From The President What a beautiful sight. The flowers are blooming, the grass is green, and the weather is warmer (at the least, there’s no snow). Spring gives me the feeling of freshness and a new start. It almost seems like things are back to normal. We are in the Bridge Phase and so close to Phase 5. It does feel like a new beginning.

We are so happy to be able to offer activities for Swedish Days. It will still be a bit different as we had to plan events in advance. Even though we may move into a new phase, we are unable to change major plans at this time. So, let us enjoy our “new” Swedish Days. Member News (cont.) Geneva Public Library NEWS Our Summer Reading Challenge kicks off June 1 with tracks and prizes for adults, teens, and kids. We hope you’ll sweeten your summer with some good reads! The Challenge ends July 31.

The Library will host booths with activities in their parking lot and hold Creation Station inside the Library. There will be additional scheduled and drop-in pro- gramming to enjoy! Check the Chamber’s website for details at genevachamber.com.

Geneva Public Library is excited to partner with Geneva Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cuttings for Kids’ Day at Swedish Days on Friday, June 25.

In July, the Library will celebrate their new building - which opened to the public in July 2020 - with special events July 12-18. Partners include Water Street Stu- dios, Harvey’s Tales, and the City of Geneva’s Cultural Arts Commission. Check the calendar at gpld.org for the latest information.

Keeping the Swedish in Swedish Days

SATURDAY JUNE 26 11 am-1:30 pm Kubb Demo & Game Kane County Courthouse Lawn – South Side Legend has it that Kubb dates back to the Swedish Viking Age, and was played with the skulls and femurs of their vanquished enemies. Rest assured, the game today is played with Kubbs(skulls) and Batons(femurs) made entirely of wood. The world championship for this lawn game is still played on the Swedish island of Gotland.
