From Henry IV Parts I & II, which toured the UK, to The Two Gentlemen of Verona and Love’s Labour’s Lost and Won, we have brought our ‘THE CONTINUED audiences productions of extraordinary quality. They were broadcast live to cinemas across the world and free to classrooms around the country. More than 250,000 people saw the productions. Oppenheimer, by Tom Morton-Smith and directed by Angus Jackson, was one of several new plays commissioned and produced by us. It headed direct from our Stratford-upon-Avon home to London's West End for a celebrated run. Love’s Labour’s Lost, Love’s Labour’s Won and a new play by Phil Porter, The Christmas Truce, marked the centenary of the First World War. The central character of The Christmas Truce, Bruce Bairnsfather, was celebrated in our free exhibition, seen by 32,000 people, which explored the life and work of this great British cartoonist. This intimate and special production included sensory games to bring the story to life for young people and their families, and was performed in Stratford-upon- Avon and in Columbus, Ohio. This year 28,000 students from more than 300 schools participated in their first live Shakespeare experience through our four Schools’ Broadcasts. We worked with 100 amateur theatre companies in a unique and inspirational exchange of skills and creativity. Approximately 2,500 amateur theatre makers were involved alongside our seven partner theatres to create over 91 productions performed in locations ranging from village halls to pubs, woods and graveyards. Over 60,000 people saw the shows. They picked up nominations for six Olivier Awards and eight Tony Awards on their travels.
