First, it conducts a survey of past and present Northern Sea Route (NSR) cargo flows. Then follow discussions of the route’s commercial potential as a transit route, as well as of its economic importance and relevance for each of the Russian Arctic regions. These discussions are summarized by estimates of what types and volumes of NSR cargoes that can realistically be expected in the period 2000-2015. This is then followed by a survey of the status quo of the NSR infrastructure (above all the ice-breakers, ice-class cargo vessels and ports), with estimates of its future capacity. Based on the estimated future NSR cargo potential, future NSR infrastructure requirements are calculated and compared with the estimated capacity in order to identify the main, future infrastructure bottlenecks for NSR operations. The information presented in the report is mainly compiled from data and research results that were published through the International Northern Sea Route Programme (INSROP) 1993-99, but considerable updates have been made using recent information, statistics and analyses from various sources. -

Over a decade (2003-2015) of satellite data of sea-ice extent, sea surface temperature (SST), and methane 11 (CH4) concentrations in lower troposphere over 10 focus areas within the Barents and Kara Seas (BKS) were 12 analyzed for anomalies and trends relative to the Barents Sea. Large positive CH4 anomalies were discovered around 13 Franz Josef Land (FJL) and offshore west Novaya Zemlya in early fall. Far smaller CH4 enhancement was found 14 around Svalbard, downstream and north of known seabed seepage. SST increased in all focus areas at rates from 15 0.0018 to 0.15 °C yr-1, CH4 growth spanned 3.06 to 3.49 ppb yr-1. 16 The strongest SST increase was observed each year in the southeast Barents Sea in June due to strengthening of 17 the warm Murman Current (MC), and in the south Kara Sea in September. The southeast Barents Sea, the south 18 Kara Sea and coastal areas around FJL exhibited the strongest CH4 growth over the observation period. -

ABSTRACT Title of Dissertation: ENGINEERING CONSENT: PEENEMUENDE, NATIONAL SOCIALISM, AND THE V-2 MISSILE, 1924-1945 Michael Brian Petersen, Doctor of Philosophy, 2005 Dissertation Directed By: Professor Jeffrey Herf Departmen t of History This dissertation is the story of the German scientists and engineers who developed, tested, and produced the V-2 missile, the world’s first liquid -fueled ballistic missile. It examines the social, political, and cultural roots of the prog ram in the Weimar Republic, the professional world of the Peenemünde missile base, and the results of the specialists’ decision to use concentration camp slave labor to produce the missile. Previous studies of this subject have been the domain of either of sensationalistic journalists or the unabashed admirers of the German missile pioneers. Only rarely have historians ventured into this area of inquiry, fruitfully examining the history of the German missile program from the top down while noting its admi nistrative battles and technical development. However, this work has been done at the expense of a detailed examination of the mid and lower -level employees who formed the backbone of the research and production effort. This work addresses that shortcomi ng by investigating the daily lives of these employees and the social, cultural, and political environment in which they existed. It focuses on the key questions of dedication, motivation, and criminality in the Nazi regime by asking “How did Nazi authori ties in charge of the missile program enlist the support of their employees in their effort?” “How did their work translate into political consent for the regime?” “How did these employees come to view slave labor as a viable option for completing their work?” This study is informed by traditions in European intellectual and social history while borrowing from different methods of sociology and anthropology. -

Dzhansugurova Institute of General Genetics and Cytology CS MES RK, Almaty, Kazakhstan Abstract The analysis of micronucleus frequency in fish caught in the Kazakhstan part of the Caspian region in the territories of Mangistau and Atyrau regions was carried out. We determined the component composition of sediment samples in the field of fish catch. Fish from carp family was subjected by micronucleus analysis. The nature of violations indicates that in some places, anthropogenic pressure has chemical and radiological component. It noted the correspondence between the cytological and cytogenetic abnormalities in fish erythrocytes and the results of content of man-made pollutants in samples of sediments taken in the trapping field of test animals. INTRODUCTION The complex interaction of mutagenic environmental factors differ in multilevel (environment, body, tissue, cell) and multi-directional characteristics. Since the experimental study of all possible options for assessing the potential mutagenicity of complex mixtures and combined mutagenic effects is not real, it is necessary to estimate the total mutagenicity in the habitat of living organisms. One approach to solving the complex problems of the organization and carrying out of genetic monitoring of environmental pollution is to conduct research in the field of environmentally contaminated regions. One of the modern and the most promising environmental assessment of the quality of the environment is bio indication methods. -

Global average temperature in 2018 was by 0,99 °C above the preindustrial level (1850-1900). New record values of the heat content in the upper layers of the ocean, as well as the continued increase in global mean sea level, have been established. A decrease in the extent of the Arctic and Antarctic sea ice was noted. In 2018, 74 tropical cyclones were registered, which significantly exceeds their long-term average number (63). Floods, extreme rainfall and extratropical storms have caused hundreds of human lives and the destruction of tens of thousands of homes. -
