Abstract The recent recovery of wolves in the Northern Rocky Mountains (NRM) was met with opposition from the ranching communities throughout Montana. This was not surprising, due to the fact that wolves are feared as a predator of livestock and therefore represent a direct economic loss for ranchers that experience depredations by wolves. Wolves are also revered as a native predator that have top down effects upon natural prey species. This in turn affects the web of plants and animals that make up natural ecosystems. This fact, as well as the strong emotional connection that some stakeholders have to wolves creates a tense value laden debate when wolves come into conflict with humans. -
Discovering Moral Imagination Along the Wire. (2014)
SOLÉR, MICHELLE LOWE, Ph.D. All the Pieces Matter: Discovering Moral Imagination Along The Wire. (2014). Directed by Dr. Svi Shapiro. 304 pp. This dissertation is an investigation into the tool of moral imagination in the service of social justice. Supported by the philosophies of David Purpel, Maxine Greene, and John Dewey, this analysis is engaged through six themes examined through the text of David Simon’s series, The Wire. These themes supply a foundation for how we might more thoroughly engage with moral imagination on a daily basis because there is a crisis in our culture around how we value the lives of all people. Themes presented in this discussion are: (1) The idea that everybody matters; (2) A changing notion of truth; (3) Thoughtlessness and banality; (4) Wide-awakeness and not taking things for granted; (5) Asking critical questions; and lastly, (6) People claiming responsibility. Applying these themes to specific textual examples excerpted from a dramatized television serial creates a space to discuss prophetic in- betweenness to interrogate and examine situations of systemic dysfunction and economic injustice outside of a fictional space. Principles of Angels
PRINCIPLES OF ANGELS JAINE FENN CHAPTER ONE Taro lay still, eyes wide, ears straining, an arm’s length from death. There it was again, the sound that had woken him: a shrill whistle off to his left. A moment later, it was answered by two longer ones, away to the right. The sound of a hunt. He stood carefully. He’d spent the night on a mazeway, one of the thousands of ledges lashed and pinned to the vanes hanging below the floating disc of the City. The labyrinth of open-sided mazeways and enclosed homespaces formed the twilight world of the Undertow, Taro’s home. Below him, the early morning light broke the planet’s barren surface into a mosaic of orange rock and black shadow. Taro looked away, blinking to clear the bright after-images of a quick and easy end to his troubles. Gotta stay sharp. The hunters were probably after a meatbaby, but since his world had gone to shit three days ago, he was fair game too. He picked up the pack he’d been using as a pillow, stuffed his blanket in the top and, keeping his back pressed against the vane that supported the mazeway, began to edge sideways. After three steps, he froze. A shadow flitted across the T-junction ahead, where this mazeway ended at another, wider one. Another whistle, closer, but coming from hubwards, the direc- tion the hunter had gone. Looked like they hadn’t spotted him. So he just needed to stop his legs shaking, get his breathing back under control and move off in the other direction – but cautious- like, as this was disputed territory. -

Nat long after that, Rothermel found that he and three other executives of Hunt Oil were being wiretapped by a private detective, J.J. Kelly, and his assistant, Patrick McCann. When Kelly and McCann were sentenced to three years in jail, they turned state's evidence and re- vealed that they had been hired by Bunker and Her- bert Hunt for the wire- tapping caper.
