The Plan

During my early life I always felt a little less than others, as many do I find. I was a little slower in doing my schools work, a little slower in learning to read, and often unable to pronounce words as others my age would. But yet, I always was driven to make my grades, so often with help from friends and some teachers. I also felt I just flat couldn’t communicate as well as others. Yet, I was chosen to make speeches for one thing or another. At times, my mother would tell me I was so pretty, so talented and a really beautiful person. You know how mothers are! I wasn’t sure I believed her, but I loved hearing it and lover her for saying it. And I know because of God’s love and my mother’s believing in me, helping me and hiding me with love, as a child, that I was special and could do almost anything. I learned that I had been blessed with a love from within. And at that time, I couldn’t explain it fully and I so much wanted to share it, even then, with everyone, what-ever it was that was inside of me. As each year of my life came, I thought it would get easier to try to be a doer in one area or another. Wrong- each challenge became larger and harder. They required more effort and skills, but I pushed ahead. For many years, I did not truly know why or how my life was always so full and blessed. Then the other day I sat down and wrote about my faith, which even as a child I tried to live although not fully understanding it, and then it became clear. My joy for life is part of God’s plan. This is what I wrote – he meaning and reason, to me, Jesus came was to make it a little easier by showing us a plan for our lives, by being an example to us, to help us meet the needs of others. He was sensitive and in tune to His people, and He wants what is best for His people. I think God wants us to be helpers, not little Gods – There is only one God. I think I understand that because I know my many shortcomings. What He wants from us is to be the best selves we can possibly and trust in Him, which I have done “most” of the time. We are to see the needs of His children and meet them – be and an example for them as He was for us. We are to meet the needs of people when they ask for help. I mean to meet their real needs – comport where there is hurt, food where there is hunger, education where there is no knowledge. It all seems so simple, yet some continue to search for God’s will. They complain, saying they don’t know what His will is for them. They just keep waiting for the right assignment from Him. I feel His assignment to us all is be a Christian, choose His way. I see His way as love. We are to unite and care for others where they are at this time in their lives and unite by working together. So, think of the many opportunities you have each day and go for it! I can say each day, even as a child, I have had an assignment. Some I took and some I let slip away. But they were there and always will be there. God has gone before me and prepare the way, and H only expects me to fulfill is plan as he planned it day by day. People so often as me where I get my energy, my enthusiasm, and my excitement for life. Before I answer – let me ask you a question. When was the last time you truly gave your all for someone – that someone being God and His people on earth? If your answer is never, you will probably not fully understand what I’m about to say. If your answer is it’s been a while – think about how you felt. The words excited and enthusiastic should come to mind. When you gave your all, the words frustration, powerless, helpless should have left because you felt His power and the Holy Spirit come to you and give the extra power, help and guidance for you to do His work. The Holy Spirit is the power one needs for the cause or the purpose. The only way I can ever have the power is by giving it all to the Lord – then miracles happen – I see them and I’m a part of them. It’s up to you to make your choice and only you can fill your life with the plan He has for you.

My Daily Prayer

Each day I pray to You and take my needs to You In hope not to lose sight of life as it is meant to be by YOU

My First Time

The Christmas of 1986 was the first time A word and verse of mine were put in print and read This was done, just by chance, one might say By an unknown author with an untold story Until the Christmas of 1986

It was then that a writer's dream came true I was so sure it was God's · plan That He alone had put the story in my heart and in my hand And the one who printed it Just carried out a well-planned plan

Almost since birth, I prayed that I might be a seed of His upon His earth That I might be in tune with life and play life well for Him In hopes to find a way to spread His word and serve Him well And reach those hearts like mine in need Where all can know they're not alone

I prayed that through the years I might write another word, a verse, or a story to be shared For I know there's nothing greater to be shared Than the words and news of faith, hope and love for all there is to have on earth and eternally.

A Gift

A friend of mine once wrote a song for me and told of Thee inside of me. I thought I'd love to give as nice a gift as that to Thee And now with love for Thee I can. I know it came from Thee to write To write about the love I have for THEE.

Words From You

I wrote a word, a line, a verse. I stopped in awe - I wrote these words? Was it I, who wrote that verse?

To tell of You, to tell of love – Was it I, who wrote for You? I felt the urge to write much more.

To tell of You, to spread the news, to show the world You're everywhere – My feelings surged and rushed right out To tell of You, to whom, I wondered?

I know not why, I knew You knew Whom it was for, but I must wait. I love You so - to think that I might write a word or two, a line or verse for You.

To think that I might write for You and tell Your world of You That I might tell the joy You bring, the life to life You give.

I know You well, but know so little I know You know the words I don't I know You'll give the words to write.

I know You will, I knew You would For those to read in search of You and know You not I live in awe of one so great, who gives it all.

Do You Know My Lord?

Do you know my Lord? You know He's Lord of all. He's your Lord, too - d id you know? He's the one to know - He loves you so. My life is His and so is yours.

He walks with us in all we do. The difference is – I know of Him. Do you? He is your Lord and you're His child. The time is now to find the Lord.

He cared enough to give His son so we might live And live with grace and joy To share His love with all we meet.

He tells us not to hesitate, pause or wait - The time has come to find Your Lord, the Lord of all.

Him Instead

When one is in touch with the spirit of Christ A vision becomes more true and more clear.

One discovers and one becomes A doer for - instead of against. The most powerful of times is when one is for Christ.

He brings "life" to life with dignity, grace and strength unmatched. He brings to one's face a look that one looks to. A sense of His presence sighted in one's eyes brings others to Him Where the love in one's heart will be seen by many And others will lose sight of you – and see Him instead.

It's A Good Time

It's a good time to pause and think It's a good time to ask for forgiveness It's a good time to give thanks It's a good time to ask for guidance It's a good time to live life, work and play It's a good time to laugh and cry It's a good time to give praise to the LORD.

Learning

Going along under God's curse of being cast from the Garden of Eden Going along with sin Going along with the crowd Going along with the others Going along full of sin Going along obeying Satan Going along with the mighty prince of power of the air Going along in the hearts of those who are against the Lord Going along under God's anger Moving on to

Learning of God Learning of God's mercy and grace Learning of God's son and love Learning of God's undeserved favor to save us all Learning of God's lifting us from the grave into glory along with Christ And learning of His kindness, one can be saved through trusting At last, learning of Christ is the greatest gift Of all.

This Too Shall Pass

How often have we heard the expression This Too Shall Pass?

How aggravated I was when I was young and one would say This Too Shall Pass

How much I've learned since first I've heard This Too Shall Pass

But now it's a comfort to know that through the years, it's true - This Too Shall Pass

How our fear of darkness fades knowing This Too Shall Pass

How wise one becomes with trust within the Lord This Shall Come To Pass

How nice our lives can be with knowledge of His love that promises from night comes dawn and This Shall Come To Pass

How nice to know His love will bring eternal life where we will come to live with Hirn. This Too Shall Come To Pass with “faith."

