President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi, the head of Yemen’s internationally recognized government, moved to take advantage of the chaos by ordering an offensive to retake the capital. Saleh, who ruled Yemen with an iron fist for three decades until 2012, had joined forces with the Shiite Houthi rebels three years ago when they took control of large parts of the Arabian Peninsula country including the capital Sanaa. But that alliance unraveled over the last week, with heavy fighting across the capital. His death could mark a major turning point in a conflict that has left thousands dead, led to one of the world’s worst humani- tarian crises and deepened tensions between Middle East rivals Saudi Arabia and Iran. The Saudi-led military coali- tion backing Hadi’s government carried out a wave of air strikes on the capital and warned residents to evacuate areas under rebel control. The Houthi-controlled interior ministry in Sanaa announced Saleh’s death on the rebels’ Al-Masirah televi- sion station. A statement read on the channel announced the “end of the crisis of militias”, referring to Saleh’s armed supporters, and “the killing of their leader and a number of his criminal supporters”. A video provided to AFP by the rebels showed what appeared to be a dead Saleh with a severe head injury, his body wrapped in a floral-print blanket. Polansky Stanton Glantz, PhD CENTER FOR TOBAccO CONTROL RESEARCH AND EDUCATION UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, SAN FRANCISCO SAN FRANCISCO, CA 94143 April 2007 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Smoking among American adults fell by half between 1950 and 2002, yet smoking on U.S. movie screens reached historic heights in 2002, topping levels observed a half century earlier.1 Tobacco’s comeback in movies has serious public health implications, because smoking on screen stimulates adolescents to start smoking,2,3 accounting for an estimated 52% of adolescent smoking initiation. Equally important, researchers have observed a dose-response relationship between teens’ exposure to on-screen smoking and smoking initiation: the greater teens’ exposure to smoking in movies, the more likely they are to start smoking. Conversely, if their exposure to smoking in movies were reduced, proportionately fewer teens would likely start smoking. To track smoking trends at the movies, previous analyses have studied the U.S. motion picture industry’s top-grossing films with the heaviest advertising support, deepest audience penetration, and highest box office earnings.4,5 This report is unique in examining the U.S. movie industry’s total output, and also in identifying smoking movies, tobacco incidents, and tobacco impressions with the companies that produced and/or distributed the films — and with their parent corporations, which claim responsibility for tobacco content choices. Examining Hollywood’s product line-up, before and after the public voted at the box office, sheds light on individual studios’ content decisions and industry-wide production patterns amenable to policy reform.

Sloan5 Abstract Purpose: Over the past several months, the coronavirus has infected more than six million Americans and killed nearly 200,000. Governors have issued stay-at-home orders, and prosecutors have filed criminal charges against individuals for defying those orders. And yet many Americans have still refused to keep their distance from their fellow citizens, even if they had symptoms of infection. The authors explore the underlying causes for those who intend to defy these norms. Methods: Using national-level data from a March 2020 survey of 989 Americans, the authors explore intentions to defy social distancing norms by testing an interactionist theory of foundation-based moral behavior in combination with faith in President Trump during the coronavirus pandemic. The analysis controls for a range of variables, including measures of low self-control and deterrence. Results: Low self-control is the strongest predictor of defiance intentions. Consistent with interactionist theory, defiance intentions are significantly higher for those holding specific faith in Trump and those endorsing binding foundations. Furthermore, the interaction of these two variables is significant and in the predicted direction. The results hold for two different measures of faith in Trump.

(Dated: January 12, 2021) When building a global brand of any kind|a political actor, clothing style, or belief system| developing widespread awareness is a primary goal. Short of knowing any of the stories or products of a brand, being talked about in whatever fashion|raw fame|is, as Oscar Wilde would have it, better than not being talked about at all. Here, we measure, examine, and contrast the day-to-day raw fame dynamics on Twitter for US Presidents and major US Presidential candidates from 2008 to 2020: Barack Obama, John McCain, Mitt Romney, Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump, and Joe Biden. We assign \lexical fame" to be the number and (Zipfian) rank of the (lowercased) mentions made for each individual across all languages. We show that all five political figures have at some point reached extraordinary volume levels of what we define to be \lexical ultrafame": An overall rank of approximately 300 or less which is largely the realm of function words and demarcated by the highly stable rank of `god'.

    QUEEN’S BANNER Issue 14 Fall 2014 MRHS Welcomes Mrs. Reidy Chatting with Cristina When asking our new principal, Mrs. Valerie Reidy how she likes it at Maria Regina so far, she responded: “I LOVE IT, write that down in all caps.” Being the first student to have met Mrs. Reidy and welcome her to our school community, I must say her love for Maria Regina shows tremendously. At first Mrs. Reidy was leary about coming to a small all girls school, from a large co- ed school, but her experience here so far is not what she had ex- pected. The girls at Maria Regina are not typical of what you might think of teenage girls; at MRHS they are caring, friendly, helpful, and spirited. When one walks into the doors of Maria Regina, Mrs. Inside our Reidy says, there is such a wonderful feeling of community and home. This feeling is a fantastic gift.
