Position Description Auditor Interdiocesan Tribunal of Sydney

Reporting to: The The Position: The primary purpose of the Auditor is to undertake the instruction of cases relating to marriage. This involves the organisational processing of cases including quality interviews for clients from within the of Broken Bay. The role of the Auditor is to conduct interviews for the purpose of collecting evidence, primarily in marriage nullity cases. Associated with this work will be preparing cases on behalf of the Presiding Judge. To achieve this the Auditor conducts interviews with clients, liaises with the Presiding judge for a case or the Judicial Vicar and, when directed, provides information and publicity to parishes in the Broken Bay diocese about the nullity process. The Auditor is to work effectively and collaboratively in a specialized ministry serving justice under the authority of the Bishop or his delegate. Responsibilities: The Auditor is accountable for the following:  Conducting initial interviews with persons wishing to establish their freedom to marry in the  Conducting interviews on behalf of the Presiding Judge for the purpose of gathering evidence in marriage nullity cases with the Petitioner, the Respondent, any witnesses or other nominated parties

 Conducting interviews on behalf of the Presiding Judge to collect evidence in documentary cases  Collaborate with the Presiding Judge to prepare cases for the Tribunal  Ensure canonical procedures are followed, appropriate issued and any other instructions of the Presiding Judge followed.  Liaise with clients as required  Typing testimony transcript when and if required

 Fulfil the duties of an Assessor in cases when appointed by the Presiding Judge  Attend and participate at staff meetings, Tribunal plenary sessions and professional development sessions  Provide Tribunal services and support to the parishes, agencies, and volunteers of the Diocese of Broken Bay in a collaborative manner under the direction of the Judicial Vicar  Work undertaken within the Broken Bay Diocese and the Sydney office  A willingness to undertake specialized training including successful completion of the Institute of Tribunal Practice Course is essential

 Clients, parties, witnesses, advocates, experts  Clergy  staff  Staff of the Interdiocesan Tribunal of Sydney  National and International Tribunal Offices Qualifications The ideal Auditor will have: and Experience:  A background in conducting interviews of a sensitive nature with people  An understanding of the Catholic Church, its mission and the sensitivities and nuances of dealing with various stakeholders  Highly developed interpersonal skills and communication abilities including well developed listening skills  The ability to learn quickly and retain new knowledge  High level skills in contemporary computer applications including the Microsoft Office suite  Excellent organizational skills and time management abilities  Experience working with minimal supervision while remaining a team player  A background and or qualifications in an area such as but not limited to: o Law o Counselling o Education o Healthcare o Languages other than English Attributes: The Auditor will demonstrate the following attributes:  A lived personal commitment to Catholic teachings, faith, ethos, values and mission of the Catholic Church  An inquisitive mind and analytic skills  A high level of flexibility with respect to the place of work  Values driven  Ability to manage demands, anticipate and respond to needs as required  Demonstrated commitment to service and a willingness to be accountable for performance  Ability to operate with discretion and maintain strict confidentiality

Performance The performance of the Auditor will be assessed on a regular basis Management: having regard to:  Successful outcomes of the major responsibilities of the role  Achievement of the agreed objectives of any work plans  Service levels and the level of satisfaction, including complaint profile, expressed by key stakeholders in respect of the individual performance of the Auditor and the collective performance of the Tribunal office