The Crowd

People gathered in a crowd. They gathered in Your name Looking for a truth - a truth to serve the world: No, a truth to serve those people there, just those very few. Little did they know they were missing You There were so many set to serve themselves or serve only a very few. Little did they know, You were there - You were there in spirit watching them. Then a man stood in the crowd - he spoke so well, so clearly with such wisdom, with the truest words I had ever heard before. But even then, there were those, who would not hear. The feelings stirred, but not enough. The motion made to find the truth died once again. Will we learn, ever learn? Is the truth to be found?

Are we brave enough to search it out or will we always let it go And miss the chance to serve You well - to save another life or two? Will we let You die once again And lose our life here on earth and eternally?

Was your life here on earth for no gain? Have we lost the vision? Do we no longer seek it as we should? I hear that Satan's people speak so loudly - while the Christian soldier sits in silence.

Tell me please - Is it true Satan has a louder voice? Have the Christian soldiers lost their vision and their will? Shall they ever see and stand again? Of course they will - I see it now They only paused to c1ear the fog And draw You near.

Troubled Times

Where to go in troubled times? Where not to waste our precious time? Where to take our cross to bear? Where to get the help for that thorn in our side?

For help, comfort and inner peace I look to our Lord. For help to carry my cross and carry on I look to our Lord. For help I find His mighty hand, which I know to be fair and strong. For the help I need, I go directly to the Lord in prayer - For I know He knows what's best for me. So in your troubled times - seek the Lord. He knows what's best for you, too.

Time

As I stand once more on the threshold of a fresh and new time A shining new year yet untouched or blemished by man I try to review the past year of this life upon our great earth. With, so much dismay, I have seen the most troubled of times And wondered in vain if at first the gift of time so generously given Has been wasted placed in our hands. Have the minutes and hours been squandered away And were there no prints of plans to be found left behind for the future of man? Was it true that life had moved on so swiftly we hadn't had time to do the good things You had called us to do in the time so generously placed in our hands? Had we missed our most precious of time in prayer with You to learn of Your plan And time to be kind to all those in need? Did we just live our planned progress with disconcert and great speed So that we had missed listening to Thee and just did as we pleased and wished so selfishly? I pray that our world can take this new year and take more time in prayer and be closer to Thee So all might spend a day more wisely in service to You And make this new year a planned print for the future of man to be closer to Thee.

Tomorrow

I heard so many speak of being free - dreaming of a free spirited life. I heard of a plea to the Lord - please, please help me and let me live a life free from pain and deep, deep hurt - free from living an average life, But if the wish and dream are granted how will we know how others feel? How will we ever hope to heal or feel the wounds of others? If our eyes have never cried a tear how will we ever know how deep the hurt? If our heart has never been broken how will we ever know the pain one feels? How will we ever know our brother's needs if our ears are deaf to those in need with cries and pain? If our eyes are closed very tightly and never open widely enough to see, for sure our hearts and minds will harden fast. And if we think it be a weakness whenever we are kind we are no longer seeking YOU or trying to learn Your way. If we drop our crosses and burdens, too, and dance through life with no cares and dodge rough roads and dreams to better serve the world For sure we'll spare some heartache and some sorrow, but most of all we'll miss the entrance of the Lord into our broken hearts and the doors He opens for us to a Brighter Tomorrow.

To Help

As I look around, I see such suffering and hurting And wonder what I might do to ease the pain and help. I, too, at times have felt the hurt and wondered Why there are those people that want to hurt. Then I see they are the ones really hurting And I must show the strength that can only be found in You The strength You give to all in time when one gives it all to You. Yes, Lord, I know all must learn You are the way. And that is what I must do to help the suffering and the hurting I must speak and teach and live my life for You.

To Find You Lord

It seems so hard at times to find You, Lord, Why is this so?

I see You here, I see You there, I see You everywhere. I feel You near, I feel You from afar, I feel You everywhere.

What’s hard for me is to stand alone To love them all and share it all, as You did.

I find myself in prayer to You - so sure of You, so thankful, too. But then there are times I wonder why You promised, oh, so much and gave Your life for us all.

I fall so short, I wonder why. You've saved me twice.

Then I hear You say, you are a child, a growing child and you'll find the way. You are my child, I love you so.

Page | 34

SHARING THE JOY BETTY TAYLOR SCARBOROUGH

As A Child

As a child You spoke to me As a child I listened intently and curiously As a child I took Your love willingly and eagerly As a child I wanted more.

As a child I spoke freely, enthusiastically and excitedly As a child I listened and asked questions As a child I searched for You As a child I was willing.

As a child I learned God put all things under His feet and is the supreme Head of the Church As a child it was easy As a child I learned the Church is His body, filled with Him.

As a child I learned He is the Author and Giver of everything, everywhere As a child I learned to love As a child He found a place within me and made me who I am today. Let me be His child forever.

Page | 35

Eternal Love

I once prayed please take me, not my brother -- He has done so much for You and can do so much more. A few days before He died my brother said, "Sis, carry on - Let Christ shine through you." He died and I cried and cried. I was angry with the Lord for quite a while. I didn't understand what was happening - He had served and served so well. Was I ready? Christ had served, suffered on the cross so we might live. And so I am to live and use my time on earth for Him. My brother had done His work and now - The Lord is giving me a chance and an opportunity to love and do His work.

I pray I serve Him well.

As One Leaves

As one leaves this earthly home I have tears and sorrow for the lost I see the need for comfort I reminisce and see the value of memories I see the needs of people everywhere I want to fill the emptiness I want to fill each waking hour in useful ways I want to comfort and to cheer I want to hold You near I see the need to mend man's heart I want to tell the world of You As one leaves I search my soul – have I done what I should? have I told the world of You? have I touched the lives I should? have I shown the love You have? have I done my part on earth? This is Your time You gave to me – have I used the time for You? have I done my part on earth?

Page | 37

SHARING THE JOY BETTY TAYLOR SCARBOROUGH

Go To Thee In Prayer

Again, I come to Thee in prayer – To ask for guidance and direction So I might know what to do and where to go With the word You have given me.

I am not shy when in prayer with Thee For I know You know me better than I know myself.

For sure You are there to answer my prayers When my prayers are prayed with You in mind.

So let us all go to Him in prayer - close our eyes and give ourselves And we'll be blessed and have His direction in our lives.

A Father's Love

A father's love is like that of our Heavenly Father. He loves his children because they are his children and he knows they hold the future as he holds them. He loves each one as an individual. From the day they enter with a life unshaped completely each father is so proud to hear one say, "He looks like you. " From the start he knew there would be a common bond, He loves each child, each one for what they are - A gift created by God. He knows in his heart he'll rejoice to see them grow and hear their voices for a lifetime. He will work very hard to smooth a way filled with courage made from love. He hopes to hear one day, "I want to be like Dad, my Father, The best of men upon this earth."

My Dad And I

When I think of my Dad, I think of Sunshine. When I think of love, I think of the love I had for him. The love between my dad and me was a very special love - There were - The waiting at the door for him to come home The joy I felt when seeing him drive up the street The greetings after long, long days The hugging, the holding hands and sitting close together, side by side, and in his lap The after dinner shows I gave dressed up in his robe as he tried to read the evening paper I would ask with such pride and excitement, "Are you ready for the show?" And as only he could say with a smile within his voice, "It is time for the show to begin and the show must go on." His smiles and applauses came from deep within, I thought. And then he would shout, "Encore ·- encore," several times. How exciting to think he wanted more. And then I'd sit in his lap and we would sing "You Are My Sunshine. " He'd sing a line or two and then he's holler out and point to me and yell, "Hit it Sister Betsy." What a joy this brought - this special time with him. From that time, I knew that I was his sunshine and he was mine. He laid the groundwork for one so young to know time spent with loved ones is time well spent.

