It is 1.8 meters in height.

The wall can be seen from various points in Northdale.

Keroshini Paltu he mystery surrounding the building of what residents Thave dubbed the “Great Wall of Northdale” has finally been solved. The land on which the two-and-half-kilometre wall is built belongs to local businessman Suren Harrilall. In an interview with the Public Eye, Harrilall said the wall was been built for security reasons. “According to the law, the onus is on the owner to secure and maintain their property which is simply what I have done. It has been built over a period of three months and borders Boundary Road,” he said. Harrilall, who purchased the land recently, didn’t think that the build- ing of the wall would cause such a stir in the community. “Some people on Boundary Road welcomed the building of the wall. There are several footpaths on the land and some residents said they felt better with the wall being built because there have been several burglaries in the area,” he said. A resident on Boundary Road, who wished to remain anonymous, said, “My family and I feel safer knowing this wall has been put in place. Over the years, crime in the area has increased.” A few weeks ago, curious resi- dents started asking about the wall. Suraya Govender from Ganges Road in Belfort said, “This wall went up in no time. We are just curi- ous to know what the purpose of this wall was. It is good to know that the area will be a little safer now.” The wall can be seen from vari- ous points in Northdale. Harrilall encourages other property owners to consider securing their property as well.
