Dear Parents/Carers It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Colliston Primary School. We hope your child’s time with us will be happy, rewarding and successful. The purpose of this handbook is to provide you with information about the school, our aims and our routines. We aim to provide a safe, happy and secure learning environment for all children so that they will look forward to coming to school and will be able to give their best throughout the school day. We promote good behaviour and pride ourselves on maintaining a positive ethos so that all children feel valued and respected and develop high self- esteem. We look forward to working with you and recognise the important role you play in your child's education. It is crucial that as your child progresses through school your involvement continues and we maintain a close partnership. I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to come into the school to discuss any matter regarding your child’s education, no matter how small, with me or any other member of staff. We believe that a good parent/teacher partnership will ensure that your child receives the best possible education during his or her time at Colliston Primary School. SCHOOL UNIFORM Please make sure all items of clothing are clearly marked with your child’s name and check regularly to make sure it has not faded during washing. The Parents of children at Colliston Primary School support the wearing of school uniform and all of our children attend school in uniform. This develops a positive sense of belonging and identity with the school. School polo shirts, sweatshirts jackets and ties can be bought through the school office. We aim to develop children’s independence skills. Please help by dressing your child in clothes which they can easily manage - elasticated trousers, “Velcro” fastening shoes etc. until they are able to cope with zips, buttons and laces on their own. 5 Preschool Uniform Preschool children wear: A pale blue Colliston polo shirt Red Colliston sweatshirt Navy blue trousers or skirt and navy blue tights Black shoes. There are also red Colliston jackets which have hoods and are fleece lined (which are ideal for daily outdoor play in all weathers.) PE Kit The children also need to bring gym shoes which should be kept in school in a gym bag. As the children play outdoors when ever possible please make sure they are warmly dressed and have waterproof clothes and boots with them. We do have a change of clothes available should any ‘unplanned mishaps’ occur, but please feel free to provide your own. In pre-school aprons are provided for the ‘messier’ activities. Primary 1-7 uniform Primary 1 – 7 children wear: A pale blue dress shirt or blouse Navy trousers or skirt Navy school sweatshirt/cardigan Black shoes Red tie Blue cotton dresses may be worn in the summer. There are also navy Colliston jackets which have hoods and are fleece lined. Please make sure your child brings a waterproof jacket and shoes every day as we go outdoors for playtimes as often as possible, even if it is drizzling. PE Kit Each Primary 1-7 child requires shorts, a blue Colliston polo shirt and plimsolls (preferably black) to take part in PE lessons. Children are not permitted to wear any jewellery during PE lessons and staff are not allowed to help children remove pierced earrings. If your child cannot remove these themselves please do not bring them on PE days or bring micropore tape to cover them. 6 Painting Overall Please send in an old adult’s shirt or T-shirt to be used to cover your child’s clothes during art-work. All clothing brought to school should be named or marked in some way, as it is difficult for children to distinguish their own clothing from others. PARENTAL CONCERNS Parents should contact the school quickly if they have a concern. It is our wish to deal with all matters as quickly as possible, preventing them from growing into significant concerns. Please contact your child’s class teacher in the first instance or if you would prefer to discuss the issue with the Head Teacher please telephone the school to arrange an appointment for a chat. The staff will listen to your concern and agree a way forward with you. They will follow-up the initial conversation to ensure all matters have been resolved satisfactorily. THE COMPLAINTS PROCEDURE – also see link below: http://www.angus.gov.uk/info/20252/customer_care/209/making_a_complaint_or_comment_abo ut_our_services PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT BECOMING INVOLVED IN SCHOOL The school values the important part that parents play in their children’s education and views partnership with parents as an effective way of enhancing children’s achievements and attainments and promoting better school ethos. REPORT NO 768/01 ANGUS COUNCIL POLICY AND RESOURCES COMMITTEE 19 JUNE 2001 LOCAL CAPITAL FUND –MONITORING REPORT YEAR TO 31 MARCH 2001 REPORT BY THE DIRECTOR OF FINANCE ABSTRACT The purpose of this report is to apprise members of the progress of the projects funded from the Local Capital Fund, to outline the actual spend for the year to 31 March 2001 and indicate the projected outturn on projects. 1. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the Committee notes the contents of this report for its interest. 2. INTRODUCTION In 1996/97, the Council established a Local Capital Fund (LCF) and subsequent contributions were made to the Fund in the following three years. The Fund, together with external match funding, is used to finance projects which will make a positive contribution to the Angus economy. A number of projects have been approved for funding over the preceding three years, some of which have now been completed. It is the progress of the ongoing 7 projects which is the subject of this monitoring report. In setting the 2001/02 revenue and capital budgets, the Council recognised the requirement to fund expenditure which could not be accommodated in those budgets. It was therefore agreed to transfer resources from the LCF to fund e-government initiatives and a programme of skid resistance and aligned road safety (report No 334/01 refers). Consequently there are no resources held within the LCF available to fund further projects at this time. It is not intended to report on the progress of these initiatives within this report.

