(Please refer to the FAQs on the Kennel Club Website for further information). Where a Best Puppy in Show competition is scheduled the Best Puppy in Show is a puppy which has competed and is unbeaten by any other puppy exhibited at the same Show. A puppy is a dog of six and not exceeding twelve calendar months of age on the first day of the Show. Where the Best of Breed, Best of Group or Best in Show is a puppy it should automatically be awarded Best Puppy in Breed, Best Puppy in Group and Best Puppy in Show respectively. Similarly, if the Reserve Best of Breed, Reserve Best in Group or Reserve Best in Show is a puppy which has only been beaten by an adult dog it should also automatically be Best Puppy in Breed, Best Puppy in Group or Best Puppy in Show respectively. Consequently, selection of Best Puppy in Breed, Best Puppy in Group and Best Puppy in Show must follow the selection of Best of Breed and Best in Show respectively. (a) Championship Shows Judged on the Group System. (1) Best Puppy in Breed. A Best Puppy must be declared in each breed from puppies entered in the breed classes. (2) Best Puppy in Group. From 1st January 2015, and for a period of two years the Kennel Club Show Regulations which stipulate that dogs must be entered and exhibited in a breed class before exhibiting in an Any Variety Class/Stakes Class and that only unbeaten dogs are eligible to compete in the group or best in competitions are suspended. (Please refer to the FAQs on the Kennel Club Website for further information). Best Puppy in Group and subsequent Group placings must be selected from: (a) Those puppies declared Best Puppy in Breed provided that they are unbeaten by any other puppy. (b) The puppy declared Best Puppy from the Any Variety Not Separately Classified classes in each group or on each day provided it is unbeaten by any other puppy. (3) Best Puppy in Show must be selected from the Best Puppy in Group winners provided they are unbeaten by any other puppy. (b) Withdrawal from Competition. Puppies which become eligible for Best Puppy in Group and Best Puppy in Show may be withdrawn from all other competition, other than breed classes and Best Puppy in Breed, prior to the competition for Best Puppy in Group and Best Puppy in Show as appropriate, in order to remain unbeaten. A puppy beaten in competition for Best Puppy in Group or Best Puppy in Show may subsequently be exhibited in all competition for which it was previously eligible. The dog declared Best Puppy in Show, however, must not compete in any subsequent competition. Puppies may be withdrawn from Any Variety classes when judged before Breed classes. (c) Proviso. For the purpose of this Regulation, dogs beaten in competition for Stud Dog, Brood Bitch, Progeny, Brace and Team or a Special Award confined to one breed will not be considered to be a beaten dog. 12 Best in Show: From 1st January 2015, and for a period of two years the Kennel Club Show Regulations which stipulate that dogs must be entered and exhibited in a breed class before exhibiting in an Any Variety Class/Stakes Class and that only unbeaten dogs are eligible to compete in the group or best in competitions are suspended. (Please refer to the FAQs on the Kennel Club Website for further information) The dog declared Best in Show is a dog which has competed and is unbeaten by any other dog exhibited at the same Show. 7 Definition of a Category 3 Breed. A breed from time to time designated by the General Committee as requiring particular monitoring by reason of visible condition(s) which may cause health or welfare concerns. The list of designated Category 3 Breeds is kept under regular review. (a) Shows Judged on the Group System (Definition: Shows judged on the Group system include classes for breeds within more than one Group, as defined in Kennel Club Regulation B(A); and requires a judge to declare a Best of each Group after which the exhibits so declared will compete for the award of Best in Show and Reserve Best in Show). (1) Best of Breed Where a breed is separately classified a Best of Breed may be declared but only from those dogs which have received a first prize in a breed class at the show. Where separate classes are provided for each sex of a breed a Best of each Sex must be declared. NOTE: The Best of Breed/Best Any Variety Not Separately Classified award relevant to a Category 3 Breed will not be confirmed until the dog has passed an examination by the General and Group Championship Show Veterinary Surgeon. (2) Best of Group. Best of Group and subsequent group placings must be selected from: (a) The Best of Breed winners in each Group provided that they are unbeaten winning dogs. (b) The best unbeaten winning dog from the Any Variety Not Separately Classified classes in each Group or on each day. NOTE: The dog declared Best of Breed/Best Any Variety Not Separately Classified from a breed designated by the Kennel Club as a Category 3 Breed is not eligible to compete in the Group competition unless it has passed an examination by the Show’s Veterinary Surgeon. If the dog fails to pass the examination it is ineligible to compete in the relevant Group. (3) Best in Show. Best in Show must be selected from the Best of Group winners provided they are unbeaten. Reserve Best in Show must be selected from the remaining Group winners following the selection of Best in Show. (b) Withdrawal from Other Competition. Dogs which become eligible for Best of Group and Best in Show may be withdrawn from all other competition (other than Breed Classes and Best of Breed) prior to the competition for Best of Group or Best in Show as appropriate in order to remain unbeaten. A dog beaten in competition for Best of Group or Best in Show may subsequently be exhibited in all competition for which it was previously eligible. The dogs declared Best in Show and Reserve Best in Show however, must not compete in any subsequent competition. Dogs may be withdrawn from Any Variety Classes when judged before Breed Classes. (c) Proviso. For the purposes of this Regulation dogs beaten in competition for Stud Dog, Brood Bitch, Progeny, Brace and Team or a Special Award confined to a single breed, will not be considered to be beaten dogs. 13 Admission to Groups: Exhibits will not be admitted to Best in Show and Best Puppy in Show competition after a period of ten minutes has elapsed since the announcement that exhibits are required for judging, unless they have been unavoidably delayed by previous judging not being completed on time, and then only with the special permission of the Show Management. 