I'll admit that at least after reading this I feel okay about the whole arc of this story, but it still doesn't whelm me. It might go without saying, but that's exactly the problem with Earth This was the first time we'd really seen the Crime Syndicate since Crisis. Morrison drew from decades of DC hero lore to create some darker quirks in the aspects of the Crime Syndicate world. But just for a little taste of what I'm trying to get at: how do you think it would be possible for civilization to exist in any way resembling our own if at all in a universe where treachery trumps loyalty, discord trumps cooperation, and civil unrest defines the ideal state? Through art alone and such spare and powerful words, the reader gets the universe-wide, as well as personal, stakes of this story. For the most part, it's a lot of mindless fun on a grand scale.
