They are universally grown throughout the United States. In the Deep South they may be grown and flowered out of doors. In all parts of •he country they are suc cessfully grown indoors in pots for late winter and early spring flowers. Since they are perennials the purchase of an amaryllis bulb represents a long time investment in beauty and pleasure. The Ludwig Strain of named Dutch hybrids will be received from Holland in Novem ber. Since the Ludwig varieties will be shipped from Holland in the middle of October the final order to these exporters must leave Baton Rouge on October 1st. Every season a number of customers are disappointed in receiving the varieties which they wanted because they waited too late to order, so please order early this season. Amaryllis bulbs make nice Christmas presents to friends and relatives who are flower lovers. Send your gift card along with shipping instructions to this nursery. At the proper time your card will be mailed along with the bulbs directly to the person for whom the gift is intended. Red leaf spot or red fire, caused by the fungus Stagonospo'Y'a curtisii, has become wide-spread throughout the country and it seems to be present on many of the imported bulbs. To eliminate the bulb-borne phase of this disease it is recommended that dormant bulbs be soaked for two hours in a solution of one ounce of commercial formaldehyde to about llh gallons of water. The severity of the disease on the foliage may be lessened by spraying the plants at weekly intervals with neutral copper, "Captan" or "Fermate" at the rate of 1 ounce to 2 gallons of water. Dutch hybrid Amaryllis are of a full, fiat, rounded form. Usually there are two scapes per bulb and three to four 8" flowers on each scape. 3 NO GUARANTEE OF VARIETIES. The growers and exporters in Holland are considered to be reliable, but occasionally a few bulbs are found to be incorrectly labeled. The exporters do not guarantee their bulbs as to variety, and this obligation cannot be assumed by the retail dealer who has never seen the bulbs in flower. Orders will be scrupulously filled in accordance with the labels on the bulbs when they are received, but this nursery makes no guarantee that the bulbs were correctly labeled in Holland.
