Commander Submarine Group 10 spoke at the Camden County High School Junior Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps Pass-n-Review, March 9. The Pass-n-Review is an ancient military tradition dating to the time of Alexander the Great. Alexander would inspect his soldiers as they paraded past. Pass-n-Review is now part of many military ceremonies, especially graduations from military academies and boot camps, where troops are paraded for family and military guests. Rear Adm. Barry Bruner, Commander, Submarine Group 10 and guest speaker for the event, stressed the impor- tance of senior leadership at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay supporting the young leadersof tomorrow. “It’s such an honor to be here, and I am truly impressed by how the Rear Adm. Camden County High School NJROTC cadets carry them- Barry Bruner, selves. They are truly a great group of future American lead- Commander, ers,” Bruner said. From preceding page ning and throwing movements that require great skill. “They looked so good it watered my eyes,” said Robert Chapman, Command Master Chief, USN (Ret.) and Naval Science instructor at Camden County High School. “The cadets have been working on this since school started. It takes a lot of practice and effort. You just don’t walk in knowing how to do this.” The NJROTC program was established by Congress in 1964 to be in high schools across the nation. The program teaches students, referred to as Cadets, self-discipline, self-confidence and oth- ers skills useful not only in the Navy, but also college and the job market. The curriculum is meant to develop leadership skills, while also teaching about sea power, navy ships and naval history. Cadets not only study in the classroom, but also participate in The Pass-n-Review dates back to Alexander the Great. a variety of other activities such as sea cruises, track meets and drill meets. The goal of the program is to build physically fit, confident leaders, who identify with ideals of honor, courage, and commitment. The CCHS unit has seven seniors going on to continue their education in college and two who will be serving in the Army. “It renews our faith in our country to see young people participate in this type of activity, and who are proud to be Americans,” said special guest Keith Post, President Camden-Kings Bay Navy League. “It was an outstanding pass in review.” “It felt good to participate in the Pass-n-Review,” said Seaman 2nd Aliyah Harris, a freshmen in the NJROTC program. “I was surprised to see Admiral Bruner here, it was such an honorable thing for him to The armed drill team performed before the audience and corps members. take time to attend.” .