A Mother's Love

How many times has one written about a Mother's Love? How many times has one said her love is so special and yet unexplainable? We all wish we could write some endearing, precious words to tell about our Mother's Love.

Each child at times has tried to write, “I love you mom” in a special way using his or her own words. Yet each finds it difficult because her love is so deep and such an unselfish love that's hard to explain. So few know the words to use to express or describe a Mother' s Love. A Mother' s Love is endless, enduring and encircling Her love will be with one when she is gone. No questions asked, it does go on when others forsake or condemn. When your heart is breaking, her heart is breaking, too, and it seems to hurt her much more. She'd give her life to save the life of her child. She loves a birth for she can see the greatness of a life and the possibilities it holds. A Mother’s Love is a God made miracle For only He can create this feeling found in the heart of a mother This greatest feeling, yet unexplained.

A child of mine once wrote about me, the nicest note I've ever read -

“I love my mother. And I know you'd love her too if you knew her. And love to have a mother like her. Then he added – I'll share, she has a lot of love - but she is mine. “

When I think of my mother' s love I think of You my Lord When I think of my mother' s love I think - Of dreams she dreamed for me and we dreamed together Of ways she let me know I was Your child and hers, too Of all she’d id day in and day out for others both at home and away Of all the times she gave her moments just to listen carefully only to me Of all the times she comforted me, when I was confused or hurt by my friends Of all the times she cared for me when I was sick Of all the times she cooked that something special out of love just for me Of all the times she went without so I might have Of all the times she made my clothes and bought those shoes and ribbons to match my dresses Of all the times she rose so early to make sure we had the food for fuel to start the day Of all the times she made me feel I'd made my own rules about when to come and go Of all the times she waited up so we could talk Of all the times she'd sit and cry to hear of someone's troubles Of all the times we'd take in strays and she'd say we couldn't Of all the times she let me bring a friend along Of all the times she said to me don't waste your times on getting even, just work to make it better Of all the times she'd plant her plants and care for them as if they were I. Yes, Lord, when I think of her - I think of You Marching forward, caring for us all -- not willing to give up as yet. A gentle love, but a strength that I, myself, have yet to find or match.

For The Love Of My Brother

He was Your child - He was a boy, first born, indeed Became a brother and a friend Was such a man, but still a friend I watched him date and pick a bride A bride of faith to carry on I saw his friends in doubt as I When the illness came, which was not good – The good was he and what he d id In the name of You and of life He blessed my life and many more You made him special just like You He left his mark, as he left, just like You .

My brother, Paul E. Taylor, died at 34 from Leukemia while coaching at Oliver Wendell Holmes High School. When the Northside Independent School District in San Antonio, Texas, voted to name the Northside Field House in my· brother' s honor, many hearts were filled with joy.

In the best of times So many times on special days My husband gave me nothing.

In the least of times My husband gave me a rose, a card , and some time.

What does this say? The least of times can bring the best of times.

Do You Remember When "Lasting Love"

Do you remember when someone said, “Do you remember when?” “Do you remember when that special Someone said, “I love you so?” I remember when - Do you remember when he looked at you and you at him? I remember when - Do you remember when he touched your hand just by chance and you touched his? I remember when - Do you remember when he called you on the phone just to chat? I remember when - Oh yes, I remember when we met and he tried to talk with me. I remember when I sat real still and didn't answer – because I couldn't catch a breath. I remember then – I knew right then - I love him so. I remember thanking God for air and words to speak. Oh yes, I remember when -

I wondered if he felt the same. I remember when he stole my heart and said, "You'll be my wife.” I remember when we married - he gave his love and I gave him mine. I remember when love seemed blind - I thought he was six feet tall Until my mother said - he's just right, not too tall -- he's just right for you (5'6" at the most). I remember when I thought what a blessing to have found my dream, But I also remember when I wondered if it would last or would we lose it as had some friends And I remember through the years the test was on - We've stuck it out, I'm glad to say even with the ups and downs. And to this day, I remember when in doubt I think to when I knew our love was meant to be And I can say, oh yes, 1 do remember when and thank the Lord for that.

Five Men

Right now, there are five men in my earthly life There have been others in times before That gave what I and others need from an earthly man To bring about the best in one for You.

First there is my husband , who has seen each mood I have And has remained with me Brave man he is - brave man he is He has stood by me at times, I know, With questions in his mind, in wonder and in awe Of whom he has chosen to be his friend, bride and mother to his sons.

Then there is my first born Who listens to me with such a tender heart And without a doubt encourages me Knowing what You have done for me And having faith in what You will do for others, as well.

Then there is my second born And the last born to me Who expects so much from me And yet thinks so much of me,. too. He shows at times how proud he is And stands right up for me When I'm in need.

Let me think - that's only three - Who are the other two? The other two are men of faith Who serve You well.

My minister has helped to open doors for me and given opportunities For me to serve You at my best And always seemed to trust in me And saw the love within I have for You. He has given great support and is understanding of the need I have to spread Your story and Your word to all I meet.

Last, but not least, another man of faith appeared next door - Just by chance you might think But I think he knows, and for sure I know, He was sent to me to be the one Who could truly see You there within And with such joy encouraged me to go forth He sees much more in me than I.

Yes, these are the five men Who have given gifts to me Treasures that were given freely and I shall cherish and hold dear forever. I know You placed me with these five earthly men. I thank you Lord and pray for those who read of these five men That they will have five men and many more in their earthly lives Who will bear such treasured gifts as these five special men.

As Your Mother First Born

As your mother, I was proud - I wore a s mile . As your mother, I knew you were His child and I your earthly mother. I thanked Him for the privilege and the honor, too. And I prayed I'd do a proper job. I watched you as a baby and cared for you. I dreamed of ways to show the world and teach you of your Heavenly Father. I dreamed of ways to teach of love and ways to share and communicate. I thought of ways to tell of life to show the joy of living. I treasured every moment of our lives. You brought and shared the joy and joys you found in life. We shared the bad , the good , the difficult and the easy times (hope for more) . As your mother I watched you grow into a child from a babe, then a boy into a man - I saw you learn to walk with Christ, as a man. As you left to go away for higher learning, I cried some tears - tears of memories, tears of joy, tears of the future and tears as a mother. I know I gave my love and loved my job, I gave my best. I thank the Lord and pray you, too, one day will have such a joy, with such a son, as I.

