PREFACE

The post-Accreditation academic scenario at the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady, witnessed not only an intense desire, on the part of the academic community, to move ahead towards greater heights in the production of knowledge, but also attempts at further institutionalizing quality concerns. Embodied in the following pages is the summary and indexed form of the heightened intellectual activity of the initial year since the Accreditation of the University by NAAC in September 2014.

Every attempt has been made to elicit data, as full and accurate as possible by the IQAC, from the constituent units of the University, both academic and administrative, and this Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) thus produced passed through various committees to acquire the form and content with which it is bound now.

My deep sense of gratitude is registered here to Dr. M.C. Dileep Kumar, Hon. Vice Chancellor & Chairman of the IQAC, who ensured a hassle-free environment at the IQAC and monitored the progress of the quality concerns of IQAC. All credit for the preparation of the AQAR goes to my colleagues at the IQAC, in particular Mrs. Remi K. Pillai, who provided all the office and secretarial assistance; and Mrs. Shamla K.A, Section Officer, and Mr. James S. J., PS to Regr i/c of the IQAC who supervised and checked the authenticity of the data generated at various stages.

2.6 Innovative processes adopted by the institution in Teaching and Learning:

The advanced pedagogical tools and teaching-learning aides have already been introduced in the University to improve the quality of education. The University has recently introduced 50% internal marks/ grade system while preparing the assessment report of students. This approach gives more importance to overall performance and improvement in wide knowledge level of students. The skill and knowledge are being assessed by the teachers under their direct supervision. This of course ensures a teacher-student inter phase which can ascertain systematic growth of cognition and aptitude in students which is a main characterestic of meaningful education.

The mess in students hostels is run by the students themselves, and the socially weaker sections, especially SC/ST students depend on Government grants to meet their expenses on food and accommodation and for remitting their share of mess charges. But unfortunately, the grant from Government is not received regularly and mostly together in six months or once a year. Many a time, this special circumstance would have taken the students into a delicate situation that they were unable to contribute their share for mess. This shameful situation of the students and the unrest thereof were resolved by instituting a revolving fund under the management of the Deputy Wardens of the students hostel and thereby the mess share of these students can be met from the fund temporarly, until the Government grant to the students is received.

6.2 Does the Institution has a management Information System

The University has a system for managing the flow of information. Though it is yet to be improved, the system functions fairly good and it helps’ the administration in decision making and implementing various projects of the University. The hierarchy of the University is a multilevel one. Three internal systems in the University: (1) Adminstrative, (2) Academic, and (3) Financial. After a thorough discussion with the subject experts, students, faculty members and social activists, the proposals are submitted to the Board of Studies, Faculty and finally to Academic Council for approval.

The academic programs are always under scrutiny and assessment to work out strategies for the timely revision and restructuring. The feedback of students and faculty is the main source to initiate necessary changes in the curriculum of different academic programs. The Department Councils meet regularly to discuss various problems including the relevance and effectiveness of curriculum.
