This is not a misprint!!!!! Five pages of American Motors cars are pictured in a totally un- expected magazine. C&P’s November 2009 issue includes an article entitled “An American Tale.” It appears that Steven Cole Smith must have thought he pulled the short straw when he and photographer Tom Drew journeyed to Collinsville, Illinois for a visit to this year’s AMO gathering. Smith interviewed Patrick Foster, author of no less than thirteen AMC books. Foster describes the reason for AMC people getting together; “They are all survivors of a huge shipwreck and shipwreck survivors have a bond forever.” Twenty color pictures and six featurettes of six owners and their stories made this article worth a look. It seems even the author left the show field with a grudging respect for AMCs..

Good body, interior Member Profile Tom and Jan Spyak We just joined the club and have been looking for a club with our ‘65 Marlin. My wife and I have become interested in AMCs because we dislike Fords, Mopars are ok but too expensive and hard to find and Chevys are been there done that. We just wanted something different. We bought the Marlin originally for racing but came to the conclusion the car is too nice. Once we are done fixing up the Marlin we may look for another AMC to build for racing.

Although the motor ran great, it has 160,000 miles on it. We are rebuilding it before we have the car repainted and new weather stripping put on. The original 327 is going to be bored .060 over, balanced and a little more cam added to it. Figuring it may need more carburetion, there is the thought of possibly going with fuel injection, but first we are going to rewire it and maybe put in an a/c unit. Jan and I enjoy driving the Marlin since we get a lot of looks. It is funny that people think it is a Charger or a Cuda and ask if it has a Hemi. Parts stores usually ask “A what? What is that?” I have even had arguments with some parts stores about the disc brakes since they claim disc brakes were not invented until the late ‘60s or early ‘70s and tell me someone added them on. Jan and I look forward to being involved with the AMO club once the Marlin is back on the road, showing it off. Coming Events
