PRELUDE 10:35 A.M. Schmücke dich, O Liebe Seele, BWV 654 Deck thyself, my soul, with gladness J. S. Bach

Pie Iesu from Requiem, Op.48 Gabriel Fauré Pie Iesu Dómine, dona eis réquiem, dona eis réquiem sempitérnam. O Blessed Lord Jesus, grant them rest, grant them everlasting rest.

Psalm 23— The Lord is my shepherd John Rutter The Lord is my shepherd: therefore can I lack nothing. He shall feed me in a green pasture, and lead me forth beside the waters of comfort. He shall convert my soul, and bring me forth in the paths of righteousness, for his Name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff comfort me. Thou shalt prepare a table before me against them that trouble me: thou hast anointed my head with oil, and my cup shall be full. But thy loving-kindness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever Ps 23: 1-6

THE LITURGY OF THE WORD FIRST READING Wisdom 3:1-6, 9

As sacrificial offerings he took them to himself.

A reading from the Book of Wisdom

The souls of the just are in the hand of God, and no torment shall touch them. They seemed, in the view of the foolish, to be dead; and their passing away was thought an affliction and their going forth from us, utter destruction. But they are in peace. For if before men, indeed they be punished, yet is their hope full of immortality; Chastised a little, they shall be greatly blessed,

5

because God tried them and found them worthy of himself. As gold in the furnace, he proved them, and as sacrificial offerings he took them to himself. Those who trust in him shall understand truth, and the faithful shall abide with him in love: Because grace and mercy are with his holy ones, and his care is with his elect.

Reader The word of the Lord. Assembly Thanks be to God.

ESTROFAS/VERSES

Your ways, O LORD, make known to me; teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my savior. ℟.

El Señor es bueno y recto, y enseña el camino a los pecadores; hace caminar a los humildes con rectitud, enseña su camino a los humildes. ℟.

All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth toward those who honor his covenant and decrees. The counsel of the LORD belongs to those who fear him; and his covenant instructs them. ℟.

SECOND READING 1 Peter 5:2-4

Advice to Presbyters. A reading from the first Letter of Saint Peter

Tend the flock of God in your midst, not by constraint but willingly, as God would have it, not for shameful profit but eagerly. Do not lord it over those assigned to you, but be examples to the flock And when the chief Shepherd is revealed, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.

GOSPEL My flesh is true food and my Blood true drink. John 6:51-58 esus said to the crowds: “I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.”

The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him. Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me 7

will have life because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died, whoever eats this bread will live forever.”

GUIDELINE FOR RECEPTION OF HOLY COMMUNION All God’s children are welcome to this sacred place and liturgy. The Catholic understanding of Holy Communion as the very Body and Blood of Jesus Christ, as well as a sign of full communion with the and her shep- herds, limits the reception of the Holy Eucharist to those who share our faith and are united in discipleship within the Church. Our brothers and sisters of other faiths, as well as those Catholics who may not be able to receive Holy Com- munion on this day, are invited to come forward to receive a blessing at this time. The desire to do so may be indicated by crossing the arms over the chest.
