Write your name on most – if not all – of your tools. Working areas are quite spread out and there is a tendency of leaving tools lying around. Names make it very useful for everyone to keep track!

Center Punch $8 Any will do. It is nice to HIC, AS have a spring-loaded/self- actuating one, makes things just a bit quicker/easier.

Chisel $10 For chiseling plaster out of a HIC, AS socket. Could alternatively use and old (beat-up) screwdriver. Set not necessary.

Countersink - $6-40 Get a good one (so not the HIC, AS 82 $6 kind). You'll be using it on plastics, fiberglass/resin, aluminum, steel, stainless steel, etc. (FYI: 82 deg is the standard angle, so unless otherwise stated, it's likely 82 deg.) Bit Set – $20-50 Cheap set will do, but a HIC, AS 1/16” to 3/8” quality set will pay for itself in speed and control. Will go on sale often.

Drill - $150 An 18V is sufficient for the HIC, AS Cordless light work that'll be done. You could also buy used to save you money

Metal – $12 Needed for finishing metal, HIC, AS Small, Fine, bondo, and hard foams. Flat and/or Usually comes as part of a Round set. Inexpensive is fine. About 3/4" wide, should have "fine" stamped on it near the handle or tang. Grease Pencils $10 AKA China Markers, in the CS marker/pen section at Staples. White is preferred over coloured, it stains the plastic less.

Hacksaw $15 Any full HIC, AS frame will do. It's down to personal preference and budget Hacksaw $5 If your didn't come with HIC, AS – Metal extra blades, get a decent 5/pk (18t) bimetal 18 tooth. You will be through aluminium, steel, and stainless steel and this blade will handle cutting them.

Hammer, Ball $20 Any will do. It's mostly for HIC, AS Pein – 16oz doming copper rivets, but you will likely bash a few other things as well. Hammer, Ball $12 Any will do. It's mostly for HIC, AS Pein – 8oz flattening speedy rivets, but you will likely wack a few other things too.

Indelible $1+ These are a watercolour CS, HS Pencils kind of pencil. Some craft stores carry them. Lee Valley tools carries the purple and red Veritas pencils. May receive one during orientation. Level - $25 Any brand will do. Avoid HIC, AS Torpedo entirely plastic frames if you can afford to, cast aluminium is the most popular. A magnetic side is helpful for storage and keeping track of tiny parts. Pins - Sewing $2 Any pack will do. CS, DS

Plasticine $4 Get a big block if you can. CS Dollar stores carry it sometimes, craft stores usually do as well. Coloured may bleed into your project.

Plumb Bob & $20 Useful for prosthetic bench HIC, AS String alignments. Alternatives include making your own with a string and weight, using a laser level, or using a long L- available in lab.

Ruler – 15” $5 Ensure it has both Metric HIC, AS and Imperial. If you can find one that has the zero on the ruler end, get it if it’s in your budget. Flex steel is recommended. $6-8 Best finish is achieved by HIC, AS working your way up grits. Have grits around 80, 150, 250, 400 and if you're feeling ambitious, 600 or higher. Sanding $4 Anything 80 to 180 grit will HIC, AS Screen - do. Do not use new, crumple Drywall it up in water to get rid of most of the grit. Screwdrivers $15-45 You will use these all the HIC, AS time. At minimum you will need a #2 (red) Robertson (square), a #1 (green) Robertson, a #0 (yellow) Robertson, a #2 Philips (+), a #1 Philips, a large slot, a medium slot and a small slot. A majority of these come in most pre-packaged sets. Should be of decent quality, cheap ones don't last. A "stubby" set of the same will also come in handy.

Side Cutters $60 Get a good pair, will need to HIC, AS cut “speedy” and copper

rivets. Springy handles are helpful. (pk) $10 An inexpensive set will HIC, AS provide the necessary array of scissors. A cheap pair for cutting fibreglass (this will wreck any pair), little ones for thread, medium for other fabrics etc. Square with $15 Recommended. It's a 3 in 1 HIC, AS Level , other than a square you can use the level and ruler separately.

Stitch/Seram $2-6 Needed to make removing CS Ripper sewing errors quicker and easier, and you will be making a lot of sewing errors. Tape – Duct 2” $6 You will use a couple of HIC, AS rolls of this stuff each year. Better quality works nicer

Tape - $6 Buy in bulk, you will use HIC, AS Electrical plenty. Inexpensive is fine.

Tape – $6 Any brand will do. Comes Departme Hockey, Clear in handy for covering nt store exposed rivets and seams.

Tape – $4 Regular or Green. Just don't HIC, AS Masking 1-2” stick it to leather or naugahyde, it leaves marks and a residue.

Tool Box – $40- Whatever will fit your tools HIC, AS Max 39cm Tall 100 and your budget will do. Keep an eye out for sales. Must be 39cm or shorter to fit under workstation. Drawers are recommended. Utility $12 Any brand will do. Single HIC, AS double-ended or snap-off work well.

Utility Knife $4 Any brand that fits your HIC, AS Blades knife will do. You will go through a lot of them.