14 Harsh Handling: Exhibitors must not pick up dogs by their tails and leads when lifting them. This is not acceptable. Exhibitors should note that such practice would constitute harsh handling and reports of such practice will be referred to the Committee under Kennel Club Show Regulation F11. 15 Preparation of Dogs for Exhibition: All exhibitors must be familiar with Kennel Club Regulation F (Annex B) — Regulations for the Preparation of Dogs for Exhibition. 16 Overseas Exhibitors: All dogs resident outside the UK must be issued with a Kennel Club Authority to Compete number before entry to the show/event can be made. All overseas entries without an Authority to Compete number will be returned to the exhibitor/competitor. 17 Dogs in Vehicles on Hot Days: Your dog is vulnerable and at risk during hot weather and the Kennel Club offers the following guidance to help guide you through the do’s and don’ts travelling to and whilst at Kennel Club licensed events. • When travelling to a show please take a moment to consider whether the route to the show is on a busy holiday route, and leave earlier to avoid increased time in traffic jams. • If your vehicle is not air-conditioned seriously consider whether travelling to the show is a good idea at all. • The vehicle should be as fully ventilated as possible, and plenty of stops should be taken, with lots of water available to drink. • Ensure your dog is not sitting in full sunlight. There should be plenty of free flowing air around the dog. • When at the show, never leave your dog in the vehicle. • Keep the dog in the shade — take your own shade, for example a large umbrella and always have plenty of water available to drink so your dog stays well hydrated. • Avoid your dog taking part in unnecessary exertion, or from standing in exposed sunlight for extended lengths of time. Remember, if you feel hot your dog is very likely to feel much hotter and dehydrated, and this could lead to dire results. Please look after your dog’s welfare. WARNING: IF YOUR DOG IS FOUND TO BE AT RISK, FORCIBLE 8 ENTRY TO YOUR VEHICLE MAY BE NECESSARY WITHOUT LIABILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED. Anyone whose dog is entered at a Kennel Club licensed event should take all reasonable steps to ensure the needs of their dog(s) are met, and should not put a dog’s health and welfare at risk by any action, default, omission or otherwise. Breach of Kennel Club Regulations in this respect may be referred to the General Committee for disciplinary action under Kennel Club Limited Rules and Regulations. Exhibitors/Competitors are reminded that show societies have the right under Kennel Club Regulation to refuse any entry. 18 Not For Competition: Not For Competition entries will be accepted. Details of each dog so entered must be recorded on the entry form and must be Kennel Club registered. 19 Schedule Amendments: No modifications will be made to this schedule except by permission of the General Committee of the Kennel Club, which will be followed by advertisement in the Canine Press wherever possible. 20 AbideByRules:The Show will be held under Kennel Club Limited Rules and Show Regulations. No dog shall be absent from its bench for the purpose of exercise for longer than 30 minutes. All breeds will be benched in catalogue order and the owner’s dogs of the same breed will be benched consecutively, without extra fee. No bench numbers shall be changed from one pen to another and no dog shall be benched on any but its own numbered bench. Under no circumstances may partitions between the dogs be removed. 27 Responsibility: The Committee will be most anxious for the care and safety of the dogs brought for exhibition but it must be clearly understood by exhibitors and purchasers of dogs and all other persons, that the Committee will not be responsible for the entire or partial loss or detention of or damage to a dog or dogs, boxes, hampers, collars or any other property whatever, arising from accident, or any other cause whatever, nor from any act or omission of themselves, their officers, agents, servants or others, and it is on this understanding only that entries are received. The committee will not be in any way responsible for any claim for injury or compensation occasioned by or arising out of the holding of the show or by reason of the act or default of any person or persons in attendance or present thereat. Parents/adults will be responsible for any damage caused by children in their care. 28 Gangways & Grooming Areas: The majority of breeds have a 10 foot gangway between benches and as long as exhibitors make sure there is a 6 foot clear space in the middle, they will be able to groom their dogs on or at their bench. Grooming areas are also provided by the Club for those wishing to use them or unable to groom at their bench. The use of chalk powders or any other similar substance is prohibited within the precincts of the show. See the KC Regulations for the Preparation of Dogs for Exhibition F(B). 29 Judging: All Judges are requested to take the classes in each breed in the order in which they are entered in the Judging Book. Should any judged be prevented from fulfilling his/her engagement, the Committee reserves to itself the right of appointing another in his/her place. Exhibitors are at liberty to withdraw from competition but no entry fees can be refunded. Judges will be instructed and empowered to withhold the prize or prizes in any class if in their opinion the dog or dogs exhibited do not possess sufficient merit. Judges are not empowered to give prizes beyond those offered in this Schedule. The Judge’s decision shall be final except in a case of fraud or misrepresentation or where a mistake has been made bona fide by the Judge. 