Long Beach State earned a 2003-2005 Assistant Coach - California No. 4 national ranking that season--matching the team’s final ranking in 2001 as the highest in program history. 2005 Assistant Coach - U.S. Men’s National Team In 2012 Arroyo led the 49ers to a 24-8 regular season finish as well as a 4-4 finish in conference play. The historic year led LBSU to its first 2004-2005 Head Coach - Olympic Club of San Francisco appearance in the MPSF Tournament since 2008 and ended with a fifth- place finish. Arroyo was also awarded with his second MPSF Coach of the Year award for his efforts. GAVIN ARROYO AS HEAD COACH In 2007, Arroyo was selected as the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Season Honors Record (MPSF) co-Coach of the Year after leading Long Beach State to a 17-15 2006 11-17 record. During the 2007 season the 49ers upset No. 2 Stanford (7-5) in 2007 MPSF Co-Coach of the Year 17-15 an MPSF home match and won the Inland Empire Tournament. 2008 14-18 In his first season in 2006, the 49ers were 11-17 overall and tied for 2009 9-12 sixth place in the MPSF, picking up two victories over rival UC Irvine. 2010 7-15 Arroyo is a two-time member of the U.S. Men’s Olympic Water Polo 2011 16-10 team (1996, 2000) and spent two years as an assistant coach at California. 2012 MPSF Coach of the Year 24-8 In 2005, he served as an assistant coach for the U.S. Men’s Senior 2013 20-14 National Team planning training schedules, aiding in game preparation, 2014 MPSF Coach of the Year 22-7 organizing fundraising events, and being responsible for fundamentals, 2015 12-17 tactic implementation and conditioning. 2016 16-9 In 2017, Arroyo served as the head coach of the USA Water Polo 2017 15-12 Men’s Junior National Team at the FINA Junior World Championships Totals 183-154 in Serbia, leading the Americans to an 8th place finish. The next year, Arroyo served as an assistant coach for the Men’s Senior National Team, working with head coach Dejan Udovicic. Arroyo started the Long Beach Water Polo Club catering to youth water polo players, both boys and girls, on May 1, 2010. He has also served as the head coach for the Olympic Club of San Francisco men’s team (2004-05) for two years. A 1994 graduate of UC Berkeley with a degree in political science, Arroyo was a first-team All-American at Cal in 1993. He was a part of three NCAA Championship squads at Berkeley (1990, 1991, 1992). Arroyo competed on the U.S. National Team for eight years (1993- 2000) helping lead the U.S. squad to numerous championships. The U.S. men’s team won the World Championships in 1994 and 1998, the 1997 FINA Cup and the 1995 and 1999 . He also competed on the U.S. men’s team at the 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games. Arroyo competed for seven years overseas playing professional water

3 ASSISTANT COACHES LIZ GRIMES | ADMINSTRATION OPERATIONS Liz Grimes is in her ninth season at Long Beach State, serving as an assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s programs, and now in her second year as the administrative operations assistant for the men’s program. Grimes, a 1990 graduate of Long Beach State, returned to her alma mater after 20 successful years in the sports industry. While at LBSU, Grimes was a member of the women’s swim team and president of the women’s water polo club. She was also a member of the USA Women’s National Team. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies, Grimes went on to earn her master’s degree in sport management from the United States Sports Academy in 2004. She returned to Long Beach State after working with USA Water Polo as the associate director of sport development. Grimes also worked as a water polo commentator at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and assistant men’s and women’s water polo coach at Harvard University. There she helped guide the women’s team to its highest Eastern Championship finish in 10 years. Prior to working with USA Water Polo, Grimes worked in public relations for Major League Baseball and credentialed for the World Baseball Classic. SALE PETROVIC | ASSISTANT COACH Sale Petrovic is in his fourth season at Long Beach State. Petrovic played four seasons for the 49ers from 2008 to 2011, scoring 140 goals in those four seasons, 13th most in school history. Over his career, Petrovic earned two honorable mention All- MPSF selections, one in 2009 and one as a senior in 2011. The Serbian native came to the United States as a freshman and scored 22 goals in his first season. As a sophomore, Petrovic led the team in scoring, putting away 35 goals in his second season with the 49ers. After scoring 30 goals as a junior, Petrovic once more led the 49ers in goals, scoring 53 goals, one of the Top 20 goal scoring seasons in school history. Following his collegiate playing career, Petrovic has moved into coaching with various clubs, and will work as the lead assistant with the Men’s program under Arroyo at Long Beach State.

DARIN BLIZZARD | VOLUNTEER COACH Darin Blizzard is in his sixth year as a volunteer assistant coach for the 49er water polo program. The former 49er player lettered at LBSU from 1986-1989. Blizzard played for the USA National Team from 1993 to 1994 and was a member of the USA FINA Cup team in 1994. He also played with the USA National “B” Team in 1989, 1990, and 1991 before playing in Marseille, France in 1993. Blizzard finished his career at Long Beach State as the fifth-leading all-time scorer in 1989. He competed for the 49er swim team from 1988-91 as well, and placed second in the Big West in the 50 Free in 1990. Blizzard has worked as a city of Long Beach Police officer for over 15 years. He and his wife, Sabrina, have two children, Alex and Jack.

DIMITRIOS LAPPAS | GRADUATE ASSISTANT Dimitrios Lappas joined the Beach as a Graduate Assistant coach for the 2017 season. Lappas returns to the Beach after being an assistant coach at Long Beach Poly and at SHORE Aquatics. Lappas was a four-year starter for the Beach from 2012-2015.He is a two-time ACWPC All- American. During his time with the Beach he scored 114 goals. He scored a career-high 34 goals his junior year and scored more than 20 goals throughout his career.