A Special Boy

Thank You Lord for the special boy You gave to the world You know him well and I know him, too You gave a boy, a very special boy A genius, yes, a special genius boy He is a sensitive and caring boy, one who loves it all and is loved by all He gives no trouble, only wants to live well the life You gave to him But as of yet he finds no strength to do his work or train himself to discipline his time His talents lie in many fields His name someday will be known by those in need and by all His soul and name will make You proud in time You know and I know, too But life is strange and difficult and challenging at times He hasn't learned he has much more than most But not as much as some He hasn't learned to make his luck, to have that faith to cause the best of life It's hard for some to recognize that only those who work and give it all Receive it all - each talent takes a lot to bring to life Where each may see it fill a life, and be shared by all There'll be those ups and downs - he must learn, You know As we all must learn it, too But one must never quit You never quit - You're always there You've never walked away If only he and all could learn to do the same Learn from the past and move ahead so use your God given talents, learn from your mistakes and reorganize your plans When You made our world and sent Your son You showed us how to take each step, each day as He.

MARTI

There have been some girls Who have shared my life and love But then there are those that have a very special spot. The one I have in mind and in heart There's only one of - and I could write a book about her. She was a girl who moved in next door and I met her when she as twelve. We shared and learned a lot from each other. She doesn't know as yet the many gifts she has been blessed with to share. I have watched her grow from a child, to a girl, then to a beautiful young lady and now, a friend for life. When I see her, so many thoughts dance through my mind As if to remind me of life and how fast it passes by - How important each moment we have in hopes for many more. I saw some dreams of hers destroyed and lost, But know for sure one so special as she is spared a future full of hurt And those lost dreams will help prepare her to follow God's plan which can only be the best of life and blessings, too.

My Grandmother

God has said we are each unique and special, Nanny, my grandmother, was certainly “one-of-a- kind.” As the family gathered and talked about Nanny, the same words of description kept coming up – she loved working and taking care of others, she saw the needs of people and tried to meet them, she was a dreamer, and she had a keen sense of humor. If you were to describe her, you might say she was a spunky little character. Her last dream was to provide a better place for the people in her nursing home and to take care of them. Her last prayer was just to be put on her feet so she could do this.

Money and material possessions were unimportant to Nanny. She would give it away in a minute if someone were in need.

Her loves were her family and friends, the outdoors (fishing and hunting), cooking for hunters, and just sitting in the woods watching all the wildlife. Her favorite place was Concan, Texas.

She wasn’t afraid of facing her Lord. She would say, “I’m ready when He’s ready!” She was looking forward to joining Him.

We feel Nanny used her time well. She did her part on earth and lived life to the fullest. I hope I can do the same with my life.

A Friend For Life

At the age of eight, I met a girl and knew she was a special girl. She traveled far but kept in touch. The years did pass so very fast.

She did return still eager as a girl to be a friend of mine - A very special friend of mine. We ran in different circles, But I always knew a friend was there.

We grew to be young ladies, mothers, too – And always kept in touch. To this day of middle life We still share our deepest thoughts – As only Christian friends can do.

There Are Friends

There are friends and then there are those Who carry loads and take the extra steps. They walk along your side with a smile, With a gentle hand to hold until the end.

I met a friend, a faithful friend to be, I knew before and knew so well I knew not where, but knew a friend, indeed. A friend in Christ was she.

I met this friend in middle life, The time of life one needs a friend. I know her well, a friend in Christ, indeed.

A friend unselfish and considerate in all her ways, So full of joy and rejoiceful in her life and friends, where all can see. In prayer she asks the Lord to meet her needs and thanks Him for the time with Him. She loves the Lord and gives her praise to Him alone.

A friend so true, a friend to all, With faith and hope for all in life. A friend who stops for all she meets.

She laughs and cries with all her heart And gives her love without request. At times she tires, but never quits. She carries on in times of challenge With God's love to guide her through.

A lady to all and always a lady of faith, She does so much for all she meets – unknown by most.

She is a light that shines to brighten the world not just for me, but for those in need and friends in Christ And those in search of You.

I pray I, too, can be like she and brighten the world for You. I pray I, too, can be a friend and light the way for those in need and friends in Christ And those in search of You.

My Guardian Angel

A friend of mine is so kind, with such a tender heart. She calls to check on me each time she thinks of me. The thoughtful things she does and the gifts she gives are unmatched--filled with a love so complete. She has given to many and so much, But this one special gift stands out in front with me. It is so very, very special to me-- It is a piece of art, an angel, with a tilted halo. As I view this angel, my feelings stir—in fact my emotions bring some tears. I often wonder, is this what my guardian angel looks like? Does she ever tire? She does so well with me-- She is always there, I know she is. I know she's guarding me without request. I pray she never tires or gives up on me. And what's so strange, I know she won't Because I know she is love, as my friend.

This Lady

This lady started coming to our home in 1968 She was a pretty, clean, nice, and cheerful lady At first, she'd come once a month Then better times came, so she could come twice a month To us, it still wasn't enough So she began to come once a week And even then, it wasn't enough - we wanted more of her

My friends would meet her and say, "Oh, I like her and she does such a great job."- And I would think - if they only knew how special she really is This lady who comes to work so faithfully It's true: -she can make anything shine and truly look like new -she can rearrange things so they look like an interior designer has been where she has been -she doesn't seem to mind - she works for four of us and all our pets -she comes early and leaves late -she also comes as a friend free of charge to do the spring cleaning

But this is not what makes this lady so very special To me, it's the way she lives her life A life of faith which can be seen by all The faith which makes her obedient to her beliefs Love thy enemy, care for the sick, have a listening ear, have patience, be a trustworthy and faithful friend and a wife to be proud of She's a person who's kind to all and will take the extra step to meet a need and to comfort where there is hurt This lady is as faithful to her faith as she is to her friends and her work

For sure she's one you'd want to meet and get to know Because she's one of God's devoted children This lady is a lady of faith This lady is: -a wife -a friend and counselor -a young girl at heart, a mother, too -a person filled with cheerfulness and is soft spoken -a very kind hearted soul with a sense of humor -one of the best workers I know and more honest than any I've met She's a blessing that is so rare Thank you, Lord for Alice Estelle Armstrong, And help me follow her example of how to live a good and faithful life.

A Gentleman

The crossing of paths as fate sometimes would have it The look within an eye - so pure and true The taking of one's time to share The unknown reason of the meeting of these two at first The forming of a special friendship The awaking to see and recognize a treasure, a special gift It was so special to learn from one so rare and so kindly speaking He brought about the expansion of one's mind, heart and soul as he spoke and shared So willingly he shared his thoughts and kind, kind heart

This man I speak so fondly of brought to me Ways to go on in times of sorrow, confusion, and frustration Ways to dream new dreams Ways to establish and reach new goals Ways to form new meaningful relationships Ways to comfort others through difficult times which are so often just part of life He showed me the way one must risk oneself and take the time to give so one might receive the gift The most precious gift to be had in this life Is to receive the reward of God's love from each and every child of God I know a man who crossed my path and taught me this He didn't know the difference he'd made at the time But I know in time he will - this gentle, gentle man.

Lawrence

I knew a man who stood so tall - He walked with pride And spoke so softly - A person one would not forget. He was a gentle man -- The kind who only showed the world There's more to man than meets the eye, And shows the worth of man is more than money held by hand. He was a man with many talents. There was a depth to him that drew one near -- A depth and warmth that moved and filled one's heart. He was a man within a man That blessed and comforted all who knew him well. He was a man who touched so many, not only old but many young as well, with the spirit that filled his life. He showed the greatness of a man. He was a special man, whom I myself shall pray to join. He was a special man, whom I myself shall not forget, But thank the Lord that I was blessed to know him well as many did. He was man, a boy from God alone – A special man, I thank the Lord. I only pray he knows his words of kindness shared with me were everything. I thank the Lord for Lawrence Jones.

