July 2001 In exercise of the powers conferred on the Department of Transport by section 38(1) of the Highways Act 1986', and of all other enabling powers, the following Order is hereby made: - Citation, commencement and revocation 1. (1) This Order may be cited as the Unmade Highways in Rural Areas (Temporary Closure)(Foot and Mouth Disease Precautions)(No. 5) Order 2001; (2) Subject to the Department of Transport giving public notice in accordance with section 38(3) of the Highways Act 1986 of the making of this Order, this Order shall come into operation on the 14th.     NEWSLETTER Winter 2013 Editor – Douglas Barr-Hamilton Melodious Mhelliah Our annual Mhelliah thanksgiving service was held on Monday 7th October at St. Bride's Church, Fleet Street. Twenty-nine members and friends attended but, greatly missed, was MC and Treasurer Sam Weller and his wife Mary who had been called away to give help to family in-laws that were unwell. But very welcome back among us was Rose Fowler and Wendy who was on holiday from work. Terence and Christine Brack had come from the Island and some familiar faces like Margaret Hunt (who had been with us on Tynwald Day), Voirry and Robin Carr from Oxford, the Moore twins, Margaret and Maureen who grew up in Peel and Maureen Lomas brought a friend from South Africa. Sam, with his usual efficiency, had sent us a tick list of duties which Alastair, Stewart and Douglas were attending to when we arrived. We were welcomed by Alastair, our President, and the service was taken by past Bishop of Sodor and Mann, the Right Reverend Graeme Knowles. He drew our attention to the bidding prayer written by Bishop Wilson (1698-1755) who was also responsible for the act of worship before the herring fleet set out for a night's fishing. He spoke of each one of us being a walking harvest festival, possessing individual gifts and talents given by God of which we are stewards and need to react to throughout our lives. Our Island heritage was also one of God's gifts for which we give heartfelt thanks. There followed Maisie's wonderful recitation of the Lord's Prayer (Padiyr y Dhirn) in Manx and Margaret Brady played all our favourite harvest hymns leading us so well that Bishop commended us for our singing.

    Eight Hour Coastal Tour To start this coastal tour, you will be picked up at the Sea Terminal and driven north along Douglas Promenade, around Onchan Head and along the coast road to Groudle Glen. Groundle Glen After a short time spent relaxing, walking in the Glen and taking in the sea views, we drive on towards Laxey. Laxey After spending a little while wandering around Laxey’s quaint waterfront, we set off North along the coastal road stopping at Dhoon Glen. Dhoon Glen Dhoon Glen is picturesque but the walk down to the sea is very steep. Some people may find it too difficult to walk back, so if you are a little unsteady on your feet or prone to get tired on steep walks you may wish to stay on the higher level of the Glen. For those who are a little fitter, the walk down to the sea has its rewards. The Glen is only small but very beautiful and boasts a small waterfall. When we leave Doon Glen, we carry on north toward Ramsey, passing through Glen Mona village and the parish of Margould. Ramsey Ramsey is the second largest town on the Isle of Man and has quite a nice choice of shops. You may wish to spend a little time here browsing through the many small shops along the high Street (Parliament Street). You will also get the chance for a little refreshment in one of the town’s cafes or pubs. When we leave Ramsey, we travel further north to the Point of Ayre Lighthouse.
