Urmia
Urmia is one of the cities of Iran and the capital of West Azerbaijan province and also the center of Urmia County. It is located in a vast and lush greenery plain stretched for 70 km. with a width of 30 km., surrounded by kilometers of vineyards, apple orchards and cultivated fields. Urmia Lake and Marmisho Lake lie to the east and west of the city respectively. This city is one of the touristy cities of Iran due to its mild climate and beautiful scenery. It is situated at an altitude of 1,332 meters above sea level. Urmia has ethnically a diverse population makeup that includes mainly Azeri Turks, Kurds, as well as a minority of Assyrians and Armenians.

General information
Throughout the same year, 116 students were accepted to get enrolled in two undergraduate courses, namely applied physics and business economics and a doctorate course in veterinary medicine. Subsequently, Islamic Azad University achieved a satisfactory rapid physical and qualitative growth by purchasing and constructing new buildings and offering numerous scientific disciplines and also recruiting new faculty members. This university offers a wide range of postgraduate and doctoral programs for domestic, regional and international students. Islamic Azad University of Urmia Branch strives to connect with research and study centers as well as prestigious universities around the world in order to train specialized and responsible human resources. Having access to the right hardware and software facilities and the use of modern technologies, this university enables the development of the potential capabilities of staff, students and faculty, thereby contributing to the general level of community welfare and sustainable development. At present, Islamic Azad University of Urmia Branch is one of the largest scientific centers in the northwest of the country accredited as "Full qualified level”. It has 5 faculties, namely Faculty of basic sciences, Humanities, Medical sciences, Veterinary as well as Technical and Engineering faculty along with various departments and located in three educational and research campuses.
Student's status
With over 13,000 students in four undergraduate, postgraduate, professional PhD and Full PhD courses, the university has now attained a special status in attracting the region's scientific elites.
Faculty members’ status
Islamic Azad University of Urmia Branch, with about 200 full time faculty members (Associate Professors, Assistant Professors and Instructors) has played a significant role in promoting scientific, research and cultural issues of the country.
Status of educational spaces
The total land area owned by the university is 290 thousand square meters, 87 thousand square meters of which have been used for construction of various educational and welfare spaces that are currently used. The educational and welfare space per capita of the university is currently 8 square meters per student and a total space per capita of 27 square meters per student. The number of clerical and administrative staff is 260.

Laboratories and Workshops:
The University has 62 laboratories and workshops with more than 1,200 advanced and up-to-date equipment aimed at providing the appropriate spaces to teach practical courses offered in various disciplines of basic sciences and technical sciences. The university has also furnished with specialized equipment students need for conducting their PhD and MA research projects. It also offers specialized laboratory services to industrial and scientific centers to establish a close relationship with various industrial sections that indicates the quality development of the university.
Research Centers
Research and technology is the most important mission of Islamic Azad University. It has taken important steps to establish, develop and expand research facilities. The university is committed to present technological, industrial and entrepreneurship oriented research achievements so that it can establish a close and sustainable relationship with industrial centers and thus get recognized as a pioneer in the path of development and the link between science and industry. Accordingly, the university takes it as its main responsibilities to support researchers and students who are pioneers in the fields of technology and science production trying to get linked with industry. It also commits to equip and develop research centers as well. These and other encouraging support have led the university to enhance its research potentiality by establishing 3 Research Centers, namely Psychological Research Center, Artificial Intelligence Center for Cancer Diagnosis Using Computational Methods, and Antenna and Microwave Research Center. As the instruments and equipment used in Microwave Research Center are not native to the country, it is hoped the center would help ending the importing of the devices.
Technology incubator Center
Technology incubator Center of Islamic Azad University of Urmia Branch was established in 2015 and started its activity with several technology nuclei in the field of animal vaccine, nanotechnology. The center now has 12 technology and core units in various sectors such as information and communications technology, electronics, telecommunications, civil, mechanical and medical engineering, agriculture and healthy food, medical and health care, veterinary and technology-based entertainment products.
The Library and Books
The Islamic Azad University of Urmia has four specialized libraries (Library of the Faculty of Humanities, Library of the Faculty of Engineering, Library of the Faculty of Basic Sciences and Library of the Faculty of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine) and a reference and dissertation section. Over many years, it has compiled and organized a comprehensive Persian, Latin, and digital scientific and research resources that largely meet the academic needs of the academic community. It is currently one of the largest libraries in the northwest of the country.

Other amenities, sports and cultural:
There are advanced conference venues for holding various scientific, artistic, religious and cultural events. Hundreds of post graduate students held their viva sessions annually at the venues.
-Kahrom Apartment Hotel with a total area of 994 m. in five floors and 17 suites with a total area of 3216 m. located in Kahrom Alley, Safeer Omid St, 5 km. from the city center and 18 km from the Urmia Airport. It is in the vicinity of Band recreational and tourism area and Sir Mountain. The apartment hotel is also equipped with a conference room too.
In line with providing the students with the amenities and sport facilities, the university established Shahid Amini Sports Complex in an area of 3626 square meters. The complex has been furnished with up-to-date sport facilities in separate halls dedicated for specialized sports.
Special student Dormitory (for ladies) of Kosar with a capacity of 480 people, 6300 square meters, provides the applicants from the other cities with all the amenities and relaxed environment.
Fozala Restaurant with a building area of over 3516 square meters in two separate floors provides dining services for 5000 people at the simultaneously.
The Imam Hussein (as) Mosque across from Fozala Restaurant and in vicinity of the tombs of the anonymous martyrs on the campus provides a spiritual setting for students participating in public prayers and university’s cultural events.
The University Health Center provides students, staff, and professors, at specific times of the week, with health services including general practitioner visits and other medical services.
