CARDIFF COUNCIL CYNGOR CAERDYDD EXECUTIVE BUSINESS MEETING: 3 NOVEMBER 2011 WORLD BOXING CONVENTION 2013 (WBC) REPORT OF CHIEF OFFICER (CITY DEVELOPMENT) AGENDA ITEM: 11 PORTFOLIO : TRANSPORT & ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT Reason for this Report 1. To enable Cardiff to host the World Boxing Council Convention 2013 and approve appropriate budgets to assist in developing the event programme. 2. To attract a World Title bout and Convention which will have an economic impact of up to £3.2m in the city economy 3. To enhance Cardiff’s reputation as an international sports capital and to generate significant global media exposure to promote the city on an international stage. Background 4. Over the last decade Cardiff has built an international reputation for the successful delivery of high profile sporting events, including; the Rugby World Cup; the FA Cup and Heineken Cup Finals, the Ashes Test and the Ryder Cup. Alongside this the city has developed a world-class sporting and visitor destination infrastructure. In recognition of this Cardiff was recently awarded the status of European Capital of Sport. 5. It is recognised that this programme of major sporting events has led to significant benefits for the city economy, including: attracting tourists and the additional consumer spend they bring into the local economy; world- wide media coverage and profile; increased civic and national pride and encouraging increased participation in sporting activities. 6. The World Boxing Council Night of the Champions and World Boxing Convention therefore represent significant opportunities for Cardiff to build on its established platform and to expand into a new events market, with the ultimate aim of becoming a recognised location for major boxing events.

Preliminary Program nd 62 Annual Meeting Being, Belonging and Becoming in Africa Thursday, November 21, 2019 – Saturday, November 23, 2019 Boston Marriott Copley Place Boston, MA Program Committee Chairs: Matthew Heaton, Virginia Tech James Ogude, University of Pretoria Local Arrangements Committee Chairs: Abel Amado, Simmons University Rita Kiki Edozie, University of Massachusetts, Boston Kwamina Panford, Northeastern University Eric Schmidt, Boston University Preliminary Program uploaded July 12th, 2019 Please note: This version of the program is based on data submitted during the original CFP. Updates to Names, Titles, Affiliations received subsequently are not yet reflected in this document. Updated versions of the program integrating these updates will be uploaded to the site approximately every two weeks. The next update of the program will be made available online on July 31, 2019. All requests for revision of names, affiliations, or paper titles received by July 26, 2019 will be reflected in the subsequent version. Program Theme The theme of this year’s Annual Meeting is “Being, Belonging and Becoming in Africa.” While Africa is not and never has been homogenous or unitary, the existence of the ASA is predicated on the idea that there are things that distinguish “Africa” and “Africans” from other peoples and places in the world, and that those distinctions are worth studying. In a world increasingly preoccupied with tensions over localism, nationalism, and globalism, in which so many forms of essentialism are under existential attack (and fighting back), we hope that this theme will spark scholarly reflection on what it has meant and currently means for people, places, resources, ideas, knowledge, among others to be considered distinctly “African.” As scholars have grappled with the conceptual and material effects of globalization, the various disciplines of African Studies have also embraced transnational, international, and comparative approaches in recent decades.

Approval: July 17, 1985 effective: July 26, 1985 BOSTON REDEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY MAY 21, 1985 AMENDED AND RESTATED DEVELOPMENT PLAN FOR PLANNED DEVELOPMENT AREA NO. 18 ONE FRANKLIN PLACE, BOSTON PROPER (Franklin, Arch, Summer and Hawley Streets) Preface: This Amended and Restated Development Plan ("Plan") for Planned Development Area ("PDA") No. 18 is enacted by the Authority pursuant to Article 3, section 3-lA of the Boston Zoning Code, as amended, ("Code") in order to insure that the use, alterations, construction and development of the land and buildings within PDA No. 18 are in conformity with the hereinafter established restrictions, controls and limitations set forth in the Plan. The Authority has approved the Plan as being consistent/.with the general plan of the city as a whole. The basic document comprising the general plan of the city is the "1965/1975 General Plan for the City of Boston, March 1965" ("General Plan"). The General Plan was adopted by the Authority as an interim document containing a statement of the policies and programs which were • intended to shape the development of the City of Boston. Although it was originally intended to reach only to 1975, the basic elements of the 1965 General Plan and its fundamental recommendations have maintained their relevance as a guide to the - 1 - 5/20/85 city's development to the present day. Its precepts and recommendations therefore form the basis for the approval of the present Plan. One of the functions of the General Plan is to provide guidelines for revisions of the City's zoning maps and standards for passing on applications for zoning variances, and thus one of the recommendations in the General Plan was the updating of the new (1965) Zoning Code.
