DISC Meet Avengers (2012) DISC Meet Avengers (2012) NICK FURY Director Fury presents a “D” style personality. He constantly adapts to bureaucratic pressures, alien invasions, and a strong-willed team by maintaining a dominant and direct leadership style. His focus on results is a little unorthodox, but it solves problems and meets the bottom line: saving the world. World Security Council: This is out of line, Director. You're dealing with forces you can't control. Nick Fury: You ever been in a war, Councilman? In a firefight? Did you feel an over-abundance of control? World Security Council: You're saying that this Asgard has declared war on our planet? Nick Fury: Not Asgard, Loki! World Security Council: He can't be working alone. What about the other one, his brother? Nick Fury: Our intelligence says, Thor is not a hostile. But he's worlds away, we can't depend on him to help either. It's up to us. World Security Council: Which is why you should be focusing on Phase 2, it was designed for exactly... Nick Fury: Phase 2 isn't ready, our enemy is. We need a response team. IRON MAN Tony Stark is a mischievous, snarky, fun loving character who demonstrates an “I” style. He constantly tries to rile his friends up with his strong wit, but also knows how to capitalize on key moments to inspire the avengers to action. His key foci are on having fun, soaking up the limelight and coming in strong during exciting/desperate times. His interactions are humorous, and people-oriented. Tony Stark: Yeah, takes us a while to get any traction, I'll give you that one. But let's do a head count here: your brother the demi-god; a super soldier, a living legend who kind of lives up to the legend; a man with breath-taking anger management issues; a couple of master assassins, and YOU, big fella, you've managed to piss off every single one of them. Loki: That was the plan. Tony Stark: Not a great plan. When they come, and they WILL, they'll come for you. Loki: I have an army. Tony Stark: We have a Hulk. Tony: “Alright. Hey. Alright. Good job, guys. Let's just not come in tomorrow. Let's just take a day. Have you ever tried shawarma? There's a shawarma joint about two blocks from here. I don't know what it is, but I wanna try it.” CAPTAIN AMERICA While he probably has a blended DISC style, Steve Rogers does possess a strong “S” personality. The Cap’ns strongest skills are in supporting the Avengers as a team and being the steady presence that helps knit them more strongly together. While he occasionally butts heads with Tony, he primarily works to maintain peace and harmony with the team. He uses his people-oriented leadership style in tough situations, relying on the trust he has built and the knowledge of his team-mates to an advantage in battle Captain America: Alright, listen up. Until we can close that portal, our priority's containment. Barton, I want you on that roof, eyes on everything. Call out patterns and strays. Stark, you got the perimeter. Anything gets more than three blocks out, you turn it back or you turn it to ash. Hawkeye: [to Iron Man] Want to give me a lift? Iron Man: Right. Better clench up, Legolas. [Iron Man takes Hawkeye up to the roof] Captain America: Thor, you gotta try and bottleneck that portal. Slow 'em down. You got the lightning. Light the bastards up. [Thor swings his hammer and flies off and Captain America turns to Black Widow] Captain America: You and me, we stay here on the ground, keep the fighting here. And Hulk? [the Hulk turns and glares at Cap] Captain America: Smash! [Hulk grins and leaps away] LOKI Yes, even super villains have personality styles. Loki exhibits a “C” type. He is reserved, and focuses his energies on his constant behind-the-scenes quest for power. He is cunning and cautious, always having elaborate plans and back-ups for when those plans fail. He manipulates the heroes’ focus on facts, rules, and correctness, taking it to an extreme in his ideals and relying on their goodwill to aid in his own survival. Loki: [as Fury tries to leave with the Tesseract ] Please don't. I still need that. Nick Fury: This doesn't have to get any messier. Loki: Of course it does. I've come too far anything else. I am Loki, of Asgard and I am burdened with glorious purpose. Selvig: Loki, brother of Thor. Nick Fury: We have no quarrel with your people. Loki: An ant has no quarrel with a boot. Nick Fury: Are you planning to step on us? Loki: I come with glad tidings of a world made free. Nick Fury: Free from what? Loki: Freedom. Freedom is life's great lie. Once you accept that, in your heart... [walks up to Eric Selvig and touches him with the scepter] Loki: ...you will know peace. Your Turn What DISC Types are some of the other Avengers? .

