DEVIOT CLUB GEORGETOWN YACHT CLUB GEORGETOWN TO DEVIOT SAFARI 2017

NOTICE OF RACE

1. INTRODUCTION: Entries are invited for the Georgetown to Deviot Safari to be conducted by the Deviot Sailing Club in conjunction with the Georgetown Yacht Club on Saturday 18 February 2017. This is planned to be a fun social event rather than highly competitive race. Low water at Beauty Point is approx 1215 hrs, so boats will have the tide to assist them southwards.

2. Eligible classes All competitors must be a member of a Club affiliated with Sailing Australia, and have a Australian Sailing number. Eligible classes include: International , , Flying 11, , Pacer, NS14, , , 420, 470 , 505 classes and trailerable and keel boats, and motor boats.

The Organizing Authority may refuse any entry for a boat deemed unsuitable for the event.

All those taking part in this event do so at their own risk and responsibility. The Organizing Authority shall not be responsible for the seaworthiness of a boat whose entry has been accepted, or for the adequacy or sufficiency of its equipment.

Attention is drawn to ISAF Fundamental Rule 4 which states, “The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone.”

No member or members of the Organizing Authority, nor other party involved with this event, shall accept any responsibility for, or be liable for any accident, injury, damage or personal loss (material or otherwise) to any boat, participant or third party, before, during or after any race of the event. The safety of any boat and her entire management, including insurance, shall be the responsibility of the entrant of the event.

3. SAILING PROGRAMME: A Compulsory Race Briefing for all entrants will be held in the Georgetown Clubhouse at -: 1200 Hrs

There will be three (3) Start times-: 1. District (International Mirror, Sabre, Flying 11, Laser, Pacer, Hartley 16): 1230 hrs 2. NS14, 420, 470: 1300 hrs 3. , B14, 505, keel and other trailerable: 1300 hrs

Participating motor boats are expected to start at 1300 hrs.

4. COURSE The Start: The Starts will be in the bay immediately off Georgetown Yacht Club. Starting details will be provided in the sailing instructions.

Middle Island is to be left to Starboard.

The Finish: All boats will sail to Mowbray Point C (permanent Orange buoy), then south to Mark E (permanent Orange buoy) and return north to the finish line in front of the Deviot Sailing Club (Yellow Inflatable buoy outer mark). All marks to Starboard. (See diagram on next page).

Alternative Course in case of unfavourable weather: An alternative course in the vicinity of GTYC may be used in the case of unsuitable conditions for the course ending at Deviot (see Sailing Instructions). This may be utilised in the case of strong winds, and southerly winds.

Boats must keep well clear of any commercial shipping.

5. RULES: All events shall be conducted under the Racing Rules of Sailing (2017-2020), the prescriptions and safety regulations of Sailing Australia, as modified by the safety instructions for this event.

6. ENTRIES: Entry can be made on the day at GTYC on the event specific Entry Form. Note: incomplete entries will not be accepted Entry fee for All Boats $10.00 Entries close at GTYC at 1200 hrs

7. HANDICAPS Yardsticks for dinghy classes will be based on Victoria Yardsticks 2016-2017 Version 1.0, Released 1 October 2016, and the YV Yardstick - Catamarans document released 1 September 2016, Version 1. These include the following Yardsticks: B14 - 94, 29er - 96.5, 505 - 97.5, – 81.5, Hobie 16 with Spin - 77, Turbo – 91.5. The Organising Authority will determine arbitrary handicaps for Trailerable and Keel boats which will be based on the most current version of the ‘PCYC / TYC Handicaps’.

8. PRIZES Prizes will be presented to the fastest boats on a yardstick basis, or where 4 or more boats compete of the same class to the first boat of that class. If the event is well supported, it is planned to obtain sponsorship for the 2018 race.

9. MEALS Sausages, hamburgers, cordial and water will be available all morning at George Town Yacht Club. The canteen at Deviot will be open following the Race and a roast meal will be available from 6pm ($15 per person). Numbers for the evening meal will be required by 12 noon on Friday 17. 10. ARRANGEMENTS The boat shed at Deviot will be open between 4pm and 6pm on Friday 17 February, and from 9am to 10am on Sat 18 February for Deviot members to collect their boats. Dinghies will not be towed from Deviot to Georgetown by Deviot rescue boats. Boats can be left at George Town Yacht Club for Friday night. Boats overnighting at Deviot on Saturday night can utilise the club facilities, and some moorings will be available.
