Introduction According to the Brundtland Report of 1987, the term “sustainability” defines humanity’s ability to “meet the needs of the current generation without compromising the ability of for future generations to meet their own”, which means that it represents a condition of development capable of ensuring future standards of living comparable to those of our day. It is clear from this definition that this “human ability” represents a global challenge, which can only be addressed by significant, well structured, and all-encompassing actions. Not only does this vision concern production methods, but it also implies greater attention to the environ- ment as a whole: the energy used, the amount of waste, the choice of raw materials, and workplace health. All these elements imply the need for a holistic approach, in which anthropocentrism no longer threatens the preservation of resources and the ecological balance of our planet. However, considering that the human viewpoint is inevitable, this balance must be re-established and main- tained in accordance with the central position of people, with a view to the quality of life, work, and relations within a fragile and threatened ecosystem. It therefore appears that a new way of thinking is increasingly necessary and urgent at all levels, a process stemming from an aware and shared way of thinking, capable of creating new strategies for devel- opment and coexistence. The project The Sustainable Thinking project will propose, from April 2019, exhibitions and collateral initiatives involv- ing Museo Salvatore Ferragamo in Florence and other public institutions in the city, with the aim of suggest- ing reflections on such an important theme for the future and a shift in paradigm, at least in the world of fashion, art and architecture. Actually, many artists are following this direction. Some of them have focused on the restoration of a more attentive relationship with nature, the use of organic materials, the need for the creative reuse of materials (upcycling), or the relationship between nature and technology; other artists stress the importance of a col- lective commitment to rethinking society as a whole. Architecture is increasingly committed to designing and constructing buildings capable of limiting envi- ronmental impacts and takes into account ecological principles and sustainable development. The fashion industry, for its part, has been aware of sustainability as a positive challenge for some years now, not only through the experimentation of a new generation of young designers, but also through the inno- vative choices of well-established brands in the luxury industry, in order to respond not only to consolidated consumer needs, but also to offer new opportunities for responsible innovation to its selected and interna- tional customers. Research is leading to the development of new ecological and performing materials and to the improvement of production processes so as to reduce water and energy consumption, the use of toxic substances and the generation of waste, which is very high in this industry. For the Salvatore Ferragamo brand, investing in sustainable development means believing that the use of in- novative materials, the bond with the local community, and the attention for the environment and people are key to success. Byssal threads from Mytilus species, which are comprised of modified collagen proteins – have become a veritable archetype for bio-inspired polymers due to their self-healing properties. However, threads from different species are comparatively much less understood. In particular, the byssus of Pinna nobilis comprises thousands of fine fibers utilized by humans for millennia to fashion lightweight golden fabrics known as sea silk. P. nobilis is very different from Mytilus from an ecological, morphological and evolutionary point of view and it stands to reason that the structure– Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported Licence. function relationships of its byssus are distinct. However, the mechanism of their extensibility is not well understood. To understand this mechanism, we analyzed the ultrastructure, composition and mechanical properties of the P. fucata byssus using electron microscopy, elemental analysis, proteomics and mechanical testing. In contrast to the microstructures of Mytilus sp. byssus, the P. fucata byssus has an exterior cuticle without granules and an inner core with nanocavities. The removal of Ca2+ by ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) treatment expands the nanocavities and reduces the extensibility of the byssus, which is accompanied by a decrease in the β-sheet conformation of byssal proteins. Through proteomic methods, several proteins with antioxidant and anti-corrosive properties were identified as the main components of the distal byssus regions. Specifically, a protein containing thrombospondin-1 (TSP-1), which is highly expressed in the foot, is hypothesized to be responsible for byssus extensibility. Together, our findings demonstrate the importance of inorganic ions and multiple proteins for bivalve byssus extension, which could guide the future design of biomaterials for use in seawater. Included have been a number of prints, sculptures and installations incorporating ags, including architectural “houses” in which viewers are literally walled-in by American and/or Soviet ags, as well as a more generalized Flag Full of Holes (1988), which is precisely what the title describes. Wav(er)ing Flag, a suite of six color lithographs that combine to form a 12-foot long American ag, reects many of Acconci’s ongoing concerns, both as it pushes beyond the borders of the conventional print format and as it challenges the authority of ag, deconstructing its symbolic power and complicating its meanings. Here, the text of the Pledge of Allegiance (written in 1887, adopted by Congress in 1942, and to which “under God” was added in 1954) is brought into conversation with the ag itself, breaking down into fragments—literally falling apart—as it stretches across the stripes of this absurdly long ag. Exemplifying Acconci’s dexterity manipulating language and use of repetition as formal and conceptual strategy, the blue text above and below the pledge interrogates the notions of unity, strength, and the freedom “for which it stands.” Words like “fame,” “mad,” “rich,” “un,” and “lie”, are called out as alternate assessments of the nation’s character, while pairings such as “peg/leg” “fag/lag,” “us/just,” “edge/ledge,” and “divisible/die” allude to its vulnerability.

In this stage, byssus for the attachment is vulnerable and easy to break if there are some disturbance e.g. water movement, hence spat easily falling onto the bottom layer which may have various dirt materials leading to the dead of the spat. In the pearl oyster culture spat collector is important. The aim of this study is to study the effect of different collector materials to the number of spat settled, to reveal the best collector materials and the endurance of spat at the collector. This study was conducted in PT Autore Pearl Culture, at Sumbawa island, Nusa Tenggara Province. Materials used in this research were collectors of different substance i.e. asbestos (A), bamboo (B), polyethylene and roof ceramic (D) substance. The method used was laboratories experiment with Completely Random Design by 4 treatments and 3 replications. Data taken were the number of spat settlement, endurance test, and water quality. Data tested with Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and further tested with Duncan Duplicate Regional test.
