Pedigree Analysis:

This colt has a beautiful pedigree encompassing a superb balance of speed and stamina influences, strongly based around the proven strengths of elite female family inbreeding (RF – Rassmussen factor inbreeding), combined with the awesome sirepower of Northern Dancer, and of the close relatives Nasrullah and Royal Charger.

* Inbreeding to Champion Sire NORTHERN DANCER is a well recognised strategy for success. Here he is duplicated via his world class sons Nureyev and Northfields carried by Spinning World and by Try My Best, sire of Celestial Bounty; supported by female family inbreeding which reinforces those sires and boosts their prepotency.

* Linebreeding to the Champion Sires NASRULLAH and his three quarter brother ROYAL CHARGER has also long been regarded as a highly successsful pattern, as duplication of full or part siblings often yields remarkable results. Our colt’s sire Spinning World is inbred to Nasrullah 5m x 4m via Nantallah , second damsire of Nureyev and Never Bend , the sire of Riverman (his own damsire) He carries a line to Royal Charger’s great son Turn-To through Sir Ivor, the sire of his third dam. Knight’s Baroness is inbred to Turn-To –via Captain’s Gig (damsire of Celestial Bounty) and Habitat, carried by her dam Lady Sunrise. Habitat, like Sir Ivor, is a son of Sir Gaylord (by Turn-To from the Blue Hen mare Somethingroyal by Princequillo) and the subject pedigree greatly enhances the more obvious female family inbreeding by duplication of this great matriarch. Because Somethingroyal was sired by Princequillo her duplication also boosts the famous Nasrullah/Royal Charger/Princequillo nick created by the presence of the Princequillo son Prince John, in Riverman. Knight’s Baroness carries multiple lines to Nasrullah via his mighty son Bold Ruler , whose male line is represented by Brave Lad, the sire of her third dam, and Orgoglio, the sire of her fifth dam, the elite racemare Mintaway.

* Inbreeding to Blue Hen mare BEST IN SHOW Our colt is bred on the cross of related sires Spinning World and Try My Best, the sire of Celestial Bounty. Spinning World is by the Northern Dancer son Nureyev and Try My Best is a son of Northern Dancer himself, while both share the Blue Hen mare Best In Show as ancestress (as fourth and second dam respectively), tracing to Torpenhow. Crossing related sires such as this can be a very successful pattern and has proven to be especially effective with this family (eg: to name one example, the multiple G1 winning filly Heavenly Show is bred on the same Spinning World/ Celestial Bounty cross as our colt)

2 One of the reasons for the success of this illustrious family (8-f) is the fact that the globally influential sire Raise A Native is a member of it, as are the key pedigree influences (inbred to his own ancestress Padua) and Relic. The hugely prepotent sires Menow and Sir Ivor , who also wield strong influence in modern pedigrees, hail from another branch of this clan (8-g) and thus have a strong affinity with it, while Bold Ruler (8-d) is a more distant relative. In the subject pedigree, the inbreeding to Best In Show is reinforced most prominently by Buckpasser (Menow’s male line and Blue Larkspur on his tail female line) carried by Try My Best, Riverman (inbred to Blue Larkspur 5f x 5f) carried by Spinning World, Sir Ivor (on Spinning World’s tail female line) and the Blue Hen mare Lalun, dam of Never Bend –her dam is by and her third dam is by Blue Larkspur – both members of the Black Toney male line. Lalun also carries the sire Bridge Of Earn (inbred to the Menow/ Sir Ivor branch of the family as well as being a relative) Black Toney also appears in Polynesian, carried by inbreeding subject Northern Dancer via his damsire . Duplications of the more distantly related Bold Ruler found in this pedigree are also very compatible.

* Inbreeding to Blue Hen mare LITTLE HUT Little Hut is an inbreeding subject 5m x 5m in the subject pedigree via her top class sons and half brothers Habitat (by Sir Gaylord) and Northfields (by Northern Dancer). Little Hut is a member of the same family as Nogara, the dam of Nearco – the epochal sire at the head of the Northern Dancer, Nasrullah and Royal Charger sirelines. Her presence therefore strongly complements the inbreeding and linebreeding to those sires. Little Hut and Nogara share as ancestress the mare Kitty Clark. More distantly related but very compatible members of the same family who appear are Man O War ( tail female Riverman and Captain’s Gig; Try My Best is inbred to his son , and to Discovery, by a son of Man O War’s sire Fair Play; War Admiral is the damsire of Buckpasser and also the sire of Mr Busher – who sired the dam of Best In Show ), Unbreakable (sire of Polynesian – Native Dancer’s sire), Hourless (sire of the mare Late Date on the tail female line of Best In Show), Advocate (via Forli) and the sire Galivanter carried by Brave Lad in Knight’s Baroness –he carries two lines to the family and importantly is the son of a Nearco daughter. The sire of Knight’s Baroness Celestial Bounty was foaled by the mare Heavenly Bounty, whose second dam was also sired by Nearco, creating some nice sex balanced patterns with the Nearco male line and with the Little Hut / Nogara family inbreeding.

