvae in tree holes, and were detritivore/omnivores. Half (49%) of the collected species are considered specialists in this and similar container habitats, and three invertebrate taxa were previously unknown from tree holes. Successional patterns were weak in tree holes, but some taxa predictably colonized holes shortly after they were ®lled. The mosquito Culex urichii was more common and abundant in arti®cial than in natural tree holes; occurrence frequencies and densities of most other taxa were similar between hole types. RESUMEN La macrofauna de reservorios de agua en los huecos de los aÂrboles de bosques neotropicales no ha sido bien docu- mentada. En total, 54 grupos de macroinvertebrados y 5 grupos de vertebrados fueron encontrados en huecos arti®- ciales y naturales examinados durante cuatro estaciones lluviosas en la Isla Barro Colorado, PanamaÂ. De las especies encontradas, la mayorõÂa pertenecen al orden Diptera. TambieÂn, la mayorõÂa ocurren como larvas acuaÂticas y son detrõÂvoros/omnõÂvoros. Cerca de la mitad (49%) de las especies son consideradas como especialistas en este tipo de haÂbitat y reservorios similares, y tres grupos de invertebrados no han sido reportados en los huecos de los aÂrboles. -
