It is a major logistical exercise to ensure our pupils arrive safely and promptly at their destinations. The school bus service is an essential part of our transport infrastructure and is used by over 700 pupils travelling across Leeds, West and North Yorkshire. The benefits of an effective bus service are significant for pupils, parents and the School. A high number of pupils using the buses ensures we are being considerate to the environment and local community and relieves traffic congestion. It is for these reasons that The Grammar School at Leeds is working with Sandla Transport to deliver a high quality, reliable, flexible and cost-effective service for our pupils. The benefits of the GSAL bus service include: • Modern, luxury fleet, fitted with seatbelts • Bespoke service for GSAL pupils • Extensive coverage across Leeds, West and North Yorkshire • All drivers have been fully trained and have enhanced CRB clearance • Flexible ticketing options This brochure provides details of the bus service and further information is also available from the School’s Transport Administrator, email [email protected]. In order to ensure that children at both sites are accommodated the School provides an exclusive Rose Court Shuttle Bus Service which operates in the morning leaving Alwoodley Gates at 08.10 and arriving at Rose Court in Headingley at 08.35. In the afternoon the shuttle bus leaves Rose Court at 15.40 and arrives at Alwoodley Gates at 16.05. Due to the age of the children they are escorted by qualified and experienced Rose Court staff. In order to reassure parents the staff will have details of which children will be travelling each day. If parents would like their children to use the Rose Court Shuttle Bus Service it needs to be booked in advance, and the days and journeys booked must be the same for each week of the term. This will enable us to ensure that we have the correct ratio of staff to children and also that we don’t exceed the vehicle’s capacity. However, this does mean it is not possible to use the shuttle bus service on an occasional basis unless in an extreme emergency. Parents of children using the Rose Court Shuttle Bus can park in the staff car park at Alwoodley Gates so they can drop off and pick up from the shuttle bus, they simply need to get a special parking permit. Permits are available from the staff who are escorting the children on the shuttle bus and from reception at Rose Court. There are also late evening buses to accommodate pupils who are taking part in after school activities. The bus service is open to all children based at Alwoodley Gates from Year 3 through to Year 13. Daily services will arrive at school between 08:00 and 08:20 and depart school at 16:10. The GSAL bus service picks up and drops off at all general bus stops. Pupils will need a pre-paid travel pass or ticket to use the GSAL bus service as this is a cashless service. Booking in advance If you would like to buy a travel pass please complete the enclosed application form and return it with your payment to the Transport Administrator at school. Please indicate on the application form the boarding point and homeward journey dropping off point so that we can ensure that the numbers on the vehicles do not exceed the vehicle’s capacity. For pupils wishing to use the bus service from September all applications and payments for passes must be received by 15 August 2012. There are a number of ways to pay for the travel pass: • By cheque made payable to “GSAL” which should accompany your booking form, or • By credit/debit card. If you wish to pay by credit/debit card you will be contacted upon receipt of your booking form to arrange the payment. Please note if you do wish to pay by credit card a 1% charge will be added to the value of the transaction. There will be a discount of 5% on the purchase price of an annual travel pass for all applications received by 15 August 2012, please see page 8 for the details. Sibling discounts are available on annual travel pass applications. To qualify for this discount the applications must be made at the same time. For the first and second child the annual travel pass is charged at full cost and for third (and subsequent) children there will be a 50% discount. The travel pass will be issued by the start of term once we have processed your application and remittance. Booking on the day We appreciate that parents and pupils would like the flexibility of being able to use the bus service on an occasional basis so pre-paid single tickets will be available from reception at Junior School and Senior School. A pre-paid travel ticket must be purchased in advance thereby eliminating the need for your child to have the correct fare in cash. The tickets can be purchased for each zone and are available singly or in books of 10. 6 GSAL Travel Booklet v6:Layout 1 02/07/2012 10:15 Page 7 Daily Bus Service Summary Eleven daily bus services will operate to and from School.