Lawrence was a black man who stood 6’ 4”. He worked as a custodian at Colonial Hills United Methodist Church in San Antonio, Texas. His life was taken in a car accident in front of the church in November, 1986. The loss was great for many.

Stranger

There she was, just walking there. Before I knew, I was walking there, too. She was alone, in need of You. I saw You there, I know I did. We talked. She smiled -- I smiled, Then she cried and I cried, too. I touched her hand and she touched mine. We walked - we talked. I saw you there, I know I did. We felt so close, I felt You there. She was a stranger in the street in need of You, I know. She was so frightened, so scared, and had nowhere to go. Her suffering and her pain were all about. Her dress was poor, she needed more. I saw You there, I know I did. Her eyes were blue, no brown - Her eyes were Yours, I know they were.

She shared her soul, I thought of You. I felt Your hand, I feared no more. The search for You, in need no more. I found You there, I fear no more.

Christmas Eve Travelers

On Christmas Eve we stayed in town and looked for You. The search was on, we prayed for You. The trees were up and people, too. Were You there, among the crowd, hidden there?

We walked the streets and checked each store. We searched the floors, the search was on.

We felt You near, we checked some more. We heard You there - we just believed, we felt You there.

On Christmas Eve, there was a crowd. Three times and more the Church was filled. They, too, were there in search of You. The air was Yours, so fresh, so clear. We left the church to journey home. The time had come to share our family gifts and gather around our tree. The ride was short, there was a stop. We saw You there, we do believe.

Two travelers on the road, a load they had. We gave them food and shelter, too. Or were they You? We do believe.

Scrolls On A Christmas Tree

It started in a Senior High Sunday School Class, a unique, unusual class which had a special tree at Christmas. A youth or a member of the Church would acquire just the right tree, either by cutting one in the woods or purchasing one from a lot.

Then the first Sunday in December, the tree was put up. Each youth helped decorate this very special tree. First, a star was placed at the top of the tree, and then the lights were gently placed on its precious limbs which seemed to reach out to everyone in such a mysterious, loving way. Perhaps the tree knew what was coming and its great responsibility. I really don't know. But then the lights were turned on and the class was reminded the lights on the tree were to help light the way, not only for this class, but for the world as well.

In this most blessed and unique Senior High Sunday School class, we all felt the warmth from the lights which seemed to set the mood for the true decorating of the tree.

Following the lighting, each person was handed a small piece of white paper and a pen with a little piece of colored ribbon: red, symbolizing blood; white, symbolizing purity; or green symbolizing growth; and a hook, symbolizing the possibility of getting caught up in their faith. The next and most important step was the making of their own personalized decoration. Each one was their gift to Christ for the betterment of the world. When finished, the pieces of paper were rolled up and tied to look like tiny scrolls and placed on the tree. Can you imagine the sight -- 60 to 80 notes all over the tree, tied with the various colors of ribbon? It was beautiful, but remember it was covered not only with the notes, but also with the lights. What a wondrous sight!

The uniqueness of this tree came from the messages which were born in the hearts of the youth. Even a short note took a little time to create as each of them had some soul searching to do in preparation. The note was to contain three ways the youth themselves could serve the Lord in their family, help a friend, the Church or the community. It couldn’t be the giving of money to a charitable organization. It had to be something they could work on during the holiday season and the coming year.

They were to be an action Christian, not only improving themselves, but improving the place around them and relationships between mankind. As these most important notes were placed on the tree, we all sang Christmas carols. It was a sight the world should have seen and shared and participated in.

But as everyone knows, the tree was touched, bumped and at times, neglected just like people. Some of the scrolls fell off the tree and were misplaced, as people often are during their walk-through life. But most hung on – and those were the ones who made the differences, saw and share in the blessings and the miracles. They walk through life with Christ and live the true meaning of Christmas

I think the tree was a special tree, a true tree for Christ, a real tree filled with ways to live a real, alive, and true life; a way to show the world Christ’s love was born, did not die and will not die.

The youth followed Christ’s example, wrote messages the way He did in His book, the Bible, to guide us. Let us each learn from the example of this class and create our own scrolls

Class

As I leave a class, I taught for You, I wonder if they learned of You. Had I planted the right seeds? Did they learn the glory of Your love and undeserved grace? Did they see and feel You in them? Did they see a part of You in me? Do they know they must go on with love and prayer and study, too? Did they learn the power of Your hand and of Your love? Do they know the joy You offer? Do they know the love we shared is of You, A love unending and unfailing? Do they know You make the plan? Do they know persistence is the key to finding Your will and Your plan? Did they know Your love is what made them what they are today – brothers and sisters encircled? Yes, they know. I know they know the message well, and they, too, will spread Your word and spread it well.

She Is A Star Upon Your Earth

I wrote a verse about a Sunday school class I taught, But, Yet never mentioned anyone by name as they taught it, too, and taught so much. It's hard to choose just one or two to write about But I know I must write of this girl. The girl I've picked I have watched for years -• I knew not why and did not know at all at first. I called her once to come to class. I called her twice and she appeared. She was a girl so full of life - just looking hard to find-a plan to fill her life for You. A jump she took - no hesitation in her step To help this class to reach each youth they knew and those without the knowledge of Your love. Our friendship grew as if it were planned by You. It was as if the Holy Spirit guided us as one. We studied faithfully Your Book of Plans. She wrote her first song for You my Lord. The light within her guided me, this class, and each student. The class itself grew, oh, so fast – She thought because of me. But it was she who showed the youth The love of You and what You do To help and guide one through. She was only one - but just as You that's all it took – Just one to light a candle, plant a seed Just only one, if only all could learn from her. It truly takes just only one to share Your word - the news of You You alone can bond Your children with a love that’s mending and unending.

From Out of Town

From out of town a pretty girl appeared She joined right in our class for Thee, with a heart wide open for us all There was no problem of her fitting in – you could tell she felt right at home.

Our eyes would meet as I led the class for You, my Lord Her eyes would smile and give such comfort So many youth and adults would speak so well of her, it made. me proud of her.

From the start, I knew a treasured friendship with this girl was there to be for me and many others Then I learned we both were born in February - in different years, of course.

I thought that was the reason for the closeness that I felt for her But now I know it's You my Lord that brought the closeness of a love between a leader and a student unending and encircling. This special friendship is blessed by You.

Girls

Through the years students have come and gone - The there were those who have stolen my heart, Some have been so filled with Your love and other are still in search of You. There are those who have studied You and Your words so well. I now think of three young women all so different in their ways Although, I know they are very special children of Your love.

One girl is a beauty both from within and outwardly, too. She is so willing to give and to be a part of life - To carry her load and another’s, too. share one's happiness, yet care enough to cry with you in times of sorrow. She is unique -- this child of Yours. Any mother would be proud to be her mother, too.

Then there is one with depth unknown by most -- not even her friends have seen it yet. She is a quiet little girl -- yet she has so much to give and say. Her eyes are so true -- so willing to expand and grow, with such desire to share it all With a will to serve You well.

