Overseas Expert Column by David Duggan Not a vintage renewal of this race with many either out of form or long absent horses appearing. EKTIHAAM started favourite for this race last season but it was a disaster as he slipped up in the early stages of the race giving todays jockey Paul Hanagan a nasty fall in the process. Roger Varian will no doubt be hoping for a much better result today but the horse has become quite disappointing of late. The problem with EKTIHAAM is he has become very head strong in his races and thus spoiling his chance by using too much energy, his most recent effort at Chester over 2,000m was really poor although he maybe did not like that very sharp track. On balance he is good and his form says so, but unless he became more retractable he is always going to be a risky proposition. Sir Michael Stoute may hold the key to this race with the somewhat frustrating TELESCOPE however, a horse that has promised much but has disappointed connections twice already this season. TELESCOPE has been runner up on his last two starts over 2,000m and appeared unable to quicken in both. He is much better judged on his really good win in the Great Voltigeur Stakes over 2,400m at York last season when he looked so promising and became a leading Epsom Derby contender. Injury prevented that run but now returning to probably his best distance today, he is worth another chance. Kieren Fallon rides FORGOTTEN VOICE for Nicky Henderson today, he ran a couple of decent races over staying distances in Australia and was runner up over 2,600m to MOUNT ATHOS recently at Newbury. This is a useful horse with good form but could be vulnerable in the latter stages to a horse with a turn of foot. Fallon could have probably ridden SHARESTAN in this for Godolphin, he is a useful type but certainly needs soft ground conditions to be at his best. Of the others PETHER’S MOON is a really tough and consistent horse who has been runner up over this distance on his last two starts including here at Ascot, he always gives his best and should the others underperform, he may be the beneficiary. EYE OF THE STORM is the Aidan O’Brien representative here and whilst tough and genuine seems to lack a turn of foot on all the evidence seen so far. SELECTIONS: TELESCOPE, PETHER’S MOON, EKTIHAAM & FORGOTTEN VOICE DOUBLE TRIO SELECTIONS (40 unit bets): S1-3: Multiple – TELESCOPE, PETHER’S MOON, EKTIHAAM & FORGOTTEN VOICE S1-4: Multiple – ALJAMAAHEER, SLADE POWER, DUE DILIGENCE, GORDON LORD BYRON & MEDICEAN MAN Overseas Expert Column by Wendyll Woods SELECTIONS: PETHER’S MOON, TELESCOPE, EYE OF THE STORM & DANDINO DOUBLE TRIO SELECTIONS (16 unit bets): S1-3: Multiple – PETHER’S MOON, TELESCOPE, EYE OF THE STORM & DANDINO S1-4: Multiple – ALJAMAAHEER, GORDON LORD BYRON, SLADE POWER, & DARWIN -23- GB Racing Post Preview Sir Michael Stoute has been the man to follow when it comes to finding the winner of this Group 2 event and holds the key again with TELESCOPE and HILLSTAR. Preference is for the much-vaunted but often frustrating TELESCOPE, who can supply Stoute with his fifth winner of this race since 2006. This year’s renewal is no more than an average contest and TELESCOPE is one of the few runners with scope for further improvement. The son of Galileo was at his best last term in landing the Great Voltigeur Stakes at York’s Ebor meeting, finding a fine turn of foot to settle race in grand style. A small chip on his near-fore fetlock brought an abrupt end to the colt’s campaign after just three outings, but there could be a silver lining to that setback because TELESCOPE has not been over-raced and should be set for a strong campaign. Perhaps because of his restricted 2013 campaign, the four-year-old has seemed to need both of his two starts this year when beaten twice by Noble Mission at Sandown and Chester on very testing ground. The subsequent Group 1 success of that rival places the form in a better light than it appeared at the time and TELESCOPE should also be more at home on this faster surface. With everything in his favour, he can silence his doubters and show what he is really made of. Stablemate HILLSTAR would be a good alternative for Stoute. Last year’s King Edward VII winner again reinforced his liking for this course and distance by finishing a highly creditable third in the King George. More notable efforts at the top level continued with decent runs in the Juddmonte International and Champion Stakes. This season a step up in trip on very testing ground proved too much for him behind Brown Panther at Chester last time, but he will be happier facing a less taxing trip. Richard Hannon’s PETHER’S MOON is another in with a chance of reaching the frame providing he can improve again at this level. A progressive three-year-old last term, he ended a fine campaign with a Listed win and hopes have been high that he can develop into a Group horse in 2014. Runner-up to Gospel Choir on his Newmarket return, he was again second to subsequent winner Gatewood over course and distance last time. The globetrotting DANDINO was runner-up in this race last year before some fine efforts when second and fifth respectively in the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups, but he faces a stiff task on his seasonal debut. Godolphin’s SHARESTAN won a poor renewal of the Brigadier Gerard and needs to prove his stamina. 1. TELESCOPE 2. Hillstar 3. • 32Red.Com Online Casino to Sponsor the Flat Jockey's