  • Put on the Mask
Alternate Scripts - Superheroes PUT ON THE MASK An Alternate Script for The Play's The Thing By Brian Engard For more information about The Play's The Thing and Magpie Games, visit us at www.magpiegames.com/theplay Alternate Scripts - Superheroes Biff! Bam! Pow! We all know what superheroes are. They can do things no normal person can, stand against forces the rest of us can't hope to combat, represent the ideals of our society -- even if they're ideals we've forgotten ourselves -- and they act as a beacon and an example for the rest of us. Superheroes also get into great, exciting fights and wear colorful Spandex uniforms. For all the dizzying number of superheroes (and villains!) out there, they're each subtly different from one another, each driven by his or her own motivations and background. Oh sure, eye lasers and the ability to fly are flashy and exciting and cool, but it's the human drama, the relationships and mortal struggles of these sometimes godlike beings that grounds them, makes them relatable, and makes us keep watching them. Sometimes superhero drama comes from the hero's need to see justice -- or vengeance -- done. Sometimes it's a need to protect that which the hero holds dear. Sometimes it's the struggle that comes with suddenly being thrust into a mantle of great power, and the enormous responsibility that comes with it. The only difference between a superhero and a supervillain is how the individual character reacts to these motives, how far she or he is willing to go to see justice -- or vengeance -- done, what lengths the character is willing to go to to protect something, or how the hero -- or villain -- handles that mantle of power and responsibility.

  • Loki Production Brief
PRODUCTION BRIEF “I am Loki, and I am burdened with glorious purpose.” —Loki arvel Studios’ “Loki,” an original live-action series created exclusively for Disney+, features the mercurial God of Mischief as he steps out of his brother’s shadow. The series, described as a crime-thriller meets epic-adventure, takes place after the events Mof “Avengers: Endgame.” “‘Loki’ is intriguingly different with a bold creative swing,” says Kevin Feige, President, Marvel Studios and Chief Creative Officer, Marvel. “This series breaks new ground for the Marvel Cinematic Universe before it, and lays the groundwork for things to come.” The starting point of the series is the moment in “Avengers: Endgame” when the 2012 Loki takes the Tesseract—from there Loki lands in the hands of the Time Variance Authority (TVA), which is outside of the timeline, concurrent to the current day Marvel Cinematic Universe. In his cross-timeline journey, Loki finds himself a fish out of water as he tries to navigate—and manipulate—his way through the bureaucratic nightmare that is the Time Variance Authority and its by-the-numbers mentality. This is Loki as you have never seen him. Stripped of his self- proclaimed majesty but with his ego still intact, Loki faces consequences he never thought could happen to such a supreme being as himself. In that, there is a lot of humor as he is taken down a few pegs and struggles to find his footing in the unforgiving bureaucracy of the Time Variance Authority. As the series progresses, we see different sides of Loki as he is drawn into helping to solve a serious crime with an agent 1 of the TVA, Mobius, who needs his “unique Loki perspective” to locate the culprits and mend the timeline.

The world was full of threats, and the Phase Two Defense Initiative required all his attention. Instead, he was stepping off a helicopter in the New Mexico desert, 002 with his right-hand agent, Maria Hill, right behind him. Another of his trusted agents, Phil Coulson, met them on the landing pad. The massive S.H.I.E.L.D. research base loomed around them. It was a hive of activity, with low-level alarms sounding and an automated voice echoing over loudspeakers: “All personnel, evacuation order has been confirmed. This is not a drill.” “How bad is it?” Fury asked, raising his voice over the beating rotors of the helicopter. “That’s the problem, sir,” Coulson said. “We don’t know.” He got them up to speed as they rode the elevator down into the subterranean lab complex where S.H.I.E.L.D.

  • Formal Analysis
An analysis of the events before the Avengers film I chose to analyze the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline. The timeline was released by Marvel themselves for the book “Avengers: The Art of Marvel’s THE AVENGER’S.” It was created for the purpose of putting all the events of Marvel’s superhero film franchises in one chronologically organized place. Marvel is a company mainly associated with comic books, but has recently gotten into making movies about their superhero characters. This timeline is useful for people familiar and unfamiliar with the films. For anyone wanting to watch the Avengers, they can use Marvel’s timeline to learn all the important information they need. For those who have seen all the movies, they are now able to view all the events from the different films into a unified timeline. Formal Analysis The main black time bar of the Avengers Timeline serves as the reference point for all events. The time bar itself is actually broken up into individual identical rectangles representing a specific amount of time or a specific date. One might notice that the individual rectangles act like panels in a comic book. They signify titles for a specific amount of time with in the Avengers timeline. There are some individual rectangles with red font instead of white. These rectangles are specific reference points for the other rectangles. Each event is then linked to an individual rectangle via a simple line. The lines are consistent all the way through: sharp and at strictly vertical or horizontal. Combined with the black and white color combination, this makes for a very straight-forward timeline.
