Game Notes Continued

Arrivey has completed 57.3 percent of his passes this season (sixth in the RMAC). If Arrivey can maintain this average, he will finish in sixth place all-time for season completion percentage at Western.

With 363 passing attempts on the season, Arrivey is in fourth place all-time in season passing attempts at Western behind Jason Davis’ 365 attempts in 1996 and Eric Hannah’s 377 in 1997.

Arrivey has found the endzone 11 times through the air this season. This ties Arrivey for eighth place all-time in one season. Arrivey needs two more touchdowns this Saturday to tie for seventh place with Tyler Daniels’ 2009 record of 13 passing touchdowns.

Arrivey’s 30 completions against Western New Mexico on Oct. 9, 2013 tied a single-game record, set by Dan Brethauer vs. Angelo State on Aug. 27, 2005.

Kicking Down Records... As a true freshman, Ryan Winke (Fr., Aurora, Colo.) has made 11 field goals this season, third in the RMAC. This ties him for seventh all-time at Western in a single season with three others. Winke needs just one more to tie Jason Davis (2005) for sixth place in Western’s record book.

Winke has attempted 16 field goals during the 2013 season, sixth in the RMAC. This puts him one field goal attempt shy of 10th place on Western State’s single season field goal attempt record. Wolfgang Taylor attempted 17 in 1972, while Jason Davis (2005) is in ninth place with 18.

Western’s punter Dakota Swinehart (So., Taos, N.M.) is averaging 42.3 yards per punt this season, fifth in the RMAC. His season average ties him for ninth all-time at Western with Jason Davis who held this average during the 2005 and 2006 seasons.

Strong Against the Run... The Western State’s defense is allowing just 120.9 yards per game on the ground. This ranks second in the RMAC and 34th in Division II.

The Mountaineer defense has allowed just 1,211 rushing yards this season. Currently, this is the ninth best season performance by a Mountaineer defense. In 2008 the Western defense allowed 1,236 yards on the ground and in 2000 the Mountaineers allowed 1,319.

In 2012, the Mountaineers led the RMAC in rush defense, allowing 103 rushing yards per game. The Mountaineers also led the RMAC in total rush defense and ranked 16th in Division II, allowing just 1,139 yards, seventh all-time in the Western record book.

At 2.90 sacks per game in 2013, the Western defense is 26th in Division II.

Game Rescheduled... After Winter Storm Atlas forced the suspension of the Western State at Black Hills State University game on Oct. 5, a time has been scheduled to play the game. The game will now take place on Nov. 23 in Spearfish, S.D. at 1 p.m. It will be the final game of the sea- son for the Mountaineers. Western State Depth Chart at Black Hills State

Jas Bains looks to lead the Mountaineers to victory in 2013. The Western State Colorado University Head football Coach is in his third season at the helm.

Bains’ first few seasons at Western have been known for his overpowering defense. In 2012, the Mountaineer defense led the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) in rush defense and ranked 16th in all of NCAA Division II, allowing only 1,139 yards.

After a season as defensive and special teams coor- dinator for the Mountaineer football program in 2010, Bains began his first season as Head Coach during the 2011 season.

While Head Coach, Bains has spearheaded commu- nity engagement projects with the Gunnison County Partners Organization, the Colorado Department of Transportation and Gunnison County youth. The Mountaineers also hosted a free kids clinic in the spring of 2011 and will established Mountaineer Buddies, a mentoring program with the Gunnison Community Schools.

Bains coached the top kick-blocking team in the RMAC in 2010 and one of the top kick-blocking teams in Division II. His Willamette University, where he started at safety as a true freshman. defense was also ranked among the top half of the conference in interception return average and opponent fourth-down conversion.