*Linebreeding to family of Blue Hen mare LALUN It is interesting to note that Heavenly Glow , the super stakes filly bred on the same Spinning World/ Celestial Bounty cross as our subject colt (but without the Little Hut inbreeding), carries a line to the mare Segurana through her dam – a relative of the peerless Lalun, dam of Never Bend. The two mares share the matriarch Sunshot as their sixth and fourth dams respectively. There would be little doubt that this family affinity contributed to the outstanding success of the mating. Our colt also carries a line to this family through the mare Julie, dam of the sire Daybreak carried by Knight’s Baroness . The family link to Lalun is not as close up but is definitely there and will exert an

3 influence. The sire , who appears on the tail female line of RF subject Best In Show , is a relative of Lalun, and this is a nice connection. Lalun’s sire Djeddah by Djebel is a male line descendant of Ksar, who is inbred to Lalun’s own family via the sire Upas. Ksar, by Bruleur, is a linebreeding subject in this pedigree via Djebel (sire of Djeddah and My Babu) – he also appears on the tail female line of Wild Risk, carried by Vimy in Celestial Bounty (Vimy has another line to Bruleur via a daughter, his own ancestress). The sire Brave Lad carried by Knight’s Baroness carries Bruleur on the damline of his sire Bold Lad, and Ksar via his damsire Galivanter, boosting the Lalun affinities.

* Inbreeding to the MARCHETTA family . Many duplications of this powerful family create an intense build up of influence in our colt’s pedigree. Knight’s Baroness is inbred to it’s great male representative Turn-To (from the Lavendula daughter Source Sucree ) via his sons Captain’s Gig and Sir Gaylord, while Spinning World duplicates Sir Gaylord via Sir Ivor. Heavenly Bounty, the dam of Celestial Bounty is RF inbred and sex balanced to Lavendula via Turn-To and the valuable sire Ambiorix (by Tourbillon by Ksar – refer Lalun’s family above). Lord Seymour, damsire of Knight’s Baroness, is also RF inbred to Lavendula 5f x 5f through her daughters Source Sucree and Perfume (dam of My Babu by Djebel, by Tourbillon, by Ksar) Another Marchetta family member Alycidon (ex Aurora by Hyperion) is carried by the sire Bold Lad in Tequila Sunrise, third dam of Knight’s Baroness. This concentrated family blood forms a strong pattern of connection to the tail female line of Spinning World, who carries the Turn-To grandson Sir Ivor in this highly influential position.

* Inbreeding to LADY JOSEPHINE family The immediate family of three quarter brothers Nasrullah and Royal Charger which responds so well to duplication. The multiple lines to these two breeding giants are reinforced here most notably by the three closely related sires and Lady Josephine family members Aristophanes (by Hyperion from Mumtaz Mahal, carried by Nureyev) Abernant (by Hyperion’s son Owen Tudor from Rustom Mahal, carried by Brave Lad) and Tudor Minstrel (also by Owen Tudor from Sansonnet, and inbred to Gondolette, the ancestress of Hyperion, carried by Lord Seymour). The meeting of these three sires creates a very strong pattern. In addition Forli , the Aristophanes son who is the damsire of Nureyev, is inbred to the family through Advocate, son of family member Fair Trial . Fair Trial also appears on the tail female line of Bold Lad. Family member Mahmoud , the second damsire of Northern Dancer, is a line breeding subject here – his damsire is Gainsborough, the sire of Hyperion. Also duplicated is family member Badruddin , the damsire of My Babu. The Nasrullah son Orgoglio who appears on the tail female line of Knight’s Baroness was foaled by a daughter of the Hyperion son Sol Oriens, and Hyperion is of course the damsire of Nearctic - sire of inbreeding subject Northern Dancer (inbred to Hyperion’s sire Gainsborough). Hyperion’s wonderful son Alibhai exerts a strong influence as the sire of Traffic Judge, in turn the sire of RF inbreeding subject, the elite mare Best In Show.

