Benefice Profile August 2019 Welcome to Our Benefice Profile Dereham & District Team Ministry Serving the parishes of Dereham, Scarning, Swanton Morley, Beetley with East Bilney, Hoe, Shipdham, East with West Bradenham. Benefice Profile August 2019 www.derehamanddistrictteam.org.uk Welcome to our Benefice profile. We hope that this will help to give you a good idea of who we are and where we are now. We aim to show you what we have to offer a new Team Rector and what we hope a new Team Rector could offer us. The position of Team Rector has many opportunities for the right person and has the potential to be deeply rewarding. The eight churches range from small village churches through to St. Nicholas, King’s Lynn Dereham, the second largest parish church in Norfolk. Team Administrator The team is fortunate in having a part-time paid Administrator working 12 hours per week from Church House, Dereham, with responsibility for some of the administrative work of the Benefice. The office is open Tuesday to Friday from 10 am to 12 noon. Members of the congregation also provide voluntary support in the office. The Chairman welcomed Councillor Boyce to the Parish Council and the declaration of acceptance of office was duly signed and witnessed. 5. Resignations from the Parish Council Letters of resignation had been received from Councillors Rose and Leigh and these were accepted. The valley character is distinct from the surrounding Wensum and Tud Settled tributary farmland. Key Characteristics • An easterly draining catchment carved into Upper Chalk and overlying chalky boulder clay. Glacial sands and gravel form deposits within the river channel, as well as alluvial sediments which are overlain by the silty/sandy soils of the valley. • Glacial sands and gravels have been exploited through mineral workings, with a large number of active and disused pits. Redundant workings have created a chain of lakes with large parts of the valley floor being open water. • Topography ranges from 20-40m AOD, and forms a broad, shallow valley. • The presence of hedgerow trees and small blocks of woodland creates an enclosed character with framed views of the flat valley floor, and along the rural road network.