And then there is a girl who came to class and stood way back for quite a while She listened carefully and read her Bible and asked some questions of the Book. She stood afar for at least a year and Then one Sunday as we met, she hugged me tightly and said, "I love the Lord and I love you, too."

To this day these girls I know can write for You and share a love to make our world a better place. I am so thankful to have been one of the many who have shared some time with these very special girls.

For Us To Fly "Angels"

There was a class which met each week It started small and met by choice Each week it grew and we rejoiced We smiled and hugged each week we met The trust we formed brought warmth and many more We shared so much it gave us faith to hope for more

But there were those that grew concerned The class was not enough I think they feared the fellowship Which was so open, so free and for all, Not just a few selected ones

It caused such unique relationship To come about not understood by all It was as if we each were an angel with only one wing And when we gathered, we embraced each other And then we could fly

I think those few forgot God sent Christ Who taught first of fellowship Where we could learn to share And form a trust where we could care Then form a love to teach His love Where we would know when He embraces us With friends He makes it possible for us to fly.

A church's love A family's love A friend's love

These are God's ways to show man God's earthly love.

I remembered when we met and I was scared and they were, too, Because I'd married their middle boy and he was the first to take a wife I was thankful they had a boy named Sam they made a Christian home for him they let him be a dreamer of many dreams they let him have his dogs which taught him to have a tender heart they had taught him well to work and how to carry his load

Oh yes, we had to work to join two families My prayer is that I've made them proud And someday my daughters-in-law will be proud of their in-laws and call us Mom and Dad

I thank you Mom and Dad for your middle boy.

The Tree

There was a Christmas tree I planted when it was young and so in need My friends all laughed and asked, "Was it in the back of the store and on sale?"

My husband saw the need in me. He knew how badly I wanted this little tree to grow into the best it could be. I watched my husband give it extra care. It grew so fast -- faster than most of its kind.

The beauty of this tree brought joy not only to our home But to passersby as well. My friends would say, "It was your faith that brought such beauty to this tree." We decorated it each year.

It’s last Christmas here with us Was a very special one - it was the most beautiful one of all. The tree had grown to be three stories tall And it stood more majestically and taller than most we saw.

This tree taught me well that life and death are in Your hands But with extra tender care and love we can help each other be our best while here on earth.

The Duck “God's Love”

My son and I drove down a busy street in town when we spotted something ahead. We thought at first it was a dog or a cat that had been hit. Then we saw it was a duck crossing this busy street by foot, not by wing. No one had stopped and it was obvious the duck had been hurt. The traffic was heavy and fast - I think people were late to their next stops. I rushed right by - knowing I would return. But when I turned around and stopped at the spot where we had seen the duck The duck was gone! I called this duck - "Here duck!” I knew, I knew not how. An officer stopped and offered to take me in. A kind soul he was and told me straight out that If I did not find that duck and find him right away And be on my way - that for sure he'd take me in. I was scared and I prayed very hard for help to find that duck. I knew this duck was hurt and needed help. The officer offered to take my arm and guide me to his car. Thank heaven the duck spoke right up. I picked up the duck and thanked the officer for the scare of death he had given me. I packed this duck across the street and placed him on the front seat next to me in my car. Until this morning I never knew what I had learned and I must share. When helping one, so often people going by mis understand or just plain don't understand one’s course of action But they will when they find Your Love. Your Love is so great - it is for both man and beast And one must stop along the way to help and share love to know Your Love.

His World

His world is filled with such beauty That some will never see.

The mystery of the trees, streams and grasses all about us The fields of flowers in the spring Each flower which calls the bee so very small The ducks swim upon the natural ponds and lakes With all their carefully selected feathers placed perfectly to make a beauty unmatched by man The excitement of seeing a flock of birds flying overhead knowing they know where they are going better than I

How could one not want to live, see and hear it all? I'll never know, because as I rise each day, I thank the Lord for life and His world Each one a piece of art formed from a tiny seed with a love so special one cannot explain.

A Winner

To be a winner you must participate – Say yes to life and say I can and I will To win a race, first one must run A runner is a winner A winner is a doer A doer is a dreamer Together a dreamer and a doer accomplish And always sees new opportunities from where he stands The key to being a winner is to be a doer of life Filled with love, to give love, Whether you win or lose the race you ran, You must know you gave your best. You've walked away with more just for entering that race – Perhaps you've met a new friend, created a memory or had a worthwhile experience, You know you gave away some love along the way as you ran. That's what makes a winner, a dreamer, a doer and a giver

Run that race!

Precious Time

Do you know the value of your time? Po you know how precious time is here on earth? The quickness of life often goes by unrecognized. I have lost my dad, my brother and some friends I hope to meet again. The quickness of their lives was faster than I had hoped But because of the quickness of their lives I pray I've learned to live my life this day and each day to the utmost. There was a time, I was told, "You are so very ill." At first, the anger of it all came rushing forth. How dare you take my time! Then I realized the time was His And I said in prayer to Him, "I haven't done all my work for You.” He knew that well - He knew I hadn't done all my work for Him. I think that's why He gave me life to carry on So, I might finish my work for Him And start anew with enthusiasm for each day. He knows us all so very well And does what' s best for each of us. May all your hours be full for Him.

Making A Better Way Laying Stones

So often when a problem or trouble comes about We rush in so willing to overlook our own faults And claim we're free of blame. We attack and try to put the blame somewhere else or on someone else Never facing what led to the problem. What exactly got us where we are And why would another act or react in such a way? If we're hones there are stones that have been laid leading to these actions and reactions. What's important is to see it as it is And lay some new stones leading to a better place. This includes not twisting one's mind and Listening carefully not to catch a mistake or a lie But to hear the needs within that hurting someone so we may help. We want to recognize the cries within, all of those who are involved. With love, honesty and new direction the new stones laid can be The making of a better way and place. But we must step aside And give each one room to lay their own stones and take our space to lay our own. We must each recognize and face the consequences Brought about by each stone we lay. I pray we lay each stone carefully and with a tender love To better His world and not destroy or overlook. This is my prayer.

Giving Thanks

As one walks through his life So often one begins to take it for granted - The getting up before the others for some quiet time spent with Thee The time spent caring for pets Some struggles in our efforts to bring our loved ones closer together The watering and caring of Your plants, trees and flowers, too Some fighting to survive financially The planning of the day - what to do and what to scratch from one's list And on and on ...... And then some accident, illness or loss of a friend brings us to our knees And makes us more aware that what we need is a closer walk with Thee I prayed for years - for many years And then I changed my prayer Now I pray that I have a childlike faith And keep in mind the key to life is living and giving thanks for it.

Our Country “America”

Some people many years ago dared to dream a dream a dream to find and form our country where we live. I feel those people are our country and the spirit that we have and dare to call our own. They cared enough to lay a plan for this great country filled with hope where we might live. They fought in wars of past, in hopes of peace where we might live. They fought that we might have and the freedom they so desired. They fought in many ways and never lost the dream.

