leukemia 74 D FORWARD Lampang Cancer Hospital is one of the 7 regional cancer hospitals in Thailand. We provide medical services for 12 provinces in the north of Thailand and have duties in all activities of cancer management, including prevention and control, screening and diagnosis, treatment, and supportive and palliative care. The Lampang cancer registry is an important part of infrastructure in cancer services of Lampang cancer hospital. It provides information on cancer burden, including cancer incidence, survival and mortality. Population-based survival reflects a border range of cancer control activities and can be interpreted as the indicator of overall effectiveness of the secondary prevention and treatment of cancer in defined population. There are several statistic indicators such as observed survival and relative survival. Observed survival refers to survival up to point of death from all causes while relative survival measures survival in cancer patients relative to the expected survival of a comparable group in the general population. The Cancer Survival Trends in Lampang, Thailand, 1988-2007 is the twenty first of our cancer registry publications. This publication has presented data mainly in terms of relative survival by sex and periods such as 1988-1992, 1993-1997, 1998-2002 and 2003-2007. Relative survival will be useful for policy makers and health professionals involved in cancer control. We have also included data on observed survival by extent of disease and pathology as this information will be useful for clinicians and patients. In addition, this monograph has incorporated short commentaries from our medical specialists. Finally, we at Lampang Cancer Hospital, along with Cancer Survival Trends in Lampang, Thailand, 1988-2007 Report’s partners, hope that you will find this report to be a valuable reference tool and a stimulus for cancer care and cancer control action.     28 Effects of Self-Regulation Program by Alcohol Drinking Reduction among Elder Person in Soem Sai Sub-district, Soem Ngam District, Lampang Province Nukoon Nusuk Abstract This research is quasi-experimental research carried out to effects of self- regulation program by alcohol drinking reduction among elder person in Soem Sai sub- district, Soem Ngam district, Lampang province. The samples in this study were elder person. The 60 samples were divided into an experimental group and a control group in each group there were 30 samples. The sampling method was simple random sampling. The experimental group participated in a program to reduce alcohol drinking behavior in elder person. The program included activities to reduce alcohol drinking behavior among elder person as fellow: 1) self-observation 2) judgment process 3) self-reaction. The time for joining the program was six times and then compared the average of mean score of self-regulation and alcohol drinking behavior both between and within groups by repeated measures ANOVA. The study found that elder person in experimental group, the difference in average scores of self- regulation and scores of alcohol drinking behavior in before and after involved program was statistically significant at .05 level. In experimental group and control group, the difference in average scores of self- regulation and scores of alcohol drinking behavior in before and after involved program was statistically significant at .05 level as well. Myanmar and Thailand are adjacent countries that together occupy more than the half the area of continental Tropical Asia. This geographic area is diverse ecologically, ranging from cool-temperate to tropical climates, and includes from coast, rainforests and high mountain elevations. An updated checklist of aquatic plants, which includes 78 species in 44 genera from 24 families, are presented based on floristic works. This number includes seven species, that have never been listed in the previous floras and checklists. The species (excluding non-indigenous taxa) were categorized by five geographic groups with the exception of to reflect the rich diversity of the countries' floras. Spatial analysis studies may be helpful in guiding any strategy put in place to respond to the risk of lung cancer mortality in specific areas. The aim of our study was to identify risk patterns for lung cancer mortality within the northern region of Thailand. Methods: In the spatial analysis, the relative risk (RR) was used as a measure of the risk of lung cancer mortality in 81 districts of northern Thailand between 2008 and 2017. The RR was estimated according to the Besag-York-Mollié autoregressive spatial model performed using the OpenBUGS routine in the R statistical software package. We presented the overall and gender specific lung cancer mortality risk patterns of the region using the Quantum Geographic Information System. Results: The overall risk of lung cancer mortality was the highest in the west of northern Thailand, especially in the Hang Dong, Doi Lo, and San Pa Tong districts. For both genders, the risk patterns of lung cancer mortality indicated a high risk in the west of northern Thailand, with females being at a higher risk than males.

    Page 1 of 17 IMPACTS AND EFFECTIVENESS OF LOGGING BANS IN NATURAL FORESTS: THAILAND Sureeratna Lakanavichian INTRODUCTION Thailand has a total land area of 513 115 km 2 and a population of 61.1 million people (1998) with an annual growth rate of 1.1 percent (World Bank 2000). The economy consists of a diverse mix of agriculture, manufacturing and service industries. Rapid urbanization has taken place since the 1980s. The population density is about - 120 persons/km 2 (RFD 1998) and 23 percent of the population live in urban areas. Government estimates indicate that Thailand's forest cover declined from 53.3 percent of the total land area in 1961 to 25 percent in 1999 (Table 48). FAO (1999) estimates place forest cover at only 22.8 percent in 1995. Annual deformation rates have exceeded 3 percent for much of the time since 1961 (FAO 1998) and reached 3.9 percent between 1976 and 1982 (Jantakad and Gilmour 1999). Reforestation did little to stem the trend. A total of only 850.000 to 900.000 ha were planted between 1906 and 1996 (RFD 1998; Green World Foundation 1999). Table 48.
