CLIPIT is the name Spyderco calls their folding knives that have a pocket (clothing) clip. The term is synonymous with the quality level and functional-performance people experience when carrying and using a CLIPIT. All CLIPITs have a pocket clip, a Spyderco Round Hole for single-hand operation, and an exceptionally sharp cutting edge. It’s who we are. C07Police Model pyderco introduced a one-hand-open clip carry folder in 1981. SPeople using knives for work (law enforcement o cers for example) immediately recognized these features as a function they wanted in their work tools, petitioning Spyderco for a knife tailored to their require- ments. Today, his descendants still own the company, which employs around 100 people, produces 4 million knives per year and sells to 70 countries across the world. The name, personifies Spyderco’s line of folding knives with clips. The verb refers to the physical action of being able to clip the knife to your clothing. We’re human and creatures of convenience. Minute by minute we create, adjust and are predisposed to gravitate to the tool that performs best and is easily applied to the task in front of us. Illustrating that instinctive quest for the best, explains the success of the CLIPIT knife. Almost all Spyderco knives are CLIPITs. The idea surfaced in the 1980s when Sal Glesser (Spyderco’s founder) imagined, then designed, a folding pocketknife with three revolutionary features: A clothing clip, a way to open the knife with one-hand (The Spyderco Round Hole) and serrations on a folding knife blade. These concepts lifted pocketknife function to a higher level. Clips shifted the knife’s weight from the bottom of a pocket to the top, attaching the knife inside so it sat/rode flat regardless of size and wasn’t as likely to be dropped or lost. The Spyderco Round Hole enabled the folder’s blade to open with one hand, leaving your other hand free.