Some came from around the world in search of dreams of beauty, freedom and riches for a good life. I’m sure their dreams were first in prayer to You for guidance to this land. They came and built their churches, homes and businesses. Just think where we would be if they had not had their dream of this great land. They cared a lot to come ahead and build this country where we might live.

I thank You, Lord, for those who came before and laid the plan So we might live a life so full of choices to share this dream and live in a land of plenty. It was You who planned and laid that plan and brought us here. I feel it was You, God, who made this land – brought us here to this land of opportunity to show the world a way to live.

This happened in our land in which we have a way of life unmatched as yet by any other country. We ask our blessing to help us grow and keep our country as planned by You and our ancestors. Let us take this time to our thanks to You for those You sent before that we might have our country Where we can live and show the world Your way – To live and plan for those to come.

Wars

A war has come and some of those involved were either hurt, scarred, or even killed. But now, the time has come to make the peace - We must learn from those horrible scars and stop the wars among friends, homes, churches or the countries in this world. Surely, we can see the damage we have done. Why don't we stop and let Your love mend man's heart? It's hard at times, but we must learn to take what's offered by mankind And fight to be the best we can. Help us, Lord , model life as You did when on earth. Help us do as You and model life at its best. I pray I never lose sight of You Or lose sight of Your love. This is my prayer.

The People

Oh, how l wants - To be Your light - To tell the news You'd show the way - You are the way. To walk and spread the news that You have died for us, so we might live. The people whispered in their hearts and behind my back. They said, let's have some fun and have her in, to tell the news. They pretended to be sincere and sat and listened carefully With no intent to do Your will.

They talked so sweetly about You, Lord, with no heart to do Your work. I felt they thought I was entertaining Like one who sings a lovely song or plays a lovely tune. They heard the news, the words of Yours with no intent.

When troubles come, they too will need Your word. They then will search for You. They then will learn Your word and tell the news. They, too, will do Your will and You.

A Way To look To the Future

I've heard some people say there is no future, Ana some people ask me why I make plans each day? These same people tell me the plans I make won't see a future. My question to these people is, "How does one live each day without a plan for the future - A way to look ahead and live today?" It is so clear that's why God sent and gave His son.

He was here and made a plan to show us how to make our plans So, we might have a way to live each day and look ahead. That's His future.

He gave His life so we might learn to live an earthly life And know that there is hope and a way for the future.

If we will learn of Him, choose His way And have the faith, He'll care for us. Then we will know for sure He has gone ahead So, we may have eternal life with Him.

Faith And Family

I only wish the very best for my faith and family, But wishing is not enough. I have found you've got to lay that groundwork very carefully and early on Because others will put you, your faith and family to the test.

The groundwork is modeling our lives after Christ. It is the key to having that love of faith and family. I found it's truly up to Mom and Dad to lay that groundwork in these times To meet the world and keep our faith and family. We have the job - the greatest job of all - To lay that groundwork with powerful tender love and discipline. If there's to be a future of faith and family We must be strong for all to see to keep our own faith and family.

"Only If" And "If Only"

Let us not live with "only if” and “if only” and waste our lives

"Only if" I had the time to call or write a note "Only if" I had helped that traveler on the road "Only if' "I had bought that small gift of thanks to give to a friend "Only if" I had made that new acquaintance a new friend "Only if" I had taken the time to laugh and cry with a friend "Only if" I had tried to live Your way "Only if” …

"If only" I had made that call or written that note - just then that person would have known the love I had had for them "If only" I had helped that traveler - just then he would have known of You "If only" I had bought that gift or token, oh, so very small - just then I would have felt the joy of giving “If only" I had made that new acquaintance a new friend - just then I would have known the value of a person and the comfort found in sharing "If only" I had taken the time to laugh and cry with a friend - just then I would have known the joy of caring "If only" I had tried to live Your way - just then I would have found the gift of life "If only" we would learn to come to You to find our plan for life "Only if" or "If only" I had learned of You before I died and had You upon my lips and in my heart, Then I would have known the joy of eternal life.

From A Child 'Words'

The words spoken to a child are never wasted words - Whether they be from a friend or foe, parents, pastor, teacher or passerby. Each word is always taken in and treasured more than one will ever know, Then placed upon a special stack of words to build a soul - a life in hopes to light the world - To build a world of loving people to show the greatness of God's will.

But then there are those words which tear one down and cut one deeply. You know those words that let you down and say God's work on you was not well done. They are those little words that Satan plants and jumps so high when he hears one use them well - Those nasty words which say so much, yet, seem so little. They only tell of the inner spirit that has been crushed And made that person a little person and user of those hurtful words.

There are those words which are good and positive – And then there are those which are bad and negative. You know that one can tell the joy, the hurt, and the life one lives by the words one speaks. From a child you can hear which stack of words he is fed the very most.

So, let us choose our words wisely.

Consequences

Consequences are chain reactions. Reactions are realities of life - One follows another and that leads to another, Which makes consequences either very good or very bad realities. Each step of life is an action headed in the future direction of your life. So carefully choose your steps - they are your life.

Your self-concept is a consequence learned from your steps in life - From your closest loved ones and others around you. Just as what you think of yourself, they think of you, too.

And if you walk with Christ The steps you take will have the consequences Of a life filled with grace and love to better the chain reactions. Consequences of life are realities. What you do today - brings tomorrow's consequences, And you may not have another chance.

I've taken time each day to help this idea grow from a dream to a reality. I feel that's what the Lord has done with me. He first dreamed me, then created me, loved me, nurtured me, guided and worked hard on me. I hope to do the same with this gift He chose to pass to me.

I give thanks and praise to Thee for such a special opportunity for me to share with others, and for a gift which has brought such joy to my life and hopefully will bring to yours.

Dear Friends

This book has given me hope of another way to share my story, my love for Christ and his unconditional love for us all.

One of my goals in life is to bring out the best in those I meet. If you share the goal…

Make other glad and proud to be who they are, a child of God.

Let them know they are the best and loved by you.

Show by example, they do not have to be average that they can be among those who achieve the impossible dream with faith.

Teach them that with faith they can stretch their minds and dreams and make the impossible become a reality.

Help them learn that thinking and determination, with meditation brings possibilities to realities.

My you find strength in life to fulfill your goals and keep me in your prayers to help me fulfill mine.

May you future be blessed,

Autobiography

There is nothing about my life that I really have planned.

I have dreams and I work toward them, but the most exciting and important decision I made in life was to be a definite believer in the philosophy of Christ. I think an individual has to be willing to work hard and do whatever job is put before her or him with enthusiasm and faith. I believe a person should accept every job as a challenge. I have never started at the head of anything. I have always started out trying to do the job I have been given, and then I find excitement plus see a lot more in the job than what was there when I began.

I have learned God's plan is the best, and his timing is nothing short of perfect. In my life and writings, I have tried to live and write with a clear expression of faith.

I am thankful for my faith and find myself extremely excited and enthusiastic about it. This does not mean there have been no dramatic ups and downs during my life. It does mean I have found guidance, comfort, strength, and love in trusting the Lord. I feel I'm bursting with the good news. I am convinced my work for Him will reach those it is meant for and will serve a need at this time in the world. I hope it will find ready acceptance. In times like these, the world so desperately needs messages of faith and inspiration to form and guide young people and great men and women, the love for life I have is in the present and looking to the future. Just in case the future doesn't come to be, I pray I take advantage of each day the Lord has given me. I do believe the past created and shaped me to be the human being I am today.

