Kamiyama............................................................................ 116 4 Introduction from the Editor To understand the true value and meaning of Rev. Moon’s Danbury course, we need to go right back to try to understand the original thoughts of God. As the Divine Principle teaches us, when God conceived the idea of creating Adam and Eve, God’s heart was to create children who would find the greatest joy through fulfilling the three blessings, through the fulfilling of our human potential (Gen. 1:27). Despite the fall of man these 3 blessings which reflect God’s love for us are still evident today. We find great joy through growing to be all we can be; through building a successful marital-family and community life; and through both mastering and showing loving stewardship over the natural world. But we, in some way, all fall short in all these areas. Maybe no one can ever know the joy and expectant hope which God experienced as He set about creating the cosmos as a beautiful dwelling place for His children. Rev. Moon has often said, God invested 100% of himself to make the cosmos as beautiful and as varied as it is. Again, we can only imagine the tremendous hope and anticipation God felt when finally the preparations were finished and Adam and Eve were finally created. In just a few more years God’s dream would finally have been realized - Adam and Eve would reach maturity of love, would marry, would build a beautiful family in the love of God, and this tradition would continue on down throughout history - creating heaven on earth. We know from the Bible and the world around us that such a dream was never realized. Instead of finding our greatest joy as God’s children, finding our greatest happiness through loving God and loving others, history has seen an incredible amount of self-inflicted human suffering. We can only imagine the suffering that God has felt, seeing his children hurting and neglecting each other throughout history - God’s beautiful dream many times turned into a nightmare. As the Bible clearly shows, despite God’s pain, God never gave up on man, constantly sending prophets to try and educate us about our true, original nature and our true potential. After 2000 years of working with the Jewish people, God believed that the foundation was right to send Jesus, His son, in order that he might lead us back to the original ideal. Unfortunately, Jesus was not received. God’s suffering can again only be imagined as He saw Jesus and the teaching which he brought being rejected. With the rejection of Jesus, it seemed that God’s 2000 years of preparation would be completely lost - that God would have to start all over again. However, through Jesus’ attitude at the time of his crucifixion and his total forgiveness of his persecutors, God could bring a victory through Jesus’ resurrection and the subsequent Pentecost. It was there the apostles gained a deeper understanding of love and a spiritual power which changed history. On the shoulders of these few disciples, God’s and mankind’s future depended. Two thousand years later, whilst praying on a mountain side in North Korea at the age of 16, Rev. Moon had a vision of Jesus. In the vision, Jesus asked Rev. Moon to take upon his shoulders the mission which Jesus had not been able to fulfill, that of building the Kingdom of God on earth. To prepare for this mission Rev. Moon studied and prayed intensely for the next nine years and slowly discovered the Divine Principle, a teaching that could unite mankind around a common ideal. In 1945, at the end of the Second World War, Christian nations were the strongest they had ever been in terms of influence in the world. At this time Rev. Moon, who was just 25 years old, started his mission. He pledged to God, even against his own natural desires, that he would give every ounce of his energy in order to lay a foundation to be received by Christianity, then unite it, and finally guide a united Christianity to end God’s and man’s suffering. He started by working with various groups in Korea which were preparing for the second coming. However, each time, even though he was recognized by these groups as an extraordinary person, the leadership could not understand his vision. Thus, Rev. Moon went to Pyongyang in North Korea, the Jerusalem of the East, even though it had just been taken over by communists. There, with his powerful preaching and prayer, he quickly found a following. Other 5 Christian groups, however, again couldn’t understand his mission and started to persecute him. Eventually he was sentenced to 5 years in a harsh labor camp by the communist authorities. He did not complain to God however. As he has said many times, he only could think of God’s suffering situation and vowed to continue his mission. After two and a half years in prison Rev. Moon was released by United Nations forces, and although he went to South Korea, he could not forget his mission and his pledge to comfort God’s heart. But what could he do? He had invested everything of himself in his mission for seven years, but Korean Christianity had difficulty in understanding God’s message for today’s world. The foundation which had been prepared by God for more than 2000 years, the Christians who were heirs to the Judeo-Christian tradition, could not understand Jesus’ heart. What could God do so as not to lose the Christian foundation?

Unification Church of the United States From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The Unification Church of the United States is a new religious movement in the United States of America. It began in the 1950s and 1960s when missionaries from Japan and South Korea were sent to the United States by the international Unification Church's founder and leader Sun Myung Moon. It expanded in the 1970s and then became involved in controversy due to its theology, its political activism, and the life style of its members. Since then it has been involved in many areas of American society and has itself gone through substantial changes. • The Fall of the House of Moon Mariah Blake November 25, 2013
The Fall of the House of Moon Mariah Blake November 25, 2013 The New Republic One Sunday morning in February 2010, Bob Exler, a fifty-something engineer, arrived at the faded ranch house in northwest Houston where he regularly worshipped the Reverend Sun Myung Moon. Most people know Moon for his mass weddings and his ultra-conservative newspaper, The Washington Times. But Exler, who joined Moon's Unification Church in 1972, had been inspired by Moon's mission to rebuild the traditional family. As he told me, "I didn't wanted to be part of this McDonald's Drive-Thru society, where you go from one partner to another." For many years, the Sunday service had followed an unchanging routine. Exler and his wife, Susan--who were matched by Moon and married in a mass ceremony at Madison Square Garden--would join fellow disciples in pledging their loyalty to a portrait of Moon, or, as they called him, "True Father." They would then sing hymns in Korean and English, and listen to sermons by a rotating cast of elders. But on this particular Sunday, Exler and his fellow congregants arrived to find that the portrait of their leader, in his traditional Korean robe, had vanished. In its place was a wide-screen television with simulcast footage of the Reverend Moon's 45-year-old daughter, In Jin, speaking from a podium at the Manhattan Center, the concert venue where "America's Got Talent" was filmed. With her thick makeup and sculpted red hair, In Jin bore a striking resemblance to a game-show host.

