Western Zone Presentation Night Western Zone Cricket held their second Presentation Night at the Oriana Motel in Orange on Saturday night the 27th July 2013. Players from the successful 2012-13 All Age winning team and players from the winning team of 2000-2001were invited. The evening was attended by 65 delegates, former and present players and partners along with Country Cricket Chairman Ian Hogg and new NSW Cricket CEO Andrew Jones. Western Zones second life membership was presented to Doug Wright from Cowra for his many years of service. Regional Manager Game development Manager, Matthew Tabbernor continues to work hard across the vast areas of Western Zone visiting schools and associations in promoting the game of cricket. Hopefully in the near future more money will be available from Cricket Australia to employ another game development person to service the Western areas of our Zone. Administrator Colin Wood in his eleventh year as Administrator continues to work hard to provide quality administration to Western Zone Cricket. All of us involved in cricket are greatly indebted to Colin for his contribution over so many years. As Chairman I would like to acknowledge the friendships and contributions of the many cricket enthusiasts who are involved in the organisation of Western Zone Cricket. Neil Doherty – Deputy Chairman – Mitchell Selector and Chairman of Selectors Stephen Pool – Umpires Co-ordinator until his resignation Greg Jones – New Umpire Co-ordinator Maree Cornish – Women”s Co-ordinator Jordan Moran – Academy Coach Garth Dean – Mitchell Coaching Director Tony Wells – Mitchell Coaching Director Trevor Thomas – Macquarie Valley Coaching Director Rod Kershaw – Lachlan Coaching Director Carl Sharpe – Mitchell Secretary Greg Morrissey – Lachlan Secretary Warren Saunders – Macquarie Valley Secretary Tim Cox – Macquarie Valley Selector Pat Rosser – Lachlan Selector Planning Meeting Matt Tabbenor chaired a meeting held in Orange on the 6th April to discuss the future of cricket across Western Zone considering the changing population shift to the larger centres across our Zone. Some very important ideas on the future of cricket across our Zone came out of the meeting and these will be discussed at Council AGM’s and voted on at Western Zone AGM held on 27th July. Country Committee of Management The Country Committee met on the first Monday in September, December, March and June. The AGM was held in Gerringong August 2013 where life membership was presented to Simon Moore from Newcastle. The 2014 AGM will be held at Mittagong RSL on Saturday 23rd August followed by the Country Dinner at the Bradman Museum. NSW Cricket Winning the Sheffield Shield and coming runners up in the Ryobi Cup were the great successes of NSW male cricket in the 2013-14 season. NSW Cricket and ACT Cricket are close to signing an agreement that will see a Sydney Metropolitan team and a NSW Country ACT team play in the Australian Championships in boys Under 17 and Under19’s and girls Under 15 and Under 18’s. The selection process will see ACT juniors become part of Southern Zone teams to compete in the Under14-16-17-19’s competition for boys and Under 15 and 18 for girls. This is an exciting proposal which will give talented Country Players the opportunity to be selected to play in the Australian Under Age Championships. The financial situation of NSW Cricket has improved dramatically this season and the new television rights for the T20 cricket has been a major success. In conclusion it has been my pleasure to represent Western Zone as a delegate to Country Cricket and NSW Cricket. WZ Administrator - Colin Wood Another very busy season has been completed. My sincere thanks to the ‘cricket people’ who have participated, organised and supported cricket activities in Western Zone. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this Annual Report. It is obvious we have many great and talented servants of the game in Western Zone. The year got off to a great start with our second Awards Night, where we honoured Mr Doug Wright from Cowra with Life Membership. A truly worthy recipient on this great honour. As well we celebrated the CCNWS Championship won in Orange on 25 November 2012. The Awards night also allowed us to enjoy the company of our only other NSW Country Champion team, the side that defeated Newcastle in 2001-02. In his role as Country Programs Manager Bruce Whitehouse continued his fantastic support of Western Zone Cricket. Chairman of CCNSW, Ian Hogg, has been unwavering in his support and council. To Andrew Jones and the Board of CNSW, we Thank You for providing the resources that allow us to continue to provide an ‘opportunity’ for cricketers to play the greatest game at a level they might not normally enjoy. There have been many structural change within CNSW and I hope these changes will be of benefit to all those involved in cricket in Western Zone Matt Tabbernor continues to go above and beyond in his role as Western Region Cricket Manager and we should all be very grateful for what he brings to cricket in our part of the world.

The Preamble – The Spirit of Cricket Taken from the MCC’s Laws of Cricket 2000 Code 4th Edition - 2010 Cricket is a game that owes much of its unique appeal to the fact that it should be played not only within its Laws but also within the Spirit of the Game.