32Red.com Online Casino to Sponsor the Flat Jockey’s Championship Title Submitted by: 32Red Plc Wednesday, 25 March 2009 32Red.com, operators of the Best Casino award-winners 32Red Online Casino, announced today that they are to sponsor the Flat Jockey Championship title in 2009. The most recent in a series of substantial advertising investments in 2009, with this sponsorship following the casino’s first television advert, is in line with CEO Ed Ware’s comments in a trading update earlier in the year that, “We will continue to increase our marketing spend in 2009...” and is consistent with 32Red Plc’s long standing support of horse racing in general, having sponsored the 2008 Group One Cheveley Park Stakes. Ed Ware commented, “32Red is proud of the association between our online casino (http://www.32red.com) and the cream of British racing. Supporting the best in racing fits our casino’s profile as the leading UK casino (http://www.32red.com), following our 6th successive Best Casino (http://www.32red.com/about_us/best-casino.html) award this February.” The Flat Jockey Champion is determined by the total number of both flat and all-weather winning rides by jockeys between the 22nd March and 8th November 2009. Favourites for the 32Red Flat Jockey Championship include the current holder Ryan Moore, who rode 186 winners last year, and Jamie Spencer. At longer odds is Hayley Turner, who rode an impressive 100 winners in 2008 and, if successful, would become the first female champion jockey. However, it is the return of 3 times winner Kieren Fallon that will grab the headlines, despite not returning in time to compete for the title this year.

  • Breeders' Cup Flash Notes
Breeders’ Cup World Championships Friday, October 31 and Saturday, November 1 European Report Thursday, October 30, 2014 Contact Notes Team (626) 254-1352 Aktabantay Declared from Juvenile Turf; Faithful Creek Draws In V. I. Araci’s 2yo Aktabantay has been withdrawn from Friday’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf because of a sore foot. Trainer Hugo Palmer has expressed his deep disappointment at having to make the decision to take him out of the race. “He worked and moved really well this morning and I was growing in confidence about his chances in Friday’s race. Unfortunately, that confidence did not last long as he was found to have a sore foot when he returned back to the barn and I had to make the decision to scratch him.” “He will be absolutely fine and we are now looking forward to the spring and we will be aiming him at the 2,000 Guineas,” Palmer added. The defection of Aktabantay allows Decadent Racing’s Faithful Creek to draw in for trainer Brian Meehan with jockey Kieren Fallon slated to ride. The son of Bushranger has been kept up to his work since his arrival at Santa Anita and has pleased Meehan who has been trackside for the past two days. “We all feel deeply sorry for Hugo Palmer and his team it is all very disappointing when something like this happens,” Meehan said. “We are obviously pleased to be getting a run but not in circumstances like this. Kieren Fallon who will be on board tomorrow got on the horse this morning and said that he gave him a really nice feel and we have the horse in really great shape.” Classic Toast of New York – Jamie Osborne was trackside Thursday morning to see his Breeders’ Cup Classic contender Toast of New York do a routine canter on the main track.

  • Newsletter 2021 Season
Newsletter 2021 Season “Dartmouth” by Grace. THE SHADE OAK NEWSLETTER: 2021 SEASON When Emma announced I was going into ‘Lockdown’ at the end of March I must admit I thought it was a little extreme, as I’m not normally locked away to produce the annual Shade Oak Newsletter until late November. However, I was swiftly made aware that this was a different kind of lockdown that has changed all our lives to a greater or lesser extent. Even when the eagerly- anticipated vaccines and improved treatments are available, its effects on the economy will be significant, as will its impact on the fortunes of horse breeders of all nations. So, much though I would like to pen my usual few words about stallions, mares, foals and the joys of breeding NH horses, before rushing outside to leap on my trusty steed, Sir Francis, to charge across huge hedges and daunting ditches, it just can’t be that easy this year. Instead, I must give whatever insights I can conjure up (sometimes I really don’t know how I do it!) into the implications of several new factors on NH breeding in this country - namely Covid, Brexit and the Great British Bonus. In doing this I will weave an ingenious thread of storyline, so I’m told, that brings them all together such that you will surely recognise not only the wisdom of continuing to produce NH horses but also of using British-based stallions located at - yes, you’re on the ball today - Shade Oak Stud! Here we go… THE EFFECTS OF COVID ON THOROUGHBRED BREEDING: WHY KEEP GOING?