Vice Grip – $26 Just gives you a better grip HIC, AS Needle Nose on small or metal items. The longer nose keeps your hands farther away from hot and surfaces and gives you more reach into smaller cavities.

REQUIRED – Can easily buy from P&O/Gord or the Weber Safety representative (will generally be in contact near the end of summer/during orientation) Description Picture Price Notes & Tips Alternate Suppliers Dust Masks – $17 Box of 20. These must be HIC, AS 8210 N95 (Weber) fitted and certified like a respirator. An N95 rating is required.

Gloves – $20 You will be handling HS Thermal (PO) plastic at over 250C! Fabric ONLY! Welder's gloves will leave stuff in the plastic. Hearing $16 Choose protection type HIC, AS Protection – muffs, based on preference. Any Ear Muffs OR $4 plugs rated for 26db or better Plugs (Weber) will do.

Shop Apron $8 Alternatively, lab coats HS, HIC, (Weber) can be worn (can be Departme ordered through Weber for nt store $35). Regardless if wearing one or not, avoid wearing nice clothes to lab, as they tend to get stained. Leather Hole- $35-84 Buy the best only. The Tandy Punch - Multi (PO) cheap ones may not make Leather it past your first project and definitely not your third, neither may a $40.00 pair. The expensive ones may make it through college. Buying a punch set or individual punches may be a better choice. Suggested: pool resources and share a punch with a couple other classmates. Respirator $15 3M and Northern are the HIC, AS + popular ones. A fitting test $25cash and certificate are needed. for fit You can have the test done testing at Paramed or in class. In (Weber) class by the Weber sales rep is very convenient. Respirator $13-30 3M and Northern are the HIC, PO Organics Filter (Weber) popular ones. Get the kind that fit your respirator, they have differing fittings. One set will likely get you through college. A particulate prefilter is a handy option, but not necessary. Safety Glasses $3 Choose based on HIC, AS OR Goggles glasses, preference. Any CSA $9 marked ones will do. They goggles will get scratched or you (Weber) might lose/break them, so you might need more than one.

Surform ½ $6 (PO) Indispensable for shaping AS Round Blade plaster and foam. Quality counts, blued ones tend to be better than "gold" coloured ones. Get a pair and keep them clean. Vinyl/Nitrile $6 Any brand will do. Avoid HIC, DS Gloves (Weber) latex, hospitals are latex- free due to allergies. Depending on how messy you are, you may go through 2 or 3 boxes a year.

Tap – Size $6 Recommended to get more HIC, AS #10-32 than one as they snap

Vaseline/White $1+ Leftovers from previous DS, Dollar Petroleum years are scattered around store Jelly the lab. If buying, the cheapest you can find will do.

OPTIONAL – Recommended tools. Having these will be helpful for various projects. Buy depending on need and personal preference. You will be chaining your tool box to the table leg. Bondo – Body $25 The school provides HIC, AS FIller Bondo. Having your own can be helpful if stocks run low.

Wire Brush $5 Recommended. Your files HIC, AS will get clogged. One of these cleans them quickly. Deburring $12 Any will do. Pivoting is AS Tool nice. Mostly for cleaning- up plastic edges.

Round $12 Helpful when shaping PO, HIC, Surform tight corners. AS

Small File Kit $7 Recommended. Kit of HIC, AS small extra small files for fine detail work.

Funnels – N/A Bring empty water and N/A Water Bottle pop bottles to school if tops you have any.

Glue Brush 1+ You can use the schools DS, Dollar for everything, but little store ones are good for small items.

Punch Set $20 Helpful in punching out HIC, AS stubborn rivets.

Lighter $2 Recommended. Any will DS, Dollar do. Just about every store sewing project will benefit from a little torching of frayed material or threads.

Needle Nose $20+ Recommended. Any will HIC, AS Pliers do. Will occasionally come in handy. Usually comes in a set. You can find cheap ones at some

dollar stores Rubber $12 A non-marring white HIC, AS - White rubber is best (less clean- up) but any will do.

Spring Clamps $10 A set of these will come in HIC, AS very handy as extra hands and as weights for many of your first and second year projects. Any brand will do, even dollar store stuff. Spade Bit – $10 Needed for projects. Some HIC, AS ¾”, 1” available to share in class.

Wrench - $23 Any will do. Get two of HIC, AS Adjustable any size for counter turning. Infrequently used but come in really handy.

Yates Clamps $2 Recommended. Useful to HIC, PO projects in place or close off a PVA bag

Ziploc Bags $10 Handy in keeping project DS pieces and componentry together/safe.

Tensor $7 Good to have during DS Bandage thermo foam/plastazote .

Rotary Tool $70 Recommended. Any will HIC, AS do. If you are inclined to use one, know how it works before you try it on a project. You can make it through college without one. Rotary Tool $100 Recommended. Any will HIC, AS Bit Kit do. The larger the variety

the greater the options. Shears – for $60-80 Recommended. Get a Tandy Leather (PO) good pair. They should be Leather, cast metal, not made from PO, HA flat stock. Flat stock will torque open while cutting thick materials. Vernier $8-45 Digital recommended.