My dream with my writings is to cause people to pause, weigh values, and turn to God – recognize He created the world, gave life and He alone can recharge life. I pray I will always serve Him in whatever area of life I find myself. I hope always to watch for new doors of life to open when one closes. One of my personal philosophies is: "Luck is a blessing, and lucky people have faith and act on it. "This is how I live my life, so I feel I am very lucky.

For example, new opportunities are opening up in my life today. At this moment, in partnership with my husband, we recently purchased B & B Driving School which was established in 1958, and we are working to upgrade its image and have it accepted as the number one school in the city. Plans call for setting up additional locations in cities throughout the state.

The church leadership elected me to serve as one of the four lay leaders in a large and growing United Methodist Church in north San Antonio. have recently served as a member of the Steering Committee and as an Area Chairman for the election of Nelson Wolff, who is the new councilman for District 8 and, hopefully, the future mayor of San Antonio?

In my never-ending quest to improve my personal skills as a communicator, I was involved in a six-week writing course, which encouraged me with my writing.

On March 19, 1987, Sam Cooper Godfrey, from the little town of Burleson, Texas, and I celebrated our 21st anniversary. We have two boys, Clark Taylor Godfrey, in his second year of college, and Zachry Taylor Godfrey, who is a junior in high school. My mother is Alice Elizabeth Patterson Taylor, who is always there for me.

My life began on February 5, 1941, in San Antonio, Texas, entering the world marked with a white "V" in the middle of my stomach with the doctor proclaiming that God had sent me with a message of victory and an end to the Second World War. He said it was a miracle and thanked the Lord.

At the age of three, while sitting in church next to my mother, I asked her if she heard the voice talking to me. I also asked what the word missionary meant because the voice was using this big word. My mother tried to quiet me and said that we'd talk about the voice and the word later. We did when we got home.

As a child, my love for all creatures of any kind or size developed and has carried on through my life. A love for nature developed with the large, strong, graceful tree whose branches so beautifully outreached remind me so much of people. The beautiful and very colorful leaves remind me of experiences which come and go during life.

At a very early age my abundance of energy was recognized and directed into dance lessons until high school. Then I had to make the choice of whether to continue to study classical ballet or to be a cheerleader. Due to the love of my friends and school, I chose to be a cheerleader. Also, I had the privilege of representing my friends in many youth clubs, both in school and church.

When in grade school, the first three years, my family lived on the south side of town. In the third grade I was the only Anglo student and the only one who couldn't speak Spanish. So, I learned very early in life how it feels to be the odd man out. I have a true empathy for the underdog or the person who has less than another.

During my growing years at home, I was protected and sheltered by my family and especially by my brother. We had a special relationship with a great deal of respect for each other and he has been, without a question, a guiding example and light in my life. To help explain how strong our relationship was, I'll recount one evening while we both were out on dates at different locations. I had a strange feeling come over me which guided me to ask my date to immediately and quickly drive me home. I knew my brother was in danger and hurting. And sure enough, he had been in a major car accident in which he had been thought to be dead, but thankfully was not. He only lived to be 34 due to Leukemia, but as a coach he taught others not only how to play a game, but how to live life as well. A few days before he died, he told me not to be sad, that he had lived a full life, and that we as sister and brother had had a unique relationship. He felt our family had been filled with a special type of love and was thankful for his life. He wanted me at all times to let Christ shine through my life. He was without a doubt one of the finest individuals I've ever known. The Northside School District obviously felt the same way because in his honor they named the Northside Field House after him, Paul E. Taylor.

Before my brother died, my alcoholic father lost his life due to cancer at the age of 53. He had a dynamic personality with a heart of gold. He taught me of love and hate; good and bad health, both physical and mental. He wanted me to remember to take the extra step to form memorable memories. Out of concern, he warned me that alcohol was like a snake, and why would anyone stand within striking distance.

Another special person in my life is my mother who has kept me on track. She was and is a lady of strength and patience who taught me to trust in love.

My love for clothes brought me to the Vogue, a lady's store, as a potential sales clerk. Shortly after being hired, I became a model and a telephone voice for a commercial. Then I moved into the position of Junior Department Manager. I was the youngest person they had ever entrusted in that position. Then I was offered the opportunity to be trained for a buyer's position, but I chose not to do this due to my desire to continue my education.

I started my college days at San Antonio Junior College and became a San Antonio Poster Girl and joined a sorority. I felt I had become too involved in extracurricular activities, so I decided to transfer to Lamar Tech in Beaumont and my last years in college were at Texas A&I in Kingsville, Texas.

The jobs I held during college were varied and some unbelievable. I guess the most unusual job I had was being a trainer for boys going to box in the Golden Gloves. The most exciting job was in Austin as an Executive Secretary at the Texas Industrial Commission where I met my husband. Sam and I dated a very short time and were married by a Justice of the Peace in Converse, Texas. That is a story within itself. The chemistry was right, and I knew he was a man with a future and I wanted to be a part of it. He was 31, a little older than myself, and he never asked me to marry him, he just told me.

Then God blessed our lives with children, something I had prayed for as a girl. We had two boys and I had the opportunity to remain at home with them and at this time, I felt my life was complete. The joy and honor of being their mother was and is to this day a blessing. As they were growing up, we played, discussed, d id arts and crafts, went to plays, cooked and enjoyed all kinds of sports and pets. And now, the older one, Clark, is an outstanding photographer and has won many awards. The younger, Zach, is quite the athlete and student. They both have been active and leaders in their respective walks of life. They are also blessed with beautiful singing voices and have had lead roles in musicals. I have loved each and every moment of their lives. At the same time, I stayed very active in .my husband' s activities, the boys' activities in and out of school and in my church with friends.

There were a few years I was thought to be very sick, but God saved me twice. The doctors again used the word "Miracle”.

Speaking of miracles, my second born, Zach, at the age of two was thought to be going blind due to a disease about which little research had been done. We elected for him to have surgery in San Antonio with no success and shortly after we discovered a doctor in Washington, D.C. who agreed to perform another surgery. This surgery also was met with no success, but the doctor walked out of surgery pro- claiming Zach's sight would be fine and asked us if we believed in miracles. And indeed, his sight is a Miracle come true.

The last six years have been extremely busy with family and a Senior High Sunday School Class which I had the privilege to be asked to teach by the students - a class which started with 15 and grew to nearly 100. I have helped choreograph two productions for Colonial Hills Methodist Church for statewide tours of musical productions. I helped elect and have supported my husband as a Northside School Board member and spearheaded a successful campaign to establish a Community Youth Center, at which time I became the Director of The Back Door Community Youth Center. I have designed and completed the interior decorator of the San Antonio Steel Company and others, including our new business. As I mentioned at the beginning, nothing about my life has really been planned by me. This past September I decided to pass the Senior High Sunday School Class to someone else, and the following day, I started writing up to this day, I have written eighty or more writings and one short story which was published in the San Antonio Light on Christmas Day. Life has so much to offer and I am thrilled with the many possibilities of what it yet might have to hold for me.