  • Lord Fraser to Highlight Red Lichties' Impact on the World
1 For immediate release: March 20 2008 Lord Fraser to highlight Red Lichties’ impact on the world Next time you lick a stamp or switch on a light, consider - it all began in Arbroath! This will be the contention of former Lord Advocate, Lord Fraser of Carmyllie, QC when he makes the case at Angus College (Tuesday 25 March) for the significant contribution that the people of Arbroath have made to the rest of the world. David Dunbar Buick, the founder of one of the mightiest car companies the world has ever known, was born in Arbroath. William Small, a son of the manse at Carmyllie, played a major part in the great American Declaration of Independence and, Lord Fraser will argue, Roger Federer would still be herding cattle in the Alps, had it not been for Alexander Shanks from Arbroath. Lord Fraser’s free public talk, to which all are welcome, is part of the RSE@Arbroath programme which was formally launched on Monday 25 February at Angus College. The Arbroath project has developed activities with and for young people, and the wider public, and includes the arts and humanities as well as science and technology based subjects. Classes and workshops have been arranged for both Primary and Secondary school students and a series of both school and public lectures on interdisciplinary topics has also been organised. Notes for Editors About Lord Fraser Peter Fraser represented Arbroath for 8 years in the House of Commons and he is now in the House of Lords. He was Solicitor-General for Scotland, Lord Advocate, Minister of State at the Scottish Office and Minister for Energy.

Former Fellows of The Royal Society of Edinburgh 1783 – 2002 Biographical Index Part One ISBN 0 902 198 84 X Published July 2006 © The Royal Society of Edinburgh 22-26 George Street, Edinburgh, EH2 2PQ BIOGRAPHICAL INDEX OF FORMER FELLOWS OF THE ROYAL SOCIETY OF EDINBURGH 1783 – 2002 PART I A-J C D Waterston and A Macmillan Shearer This is a print-out of the biographical index of over 4000 former Fellows of the Royal Society of Edinburgh as held on the Society’s computer system in October 2005. It lists former Fellows from the foundation of the Society in 1783 to October 2002. Most are deceased Fellows up to and including the list given in the RSE Directory 2003 (Session 2002-3) but some former Fellows who left the Society by resignation or were removed from the roll are still living. HISTORY OF THE PROJECT Information on the Fellowship has been kept by the Society in many ways – unpublished sources include Council and Committee Minutes, Card Indices, and correspondence; published sources such as Transactions, Proceedings, Year Books, Billets, Candidates Lists, etc. All have been examined by the compilers, who have found the Minutes, particularly Committee Minutes, to be of variable quality, and it is to be regretted that the Society’s holdings of published billets and candidates lists are incomplete. The late Professor Neil Campbell prepared from these sources a loose-leaf list of some 1500 Ordinary Fellows elected during the Society’s first hundred years. He listed name and forenames, title where applicable and national honours, profession or discipline, position held, some information on membership of the other societies, dates of birth, election to the Society and death or resignation from the Society and reference to a printed biography.