30 Regulations: All Rules and Regulations, or definitions and instructions of the nature of Rules and Regulations printed for convenience in other parts of this Schedule, shall be deemed to be the Regulations of the Committee and shall have the same effect as if they formed part of these Regulations. 31 Right of Appeal: Should any question arise not provided for in these Regulations, the decision of the Committee shall be final, subject to appeal to the Kennel Club. 32 Enquiries etc.: All correspondence, enquiries and letters should be addressed to the Hon. Secretary and the breed exhibited mentioned. 33 Fouling: Any owner, exhibitor, handler or other person in charge of a dog is required to remove as soon as possible any fouling caused by their dog(s) at any Kennel Club Licensed Show within the Licensed venue and within the environs of that event, including car and caravan parks and approaches. Adequate receptacles for the disposal of such fouling will be provided. 34 Control of Dogs: The owner, exhibitor, handler or other person in charge of a dog at Kennel Club licensed events must at all times ensure that the dog is kept under proper control whilst at the licensed venue, including its environs, car and caravan parks and approaches. Members must be aged 6 - 24 years (for members 6 years and up to, but not including 25th birthday). Please note that membership of the YKC terminates on a member’s 25th birthday. Therefore if a member is aged 25 years or over by the first day of Crufts they will be unable to compete. Please keep this in mind when entering qualifiers throughout the competing year. Crufts 2017 Qualification Procedure: The first placed member only in each dog group at the qualifying show will qualify for Crufts. A rosette and prize money is awarded. If the first placed member has already qualified, the Crufts qualification will roll down to the next member (down to 3rd place only). YOUNG KENNEL CLUB MEMBERS’ HANDLING—Only dogs of six (6) calendar months of age and over on the day of competition are eligible for entry into a YKC qualifying class. Dogs must be entered into a breed class to participate in a YKC Handling class at a championship or open show. The FIRST placed handler only in each age group at the qualifying show will qualify for Crufts. A rosette is awarded to the first place winner. This is not a roll down competition. Handling qualfiers run from the 1st January to the 31st December for the following year’s Crufts. If a member is disqualified, the qualification does not roll down to the next placing. Classes for handling are decided by the handler’s age. The classes are divided into three age groups: 6-11 years (6 years and up to, but not including 12th birthday). 12-16 years (12 years and up to, but not including 17th birthday). 17-24 years (17 years and up to, but not including 25th birthday). In order to enter any YKC competition, you must be a fully paid up member at the time of entry and competition. If you enter a Crufts qualifier and you have not previously paid your membership fee then any award will be forfeited. Therefore it is important to renew and maintain YKC membership as current if you wish to participate in YKC competitions. NOT FOR COMPETITION—Societies may at their discretion, accept Not For Competition entries. Societies may accept such entries from breeds of dog not included within the title of the Society and at Shows held over more than one day, such entries may be accepted on any day from any breed. REGULATIONS FOR THE PREPARATION OF DOGS FOR EXHIBITION F (B) 1 These Regulations must be observed when a dog is prepared for exhibition and/or exhibited at any Kennel Club Licensed event. Objections may be referred to the General Committee for disciplinary action under these Show Regulations and/or for disciplinary action under Kennel Club Rule A42. (a) A dog found to have been exhibited in breach of these Regulations will automatically be disqualified from exhibition at the show and from any award gained thereat. (b) Unless the exhibitor provides a satisfactory explanation for the dog being exhibited in breach of these Regulations then he/she may be subject to further penalties of either a fine or as listed under Rule A42. 2 (a) No substance which alters the natural colour, texture or body of the coat may be present in the dog’s coat for any purpose at any time during the Show. No substance which alters the natural colour of any external part of the dog may be present on the dog for any purpose at any time during the Show. (b) Any other substance (other than water) which may be used in the preparation of a dog for exhibition must not be allowed to remain in the coat or on any other part of the dog at the time of exhibition. 3 No act or operation which alters the natural conformation of a dog or any part thereof may be performed except: (a) Operations certified to the satisfaction of the General Committee. Nor must anything be done calculated to in the opinion of the General Committee to deceive. 4 The General Committee without previous notice may order an examination of any dog or dogs at any Show. Any examination thus ordered will be made by a person having executive authority who shall have a written directive from the Kennel Club in their possession. Samples may be taken for further examination and analysis. 5 An individual has the right to lodge an objection to a dog only if he/she is the owner or handler of a dog competing in the same breed or class. An objection may, however, be lodged by an official of the Show or by anyone so deputed by the Kennel Club. It will be the responsibility of the individual who lodges the objection or the official (as appropriate), to substantiate the grounds for the objection. The Kennel Club will substantiate the grounds for an objection made on its behalf. 6 Any objection by an individual related to an infringement of these Regulations must be made in writing to the Show Secretary at his/her office before the close of the Show and the individual must produce evidence of identity at the time of lodging the complaint.
