David Danholt, lyric

Born on the Danish island of Funen in 1976. Took up private singing lessons with Leif Lauritsen, graduate teacher of singing, in 1996. Went to Copenhagen in 1997 to take private singing lessons with professor André Orlowitz, who then taught David for five years.

Began studying at the Academy at the Royal Theatre (Professor Kirsten Buhl Møller teaching the major subject) in 2002, and graduated in the summer of 2005.

Attended master classes, taught by the singers Dame Margaret Price, Anthony Rolfe Johnson and Andreas Schmidt and the pianists Rudolf Jansen, Helmut Deutsch, Fiona Macsherry and Martin Isepp.

Extensive concert activity – both nationally and internationally. For instance: solo performance in Mozart’s ’’ in the autumn of 2002 together with the Copenhagen Festival , Händel’s ‘Messiah’ at Christmas in 2002 together with Øresunds Barokensemble, and ‘Requiem’ together with Malmö Symfoniorkester in the spring of 2002. In the autumn of 2003, David Danholt gave a solo performance in Mendelsohn-Bartholdy’s oratorium ‘Elias’ and Mozart’s c-minor mass. Other performances: ’Judas Maccabæus’ by Händel in the spring of 2004 and ’’ by Haydn in the autumn of 2004.

In January 2004, David Danholt was part of the Opera Academy’s staging of ’s opera ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ on the Old Stage, accompanied by the Royal Danish Academy of Music’s orchestra.

Performed in Den Jyske Sinfonietta’s Danish première of Telemann’s ‘Johannes-Passion’.

Performed in Verdi’s ‘Aida’, opening performance of the new Opera House in Copenhagen.

In August 2005, David Danholt performed the role of the Fisherman in Stravinskij’s ‘the Nightingale’ on Den Fynske Opera, winning the applause of many critics.

In addition, David Danholt has been singing together with Maestro Giancarlo Andretta in Aarhus during the annual festival week, following which Jan Jacoby, music critic at the daily Politiken, on 7 September 2005 proclaimed him ‘…. one of the coming years’ most remarkable lyric tenor talents’.

For the 2005/06 opera season, David Danholt has been engaged at the Royal Theatre as Eurimaco in ‘Odysseus’ Return’ and as Gastone in ‘La Traviata’.At the Rialto Theatre in Copenhagen, David is in January 2006 performing the part of Don Ottavio in ‘Don Giovanni’.And at Christmas this year, David will be singing in Händel’s ‘Messiah’ in Thomas-Kirche in Leipzig, Germany, together with the Mendelsohn Kammerchor conducted by Morten Schuldt Jensen. In the spring of 2006, David is going to sing Mozart’s ’Requiem’, accompanied by Collegium Musicum, which will be conducted by Michael Schønwandt in the Concert Hall in the Tivoli Gardens.

In the spring of 2005, David was awarded Léonie Sonning Musikfond’s scolarship.

In August 2005, David was enrolled in the Royal Danish Academy of Music’s two-year class of soloists. Tenor
