Aleta Chappelle After attending the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco, Ms. Aleta Chappelle joined the national touring New Shakespeare Company of San Francisco. She continued to follow her passion for Shakespeare as a company member of the Los Angeles Shakespeare Festival, and performed two summers at the Ford Theatre. She began her career in the film business working with Francis Coppola at Zoetrope Studios in the casting department, assisting on THE OUTSIDERS, RUMBLE FISH, TUCKER, PEGGY SUE GOT MARRIED, and THE COTTON CLUB. Moving up to Casting Director, her credits include; DRUMLINE, MATERIAL GIRLS, GODFATHER 3, NUTTY PROFESSOR, SISTER ACT 2, NEW YORK STORIES-ZOE, BOOMERANG, RAMBLING ROSE and many more. Most recently Ms. Chappelle did the New York casting for Sofia Coppola’s film SOMEWHERE, and two of the feature films she cast TRADE starring Kevin Klein and LIFE SUPPORT starring Queen Latifah for HBO recently premiered to rave reviews at the Sundance Film Festival. She also received nominations from the Casting Society of America Artios Awards for her work on LIFE SUPPORT and INTRODUCING DOROTHY DANDRIDGE, starring Halle Berry . Her feature film directing credits include GOOSED which premiered on SHOWTIME and starred Jennifer Tilly, Damon Wayans and Joan Rivers, and the micro-budget Action/Love Story entitled FIRE, which enjoyed a limited theatrical release in the USA and Canada. Her short film A HARLEM FANTASY premiered on PBS as part of the Paul Robeson Gala Presentation in 2007. For the stage she wrote and directed the Off Broadway production of THE MARY ELLEN PLEASANT STORY and also THE CONCEPT OF LOVE starring Julianna Margulies and Veronica Webb, which had a successful run Off-Off Broadway at the Greenwich Theatre. Ms. Chappelle continues to cast independent and studio films, while the production company she founded Moon Shadow Films, Inc. has a number of projects in development; including EXTREMADURAN PORTRAITS and MACBETT - a modern day adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth set in the Caribbean, which she wrote and will direct, starring Terrence Howard, Sanaa Lathan, Harry Lennix, Danny Glover and Blair Underwood. .

A LEVEL DRAMA AND THEATRE STUDIES A LEVEL DRAMA AND THEATRE STUDIES SUMMARY OF ASSESSMENT Component 1: Theatre Workshop Non-exam assessment: Internally assessed, externally moderated - 20% of qualification Learners will be assessed on either acting or design. Learners participate in the creation, development and performance of a piece of theatre based on a reinterpretation of an extract from a text chosen from a list supplied by WJEC. The piece must be developed using the techniques and working methods of either an influential theatre practitioner or a recognised theatre company. Learners must produce: • a realisation of the performance or design • a creative log Component 2: Text in Action Non-exam assessment: externally assessed by a visiting examiner - 40% of qualification Learners will be assessed on either acting or design. Learners participate in the creation, development and performance of two pieces of theatre based on a stimulus supplied by WJEC: 1. a devised piece using the techniques and working methods of either an influential theatre practitioner or a recognised theatre company (a different practitioner or company to that chosen for Component 1) 2. an extract from a text in a different style chosen by the learner. Learners must realise their performance live for the visiting examiner. Learners choosing design must also give a 5-10 minute presentation of their design to the examiner. Learners produce a process and evaluation report within one week of completion of the practical work. Component 3: Text in Performance Written examination: 2 hours 30 minutes 40% of qualification Sections A and B Open book: Clean copies (no annotation) of the two complete texts chosen must be taken into the examination.

Many people have come into my life in the last several years and encouraged my studies, talked excitedly with me, and subtly (or blatantly) pushed me to continue when I thought the road ahead looked too ominous. In 2005, at San Francisco State University’s Asian American Studies banquet, my Master’s thesis chair, Wei Ming Dariotis, remarked that a PhD was in the stars for me. Those words stayed close to me during my graduate work at the University of Hawai'i. My first teaching assistantship with Isabelle Peluad at San Francisco State University in Asian American Literature showed me exactly what I wanted to immerse myself in for the rest of my life. Graduate courses with Russell Jeung and Madeline Hsu reaffirmed my desire to work within the field of Asian American Studies and continue on to a doctorate program. My coursework in American Studies was rigorous and pushed me out of my comfort zone in the best way.
