Cloud computing is among the most popular words in computing today. As technology foundation, virtualization technology (VT) becomes a re-emerging technology for recently years. It is a decoupling technique that separating system software from hardware platform, while making applications to run pervasively. Many academic institutes and research lab from industries has devoted great research efforts in various aspects. In 2007, Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology initialize a basic research project (973 project) with 6 universities and 2 research institutes on virtualization technology for computing system in many topics, such as architecture design philosophy of virtualization technology, VT design for single computing system, VT design for multiple computing systems, user environment for VT, security, reliability and trust issue related to VT, and performance evaluation and benchmarking for computing system with VT. In this talk, we will give insight for this project. Our experiences on VT research are discussed in detail, including power management, virtual machine live migration, memory/IO virtualization, and desktop virtualization. New technologies make it easier to enter a new market. A good idea can blossom into a successful business in a very short period of time. How to come up with a good business idea, protect it from copycats, and then build around it a great business? We will look into some amazing stories in the last two decades. We will also share our own experience in Imagine Cup Competitions sponsored by Microsoft this year. Good ideas are usually inspired by daily necessities, originated from meeting practical needs. The needs of bookmarking growing websites lead to the creation of Yahoo. PPLive was created by a Chinese student desiring to share soccer videos of 2002 World Cup among classmates. Mark Zuckerberg initially created a rating website just for fun. The website allowed fellow students to choose the "hotter" person from each pair of photos of Harvard students. He expanded the website into a study tool for Art History students to share notes. He launched Thefacebook on February 4, 2004. Facebook evolved into what we know today as the world's most popular social networking website. The protection of business ideas is a much complicated issue. Even the Justices in the Supreme Court of the United States had hard time making their decisions. However, intangible creative business ideas need to be protected in order to encourage creativity, competition and investment. The general trend is to make business methods to be patentable. This trend is illustrated in a number of high profile lawsuits in the United States. Priceline filed lawsuit against Microsoft Expedia

    HOME Augusta Savage Gallery February 1 - March 8, 2018 March 26 - April 30, 2018 Augusta Savage Gallery has recognized the urgent and timely need to consider what Home means to many different people. As a result, we have invited a global array of artists to offer their visual art and accompanying words on this subject to the Five-College community. Represented in this exhibit are artists from Canada, Brazil, Ukraine, Germany, China, Poland, Spain, Turkey, Argentina and the US. Home carries with it many meanings. It can trigger memories or spark anticipation. It sometimes reminds us of painful experiences, or offers some promise of freedom, or evokes terror of a future. For some, Home is connected to a place or moment in time that carries pleasurable memories. For others, it is a place to which, regrettably, they cannot or will not ever return. Some have generational ties to their homes and have witnessed the expulsion and dispersion of entire communities from their places of birth - the rupturing of familial and cultural continuity. Some think of Home in ideological terms, and are shocked and repulsed by politics and values in a nation that once felt safe, but now create tremendous anxiety. Still others have never been privy to the stability of solid ground beneath their feet, a home base, a sense of nationhood, or belonging. We continue to struggle with notions of nationhood, with identities that straddle places and ideologies that keep shifting. We grapple with the redefining of laws we may have taken for granted, and with morale and behaviors that makes us feel “at home” or threatened.

    CHAPTER TWO Miraculous Christianity and Grassroots Practice in the Republican Era Introduction This chapter explores the larger world of Chinese Christianity in which the True Jesus Church existed and argues that the miracle-centered interpretation of Christianity was not peculiar to the True Jesus Church but was in fact present within the mainstream of Christianity in the first half of the twentieth century. This argument further dispels the implication found within what I call the “continuity approach”: the tendency of existing scholarship on the True Jesus Church to argue that the True Jesus Church’s affinity to miraculous modes in the Chinese popular religious tradition historically set it apart from other, supposedly more orthodox, forms of Christianity. The miraculous mode of Christianity was not isolated within the True Jesus Church. During the Republican era, it was a central feature of mainstream Chinese Christianity. This finding reinforces the notion that we must find alternate interpretations for Chinese Christian movements like the True Jesus Church that go beyond continuity with Chinese popular religion and socioeconomic deprivation as ways to explain certain facets of the history of Christianity in China, such as the existence of beliefs and practices like particularistic protection, healing, visions, exorcism, ecstatic worship, and glossolalia. The significance of this miraculous mode of Christianity, widespread throughout Chinese churches during the first half of the twentieth century, lies not just in the way in which Christians appealed to Biblical precedent while simultaneously addressing the native religious environment, but also in the way in which believers’ egalitarian perspective on access to divine power upset traditional ecclesiastical and gender hierarchies.

This thesis adopts Systemic-Functional Grammar as its theoretical framework to conduct a transitivity analysis in American President Donald Trump’s Inaugural Address. The aim of this thesis is to find the political motivation hidden by the form of language. At the same time, this thesis tries to explore the deep social significance via transitivity analysis of the ideational function. In Donald Trump’s Inaugural Address, the material process is the most frequently used process. The relational process and the mental process take the second and the third respectively. In transferring power to the people, material process is strongly involved. In advocating for U.S. interests in international contacts -- America first, relational process top the list of all the six processes. In recovering the audience’s confidence and looking forward to a better future, American President Donald Trump applied different mental processes.

However, high quali- ty and easily accessible Chinese collocation resources are not available for both teachers and students. This paper presents the design and construction of a large scale resource of Chinese collocational knowledge, and a web-based application (OCCA, Online Chinese Collocation Assistant) which offers free and convenient collocation search service to end users. We define and classify collocations based on practical language acquisition needs and utilize a syntax based method to extract nine types of collo- cations. Totally 37 extraction rules are compiled with word, POS and dependency relation features, 1,750,000 collocations are extracted from a corpus for L2 learning and complementary Wikipedia data, and OCCA is implemented based on these extracted collocations. By comparing OCCA with two tradi- tional collocation dictionaries, we find OCCA has higher entry coverage and collocation quantity, and our method achieves quite low error rate at less than 5%. We also discuss how to apply collocational knowledge to grammatical error detection and demonstrate comparable performance to the best results in 2015 NLP-TEA CGED shared task. The preliminary experiment shows that the collocation knowledge is helpful in detecting all the four types of grammatical errors.
