Comments on August 1, 2018 Planning Commission agenda items, received July 26-30 Items 1a/b, South Nashville Community Plan Amendment/Fairgrounds Mixed-Use District -----Original Message----- From: John Bernatavitz [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, July 30, 2018 10:30 AM To: Planning Commissioners Subject: Major League Soccer is what Nashville needs; so please support the proposed stadium! Dear Members of the Planning Commission, The 2018 World Cup said it all. What a great event! Nashville could also potentially share in the sport the binds the world together. I support the proposed Major League Soccer Stadium and renovation to the Fairgrounds Nashville. Professional sports teams in Nashville have turned into major brands that are recognized across their various leagues. The Predators not only hosted the NHL All Star weekend not long ago but are widely hailed as having the best home ice advantage in hockey. The Titans, on the heels of their incredible new uniform update ceremony, were selected to host next year's NFL draft at Ascend Amphitheater. Professional sports always have, and always will greatly benefit not only the neighborhoods where they play, but the city as a whole. I would ask that you seize this opportunity to make history with us and vote to approve this soccer stadium as well as the accompanying fairgrounds renovations. I recently went on a trip to Belize, and in the small village of Hopkins, Belize, I and my wife had the privilege of experiencing the World Cup final between Croatia and France with many people throughout the world in this village.

The four international members of ORIGAMI Quartet, formed in Autumn 2008 in Lucerne, Switzerland, each represents one side of one of these sheets. The group have all studied at the world-renowned jazz department at Lucerne University, sharing teachers who are among the leading lights of contemporary jazz, such as trombonist Nils Wogram and guitarist Frank Möbus. The band members’ varied geographic and cultural backgrounds is mirrored in their vast array of influences, which range from Jimi Hendrix to contemporary classical composer Morton Feldman, and from Rage against the Machine to south Indian classical music. ORIGAMI Quartet aim to fold all these expansive influences together into something that sounds fresh and new, not bound to any specific genres or categories. Musicians: Keisuke Matsuno (guitar, electronics, compositions) was born in Berlin, Germany in 1985. He studied at the ‘Franz Liszt’ Hochschule für Musik in Weimar from 2005 – 2007 before moving to Switzerland to study at Lucerne University from 2007 – 2009. He has studied privately with Frank Möbus, Wolfgang Muthspiel, Nils Wogram, Rainer Tempel, Kurt Rosenwinkel and Jonathan Kreisberg among others, as well as attending masterclasses with Jim Black, Ed Neumeister, Jamey Haddad etc. Keisuke has performed with Nils Wogram, Michael Gibbs, Dave Liebman, Carsten Daerr and Kammerorchester der Berlin Philharmoniker in concerts in Germany, Switzerland, USA and Japan.

GERRY MULLIGAN DISCOGRAPHY GERRY MULLIGAN RECORDINGS, CONCERTS AND WHEREABOUTS by Gérard Dugelay, France and Kenneth Hallqvist, Sweden January 2011 Gerry Mulligan DISCOGRAPHY - Recordings, Concerts and Whereabouts by Gérard Dugelay & Kenneth Hallqvist - page No. 1 PREFACE BY GERARD DUGELAY I fell in love when I was younger I was a young jazz fan, when I discovered the music of Gerry Mulligan through a birthday gift from my father. This album was “Gerry Mulligan & Astor Piazzolla”. But it was through “Song for Strayhorn” (Carnegie Hall concert CTI album) I fell in love with the music of Gerry Mulligan. My impressions were: “How great this man is to be able to compose so nicely!, to improvise so marvellously! and to give us such feelings!” Step by step my interest for the music increased I bought regularly his albums and I became crazy from the Concert Jazz Band LPs. Then I appreciated the pianoless Quartets with Bob Brookmeyer (The Pleyel Concerts, which are easily available in France) and with Chet Baker. Just married with Danielle, I spent some days of our honey moon at Antwerp (Belgium) and I had the chance to see the Gerry Mulligan Orchestra in concert. After the concert my wife said: “During some songs I had lost you, you were with the music of Gerry Mulligan!!!” During these 30 years of travel in the music of Jeru, I bought many bootleg albums. One was very important, because it gave me a new direction in my passion: the discographical part. This was the album “Gerry Mulligan – Vol. 2, Live in Stockholm, May 1957”.

  • The Recordings
Appendix: The Recordings These are the URLs of the original locations where I found the recordings used in this book. Those without a URL came from a cassette tape, LP or CD in my personal collection, or from now-defunct YouTube or Grooveshark web pages. I had many of the other recordings in my collection already, but searched for online sources to allow the reader to hear what I heard when writing the book. Naturally, these posted “videos” will disappear over time, although most of them then re- appear six months or a year later with a new URL. If you can’t find an alternate location, send me an e-mail and let me know. In the meantime, I have provided low-level mp3 files of the tracks that are not available or that I have modified in pitch or speed in private listening vaults where they can be heard. This way, the entire book can be verified by listening to the same re- cordings and works that I heard. For locations of these private sound vaults, please e-mail me and I will send you the links. They are not to be shared or downloaded, and the selections therein are only identified by their numbers from the complete list given below. Chapter I: 0001. • History of Jazz Tenor Saxophone Black Artists
HISTORY OF JAZZ TENOR SAXOPHONE BLACK ARTISTS 1940 – 1944 SIMPLIFIED EDITION INTRODUCTION UPDATE SIMPLIFIED EDITION I have decided not to put on internet the ‘red’ Volume 3 in my Jazz Solography series on “The History of Jazz Tenor Saxophone – Black Artists 1940 – 1944”. Quite a lot of the main performers already have their own Jazz Archeology files. This volume will only have the remainders, and also auxiliary material like status reports, chronology, summing ups, statistics, etc. are removed, to appear later in another context. This will give better focus on the many good artists who nevertheless not belong to the most important ones. Jan Evensmo June 22, 2015 INTRODUCTION ORIGINAL EDITION What is there to say? That the period 1940 - 1944 is a most exciting one, presenting the tenorsax giants of the swing era in their prime, while at the same time introducing the young, talented modern innovators. That this is the last volume with no doubt about the contents, we know what is jazz and what is not. Later it will not be that easy! That the recording activities grow decade by decade, thus this volume is substantially thicker than the previous ones. Just wait until Vol. 4 appears ... That the existence of the numerous AFRS programs partly compensates for the unfortunate recording ban of 1943. That there must be a lot of material around not yet generally available and thus not listed in this book. Please help building up our jazz knowledge base, and share your treasures with the rest of us. That we should remember and be eternally grateful to the late Jerry Newman, whose recording activities at Minton's and Monroe's have given us valuable insight into the developments of modern jazz.

NOTES RADIO AND TELEVISION STATION TRANSFERS:. ADEQUACY OF-SUPERVISION UNDER THE FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS ACT Over five hundred radio and television stations were transferred in a recent twelve month period reflecting the increasing significance of transfers in regulation of the industry.1 While the history of radio regu- lation traces back to 1910,2 the first legislation controlling transfers was the Radio Act of 1927 which required "the consent in writing of the licensing authority."3 The Communications Act of 1934 re-enacted this provision and added the "public interest" criterion as a basis for judging transfers.4 Under this vague statutory mandate,, the FCC has empha- sized a number of factors in approving or disapproving transfer applica- 1. For purposes of this Note, "transfer" will refer to transfer and assignment of stations (which naturally includes the license), and transfers of construction permits.
