KNOWLEDGE – International Journal Vol.38.6 from BREXIT to MEGXIT - LEAVING BRITAIN in (ROYAL) STYLE
KNOWLEDGE – International Journal Vol.38.6 FROM BREXIT TO MEGXIT - LEAVING BRITAIN IN (ROYAL) STYLE Aleksandra Aleksandrova Konstantin Preslavski University of Shumen, Shumen, Bulgaria, [email protected] Abstract: When a certain expression appears in the media and becomes popular, new expressions copying its sound patterns are formed. This way, the new coinages are associated with the initial expression and acquire something of its meaning. The paper deals with the neologisms based on the name of the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle. These neologisms were formed in relation with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex decision to leave their duties as royalties. The most frequently used such neologism, Megxit is defined by the Macmillan dictionary as “a humorous term for the decision of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to step back from their royal duties” (https://www.macmillandictionary.com/dictionary/british/megxit). In its turn, it produced other neologisms derived from it. The structure of Megxit is based on the pattern of the neologism Brexit (Britain + exit), standing for “the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union” (https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/brexit). It is formed by blending the personal name Meghan and the verb exit. After The new coinage Megxit became relatively well established, it led to other neologisms related to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’ withdrawal from their royal duties. Some of them are derived from Megxit, such as Megxitee, Mexiteer, Megxiter, while other are a combination from the personal name Meghan and another suffix (Megulators, Meghangate). The neologism Megxit appeared as a noun, but later it started being used as a verb. -

Article can be downloaded/cited here: https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/1350506820910194 Abstract Drawing upon lived experiences, this article explores challenges facing feminist academics sharing work in the media, and the gendered, raced intersections of ‘being visible’ in digital cultures which enable direct, public response. We examine online backlash following publication of an article about representations of Meghan Markle’s feminism being co-opted by the patriarchal monarchy. While in it we argued against vilification of Markle, we encountered what we term distortions of research remediation as news outlets reported our work under headlines such as ‘academics accuse Meghan of dropping feminism like a hot potato’. Negative responses were polarised: anti-Meghan (drawing upon racist, anti-feminist, pro-empire, pro-Brexit/Trump rhetoric), and pro-Meghan (both general royal enthusiasts, and a smaller subsection viewing Markle in terms of politicised black uplift). In response, we received accusations of sexist, racist bullying, debate over definitions of feminism, claims feminism has gone ‘too far’, variously worded directives to ‘shut up’, gendered personal insults, and threats of doxxing. This article examines the tenor of public discourse around feminism and visible feminists. It questions the responsibility institutions benefitting from public intellectuals have for the wellbeing of employees in the public eye, particularly in the anti-intellectual socio-political context of Brexit and Donald Trump, where the costs for ‘visible’ women and feminist activism are ever higher. -
ALL the QUEEN's AGENTS & CORPORATIONS the Queen's
ALL THE QUEEN’S AGENTS & CORPORATIONS The Queen’s Prerogative English law prohibits questioning the Monarchy about their personal holdings and business. This is true of most of Europe’s royalty, whether enthroned or not. The wealth of the Monarchies is held outside of the countries that made the wealth. The British Crown’s offshore banks hold the greatest personal wealth in the world estimated at $35 trillion. Perhaps the British Crown still owns and controls its Commonwealth Nations, including the American “colonies.” Monarchies are not supposed to be warlord bankers who create conflict and chaos to turn a profit or destabilize an economy for personal gain. But they have been for some time now, and history is a string of immoral wars caused by monarchies, the Vatican and other religions. Untold millions have died while kings and popes lived on to grab the wealth through well-established institutions that were created to control the people of the Earth. The Commonwealth of Nations, headed by Queen Elizabeth II, is made up of 53 nations, spanning the globe, accounting for one-fifth of the land mass of the Earth, and a very high percentage of its strategic resources and population. The Queen is a Knight of Malta and has vowed allegiance to the Pope through the largest insider trading club on the planet. The British Crown Agents are, in fact, also agents of the Vatican’s Knights of Malta. The Queen is a Knight of Malta The Sovereign Military Order of Malta (SMOM) took control of the power and wealth of the Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon from within the Roman system. -

Royal Bodies in Shakespearean Adaptations on Screen
Royal Bodies in Shakespearean Adaptations on Screen ANNA BLACKWELL De Montfort University MARINA GERZIC The University of Western Australia From Kantorowicz to the Windsors In her controversial essay “Royal Bodies” (2013), Hilary Mantel focuses on the intersection between the monarchy and bodies, and particularly the bodies of royal women. The essay, largely a critique of the current British royal family, argues that the concept of monarchy is constructed in such a way that the public tends to see royals as superior and untouchable, as something to be admired and looked at. Entitled “Royal Bodies in Shakespearean Adaptations on Screen,” this special issue considers the ways Shakespeare and adaptations of his plays on screen engage with the early modern royal body. The special issue seeks to move beyond Mantel’s limited analysis of the appearance of royal bodies by discussing the acts that these royal bodies undertake; political machinations, deception, murder, and conquest; as well as acts of love, heroism, and creation. The special issue also considers the political significance of the royal body in pre/post Brexit-Britain and the construction and consolidation of on-screen royalty through the processes of adaptation and remediation in digital media. The articles collected in this special issue duly build upon Ernst Kantorowicz’s landmark work The King’s Two Bodies, which analyses the political duality that English law 1 attributed to kingship; a duality predicated on the idea that a monarch possessed two bodies, a body natural and a body politic (79). This meant that while the former was mortal, the latter quality was artificial, mystical, eternal, and divine: an embodiment of both the nation and the authority of sovereignty. -
