Touch the Earth Walking Tour. High Park Nature. Sunday morning casual gatherings offering observations on the various elements of the park. Each walk has a different theme and is led by volunteer scientists, historians, and local naturalists who will help you understand and explore High Park’s many characteristic features.

Python for Data Science - The Why, What & How. WeCloudData. Youtube, Dropbox, Quora, Eventbrite and many other famous Internet companies are built on python. Data scientists and analysts love to use python for data analysis and machine learning, data engineers like to use python for scripting and DevOps, big data experts use python to handle data at scale and build data pipelines, and developers use python to build web applications. WeCloudData invited two experienced data scientists from Kik and the Globe and Mail to share the python use cases from the projects they dealt with in their everyday work.

University of Toronto AstroTour. University of Toronto (U of T). Dept. of Astronomy and Astrophysics. The U of T Astronomy public tour is a monthly event operated by the graduate students of the U of T Astronomy department. The tour features a public lecture by a member of the department on topics ranging from their research to great moments in astronomical history. Following the lecture, tour-goers can peer at the night sky through the department’s balcony and dome telescopes, or watch a planetarium show run live by astronomer. Speaker: William King (Master’s student in Aerospace Engineering at U of T).

Bird Walk. Citizens Concerned About the Future of the Etobicoke Waterfront (CCFEW). CCFEW organizes a series of 8 to 10 bird walks through the year at Toronto waterfront parks. Winter walks are normally held at Humber Bay, while spring and fall walks are at Colonel Sam Smith Park. The walks are led by experienced birders and are free for anyone who is interested in attending. Leader: Ross Harris.

Leslie Street Spit. Toronto Ornithological Club. Look for fall migrants, including warblers and other songbirds, raptors, shorebirds and more on this walk. This walk will take place, rain or shine. It may involve walking on unpaved trails that may be muddy, steep, overgrown and/or uneven. Participants should wear sturdy footwear and clothing, sunscreen and insect repellent appropriate to the weather/season. Bring a snack or lunch and something to drink. Leader: Justin Peter.

Downsview Park. Stewardship - Food in the Park. Get outside during this food focused stewardship program. Go on a stewardship foraging excursion through Downsview Park's naturalized areas and grow and harvest food from the Downsview Park Education Garden. Participants should wear sturdy footwear and clothing. Those who are under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Bring a bag or a container to take food home.

Toursday (Free Tour). Humber Arboretum. Join Humber Arboretum staff for a free guided walk around the grounds of the Arb. Be sure to dress for the weather, including footwear that is fit for exploring. Toursday tours are occasional free Thursday walks led by Arboretum staff and are perfect for anyone who is new to the Arb or who wants a fresh perspective on a well-loved place.

Wild Bee Club. High Park Nature Centre The Wild Bee Monitoring Club will be devoted to monitoring native bees as citizen scientists for 1.5 hours per session with host Susan Frye, a PhD candidate from the University of Toronto. The club aims to explore native bees, their role in pollination and how habitats support native bees in the OURSpace learning garden and other areas of High Park, observing them as they emerge, create new nests, and interact with flowering plants in the vicinity.

Tommy Thompson Park Bird Walks. Toronto and Region Conservation Join Tommy Thompson Park birding experts to discover Toronto’s globally significant important bird area. The park is an amazing spot for bird watching: 316 recorded species, including at least 55 breeding ones. The park is an important stopover during migration for many bird species that need to rest and refuel to continue their journey. Walks are typically 2 hours long, come dressed in weather appropriate clothing.

Public Viewing. Allan I. Carswell Observatory York University The observatory welcomes public interest and highly promotes the field of astronomy to those who are interested. The public viewing program runs all year round and is popular with the local and visiting communities. On public viewing nights, visitors are able to observe selected celestial objects in the presence of friendly staff, in addition to engaging in various on-hand presentations. The observatory is open regardless of weather conditions, even though viewing through the telescope is limited to clear skies. If it is cloudy, drop in for a slide show and a tour featuring both of our telescopes.