  • Sun Myung Moon Dies at 92; Washington Times Owner Led the Unification Church
Sun Myung Moon dies at 92; Washington Times owner led the Unification Church Emma Brown September 2, 2012 The Washington Post Sun Myung Moon, a self-professed messiah who claimed millions of religious followers in his Unification Church and sought to become a powerful voice in the American conservative movement through business interests that included the Washington Times, has died. He was 92. The Washington Times reported that Mr. Moon died in South Korea early Monday morning (Sunday afternoon in Washington). Unification Church spokesman Ahn Ho-yeul told the Associated Press that Mr. Moon died at a church-owned hospital near his home in Gapyeong, northeast of Seoul. He had been under treatment for pneumonia. Officials say the religious leader who founded the Unification Church and built it into a multibillion- dollar business empire has died in South Korea at age 92. Mr. Moon, the son of Korean farmers, created a sprawling empire at the intersection of religion and business and became one of the world’s most enigmatic and polarizing public figures. His stated ambition was to rule the world and replace Christianity with his own faith, which blended elements of Christianity, Confucianism and Korean folk religions. A leading symbol of the 1970s cult wars in America, he attracted a great deal of attention and ridicule for holding mass weddings for Unificationist couples whom he had paired, often without the prospective partners ever having met. But his success in business and involvement in American politics “demanded that people who could care less about his peculiar doctrinal views pay attention to him,” said James Beverley, a professor at Tyndale University College and Seminary in Toronto who has studied Mr.

  • The 47Th Anniversary of the Unification Theological Seminary in Barrytown, NY
The 47th Anniversary of the Unification Theological Seminary in Barrytown, NY Naokimi Ushiroda January 21, 2021 On January 21, 1974 the Unification movement purchased a sprawling wooded estate in Barrytown, New York. For nearly half a century, it's been the American linchpin of the movement's teachings: the Unification Theological Seminary. This year marks the 47th anniversary of the property's purchase. Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU) co-founder Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon had been searching locations along the Hudson River suitable for educational purposes. With breathtaking scenic views, he reportedly visited the estate 17 times before deciding to acquire it, placing a "Founder's Rock" to mark the place where he made his decision. "We must change our direction from the established theologies which are deprived of life and spirit and turn to a new theology with a dynamic vitality and lifestyle in which God can directly participate," Rev. Moon said during his opening convocation at the Barrytown Main Chapel on September 20, 1975. "I strongly believe that the Inaugural Convocation of the Unification Theological Seminary is the laying of the cornerstone of the Earthly Kingdom of God." Formerly home to St. Joseph's Normal Institute, a novitiate and high school run by the Christian Brothers, the estate features 250 acres bordering the Hudson River, 90 miles north of New York City. From its aboriginal inhabitants, to English estate owners and Roman Catholic educators, the property's rich history has been characterized by change–and ultimately a new era of the Unification movement. UTS gave birth to an array of ecumenical and interreligious organizations that extended the wider movement's reach to scholars and religious leaders.

  • Crisis in the Unification Church After Rev. Moon's Death
Shin-Dong-A Crisis in the Unification Church after Rev. Moon’s death Hong Keun Song, Shin-Dong-A Magazine May 2013 Translation of pro-Hyun Jin Moon article by supporters of Hyun Jin Moon Rev. Moon’s 4th son and 7th son are also overthrown - Secretary rises as new influential figure Last September 3rd, the “controversial leader” passed away. Rev. Sun Myung Moon was born in the district of Jeong Joo in Pyung Book in 1920. The following is written in his autobiography “As a Peace Loving Global Citizen” that was published in 2009. “I am a controversial person. The mere mention of my name causes trouble in the world. I never sought money or fame but have spent my life speaking only of peace. The world, though, has associated many different phrases with my name, rejected me, and thrown stones at me. Many are not interested in knowing what I say or what I do. They only oppose me.” Even though the discussions over its theology are far from over, the Unification Church is the most successful religion in the 20th century among those that started in Korea. The Unification Church is both a religion and a business. There are some who even say that it is “a nation”. They increased their influence and minimized the image of a cult by initiating activities in the areas of education, media, academia, sports, arts, etc. The Segye Ilbo, Yong Pyoung resort, Sung Nam Il Hwa soccer team, Sun Won Construction, Saeil travel agency, etc., all belong to the Tongil Group.
