Dynamo, meanwhile, managed just half as many points as the Belgian side, three of those coming on Matchday 6 when they beat Ferencváros 1-0 at home to claim third spot in Group G – a long way behind top two Juventus and Barcelona. Previous meetings • There was nothing to choose between the clubs in the first leg, with Dynamo taking the lead on 62 minutes through Vitaliy Buyalskiy but Club Brugge striking back five minutes later as Belgian international defender Brandon Mechele ended a 46-game wait for his first European goal. • The clubs met in UEFA competition for the first time in last season's UEFA Champions League third qualifying round, Club Brugge going through 4-3 on aggregate. A Hans Vanaken penalty gave the Belgian side a first-leg advantage before they came from behind three times in Kyiv to draw 3-3. • Club Brugge's all-time record against Ukrainian clubs is now W4 D8 L4, with just one defeat at home, albeit a heavy one, Shakhtar Donetsk overcoming them 4-1 in Bruges on Matchday 1 of the UEFA Europa League in the competition's inaugural 2009/10 season. Prior to that 1-0 home win against Dynamo in 2019, Club Brugge were on a nine-game winless run against Ukrainian opposition, home and away, which included a quarter-final defeat in 2014/15 by Dnipro (0-0 h, 0-1 a). • Dynamo faced Belgian opponents again in this season's UEFA Champions League qualifying phase, and this time they were victorious, overcoming Gent 5-1 on aggregate in the play-offs (2-1 a, 3-0 h) with Uruguayan midfielder Carlos De Pena scoring in both legs. • Dynamo also beat Gent twice in the 2010/11 UEFA Champions League third qualifying round, but their only win in seven European matches against Belgian opposition outside the qualifying phase was a 4-0 defeat of Anderlecht in the 2000/01 UEFA Champions League first group stage. Though victorious on those two visits to Gent, Dynamo have lost their other four matches in Belgium. Form guide Club Brugge • Proclaimed Belgian champions in the curtailed 2019/20 campaign, Club Brugge qualified for an unprecedented third successive season in the UEFA Champions League group stage. • As in 2018/19 and 2019/20, the Belgian side finished third in their section, but the eight points Philippe Clement's team claimed in beating Zenit twice (2-1 a, 3-0 h) and holding Lazio to two draws (1-1 h, 2-2 a) – they also lost 3-0 twice to Dortmund – equalled the club's best ever haul in a UEFA Champions League group (2003/04). • Club Brugge are appearing in the UEFA Europa League round of 32 for the sixth time. They have won only one of their previous five ties at this stage, against Danish side Aalborg (3-1 a, 3-0 h) in 2014/15, when they went on to reach the quarter-finals. Their interest in the competition ended at this stage in 2009/10 against Valencia (1-0 h, 0-3 a), 2011/12 against Hannover (1-2 a, 0-1 h), 2018/19 against Salzburg (2-1 h, 0-4 a), and 2019/20 against Manchester United (1-1 h, 0-5 a). • The Belgian club's record at home in the UEFA Europa League knockout phase is W4 D2 L1. • Club Brugge have won 12 of the 15 UEFA ties in which they recorded an away draw in the first leg, though they lost the most recent, against Copenhagen in the 2012/13 UEFA Champions League third qualifying round (0-0 a, 2-3 h).
