The Memorial of Saint John Leonardi , (c. 1541-1609) whose Feast Day we celebrate on October 9th, was an Italian priest who founded the of Christian Doctrine. Born in Diecimo, his father sent him to pharmacy school when he was seventeen, and John plied this trade for ten years before realizing that he had a vocation to the priesthood. He was ordained in 1572 and developed an among young people with the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine. In 1574, he found- ed a community of priests, the Order of Clerks Regular of the Mother of God. After Paul V approved his new order, John moved to Rome, where he cofounded the seminary of the Propagation of the Faith. He died during the influenza epidemic, after caring for his stricken brothers. St. John is the patron saint of pharmacists.

Memorial of St. John XXIII, Pope whose Feast Day is celebrated October 11th, is known for his modesty and pastoral concern, “Good Pope John” dedicated his ministry to placing the Church at the service of the needs of the world. As supreme pontiff, John XXIII refused to be a prisoner of the Vatican, and instead modeled his papacy on the Good Shepherd, visiting the prisons of Rome, reaching out to the sick, and welcoming visitors of every faith and nation. He surprised the world by announcing the Second Vatican Council on January 25, 1959. His hope was that the Council would signal a new style for the Church and its authority.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP : “The Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) along with Pope Francis and the entire Catholic Church, have consistently upheld the Paris Agreement as an important international mechanism to promote environmental stewardship and encourage climate change mitigation. This is not a political issue, but a moral issue.” Action step: Check out: International Accountability Act (S. 1743) and contact your legislators urging them to join the global community to address climate change by returning to the Paris Agreement. To everyone who has made a gift or pledge, on behalf of Bishop LaValley, thank you for making a difference in the lives of thousands of people across the Diocese.

Please pray the following 2019 Bishop’s Fund Prayer:

God and Father of us all, in Jesus, your Son and our Savior, You have made us your sons and daughters in the family of the Church.

Continue to make us “Alive in Christ!” Throughout the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, mold and fashion this local Church into the image of Jesus, your Son and our Brother.

By means of the 2019 Bishop’s Fund Appeal, enlighten this faith family in its mission of reaching out to those whom they encounter along the way.

May it be “Christ-led, Christ-fed, and Hope filled,” inspiring the people of the North Country and beyond to find their home in Christ.

O God, give success to the works of our hands, and bless this year’s Bishop’s Fund Appeal, through Christ our Lord. Amen WORK WISDOM Every Friday afternoon at 4:45, the boss called a staff meeting.