4

* Linebreeding to TEDDY The subject pedigree contains a myriad of lines to this amazingly prepotent sire through both male and female descendants. His most famous daughter La Troienne features heavily, as the third dam of Buckpasser (damsire of Try My Best), the dam of Bimelech (Never Bend’s second damsire) and grand dam of the War Admiral son Mr Busher, sire of Stolen Hour (dam of RF inbreeding subject Best In Show ) Buckpasser is inbred to Teddy 4m x 5f sex balanced ( La Troienne and Teddy son Bull Dog) The Blue Hen mare Lalun, dam of Never Bend , boasts three lines to Teddy 5f,4m x 4f sex balanced – as well as carrying La Troienne she is a conduit for the important Teddy son Asterus, and another Teddy daughter Coeur A Coeur - ancestress of the great sire Djebel – a sex balanced linebreeding subject in this pedigree. Riverman, the damsire of Spinning World is an especially potent source of the blood, being by Never Bend from the mare River Lady, whose dam is by the Sir Gallahad son Roman and also carrying Teddy’s son Sun Teddy through her dam. Spinning World’s sire Nureyev carries multiple lines to Teddy – via the Nasrullah son Nantallah who is inbred x 4m, 4f sex balanced to Bull Dog’s full brother Sir Gallahad (duplication of full or part siblings in a pedigree being a proven strategy for success). Nantallah is also inbred to Teddy’s sire, Ajax, while another Teddy daughter Staylace is the dam of Foxglove, carried by Forli. Blue Hen mare Little Hut, an RF inbreeding subject in this pedigree, is a daughter of the Bull Dog son Occupy. The Blue Hen mare Somethingroyal, dam of linebreeding subject Sir Gaylord via his sons Habitat and Sir Ivor, traces to the mare Assignation , a Teddy daughter (her third dam) while Mr Trouble, the sire of Sir Ivor’s dam Attica, carries Sir Gallahad via a daughter. Knight’s Baroness, the dam of our colt is a daughter of sire Celestial Bounty - whose dam Heavenly Bounty is inbred to Sir Gallahad 5f x 5m sex balanced, via his daughter True Bearing (ancestress of Captain’s Gig) and son Black Devil. Black Devil, infrequently seen, is particularly interesting because he is inbred to Teddy’s sire Ajax and reverses the Ajax / Bay Ronald cross which produced Teddy himself – this “mirror” pattern has often proved to be a genetic powerhouse, seemingly an activating force for all related individuals, so the presence of Black Devil is significant. Knight’s Baroness carries the closely related sires Tudor Minstrel and Abernant, both by the Hyperion son Owen Tudor whose second dam is the Teddy daughter Anna Bolena. The half brother to Bull Dog and Sir Gallahad , Admiral Drake , carries no Teddy blood but will naturally reinforce the influence of his relations, as all three are sons of Blue Hen matriarch Plucky Liege. Admiral Drake, by Craig An Eran, is the damsire of Turn-To - in turn sire of inbreeding subject Sir Gaylord. The Nasrullah son Orgoglio carried on the tail female line of Knight’s Baroness carries a daughter of Craig An Eran through his damsire Sol Oriens, creating sex balanced linebreeding to that sire and boosting the presence of Admiral Drake.

*The sires Domino (patriarch of the and Black Toney/ Blue Larkspur male lines), Occupy (sire of RF subject Little Hut ) and Discovery (to whom Try My Best is

5 inbred 5f x 5f) all hail from the same family and strongly interact with each other. Discovery is inbred to his own family on the tail female line. Native Dancer, the damsire of inbreeding subject Northern Dancer, was foaled by a Discovery daughter and carries multiple sex balanced lines to Domino. Riverman, Buckpasser, Sir Ivor, Habitat, Little Hut, La Troienne and Best In Show are especially powerful conduits for this family blood but numerous other individuals contribute. The Nasrullah son Orgoglio who is carried by Knight’s Baroness on her damline is also a relative, and his presence is important as it provides a more distant but telling connection with the North American branch of the family.

* Finally, the dam of our colt Knight’s Baroness has a very unique affinity with his sire, Spinning World . Both are inbred to Nasrullah, and the second dam of Knight’s Baroness , Tequila Sunrise, is aggressively inbred to the sire Gold Bridge 5mx 4m,5m via his sons Golden Cloud, who is himself inbred to the family and appears 4m x3m through his sons Denturius and Galivanter - and again to Denturius (5m x 4f sex balanced through his son Democratie, damsire of Bold Lad and daughter Julie, dam of the stallion Daybreak) – all within five generations .

Gold Bridge sired the Blue Hen mare Rough Shod, ancestress of Spinning World’s sire, the mighty Nureyev, and this connection with his tail female line is very significant. The Gold Bridge influence is one for brilliant speed. Also worth noting is the fact that Helene De Troie, dam of the immortal Teddy daughter La Troienne who features prominently in this pedigree, was sired by Gold Bridge’s close relative Helicon.
