Pedigree Analysis: This colt has a beautiful pedigree encompassing a superb balance of speed and stamina influences, strongly based around the proven strengths of elite female family inbreeding (RF – Rassmussen factor inbreeding), combined with the awesome sirepower of Northern Dancer, and of the close relatives Nasrullah and Royal Charger. * Inbreeding to Champion Sire NORTHERN DANCER is a well recognised strategy for success. Here he is duplicated via his world class sons Nureyev and Northfields carried by Spinning World and by Try My Best, sire of Celestial Bounty; supported by female family inbreeding which reinforces those sires and boosts their prepotency. * Linebreeding to the Champion Sires NASRULLAH and his three quarter brother ROYAL CHARGER has also long been regarded as a highly successsful pattern, as duplication of full or part siblings often yields remarkable results. Our colt’s sire Spinning World is inbred to Nasrullah 5m x 4m via Nantallah , second damsire of Nureyev and Never Bend , the sire of Riverman (his own damsire) He carries a line to Royal Charger’s great son Turn-To through Sir Ivor, the sire of his third dam. Knight’s Baroness is inbred to Turn-To –via Captain’s Gig (damsire of Celestial Bounty) and Habitat, carried by her dam Lady Sunrise. Habitat, like Sir Ivor, is a son of Sir Gaylord (by Turn-To from the Blue Hen mare Somethingroyal by Princequillo) and the subject pedigree greatly enhances the more obvious female family inbreeding by duplication of this great matriarch. Because Somethingroyal was sired by Princequillo her duplication also boosts the famous Nasrullah/Royal Charger/Princequillo nick created by the presence of the Princequillo son Prince John, in Riverman. Knight’s Baroness carries multiple lines to Nasrullah via his mighty son Bold Ruler , whose male line is represented by Brave Lad, the sire of her third dam, and Orgoglio, the sire of her fifth dam, the elite racemare Mintaway. * Inbreeding to Blue Hen mare BEST IN SHOW Our colt is bred on the cross of related sires Spinning World and Try My Best, the sire of Celestial Bounty. Spinning World is by the Northern Dancer son Nureyev and Try My Best is a son of Northern Dancer himself, while both share the Blue Hen mare Best In Show as ancestress (as fourth and second dam respectively), tracing to Torpenhow. Crossing related sires such as this can be a very successful pattern and has proven to be especially effective with this family (eg: to name one example, the multiple G1 winning filly Heavenly Show is bred on the same Spinning World/ Celestial Bounty cross as our colt) 2 One of the reasons for the success of this illustrious family (8-f) is the fact that the globally influential sire Raise A Native is a member of it, as are the key pedigree influences Blue Larkspur (inbred to his own ancestress Padua) and Relic. The hugely prepotent sires Menow and Sir Ivor , who also wield strong influence in modern pedigrees, hail from another branch of this clan (8-g) and thus have a strong affinity with it, while Bold Ruler (8-d) is a more distant relative. In the subject pedigree, the inbreeding to Best In Show is reinforced most prominently by Buckpasser (Menow’s male line and Blue Larkspur on his tail female line) carried by Try My Best, Riverman (inbred to Blue Larkspur 5f x 5f) carried by Spinning World, Sir Ivor (on Spinning World’s tail female line) and the Blue Hen mare Lalun, dam of Never Bend –her dam is by Bimelech and her third dam is by Blue Larkspur – both members of the Black Toney male line. Lalun also carries the sire Bridge Of Earn (inbred to the Menow/ Sir Ivor branch of the family as well as being a relative) Black Toney also appears in Polynesian, carried by inbreeding subject Northern Dancer via his damsire Native Dancer. Duplications of the more distantly related Bold Ruler found in this pedigree are also very compatible. * Inbreeding to Blue Hen mare LITTLE HUT Little Hut is an inbreeding subject 5m x 5m in the subject pedigree via her top class sons and half brothers Habitat (by Sir Gaylord) and Northfields (by Northern Dancer). Little Hut is a member of the same family as Nogara, the dam of Nearco – the epochal sire at the head of the Northern Dancer, Nasrullah and Royal Charger sirelines. Her presence therefore strongly complements the inbreeding and linebreeding to those sires. Little Hut and Nogara share as ancestress the mare Kitty Clark. More distantly related but very compatible members of the same family who appear are Man O War ( tail female Riverman and Captain’s Gig; Try My Best is inbred to his son War Admiral, and to Discovery, by a son of Man O War’s sire Fair Play; War Admiral is the damsire of Buckpasser and also the sire of Mr Busher – who sired the dam of Best In Show ), Unbreakable (sire of Polynesian – Native Dancer’s sire), Hourless (sire of the mare Late Date on the tail female line of Best In Show), Advocate (via Forli) and the sire Galivanter carried by Brave Lad in Knight’s Baroness –he carries two lines to the family and importantly is the son of a Nearco daughter. The sire of Knight’s Baroness Celestial Bounty was foaled by the mare Heavenly Bounty, whose second dam was also sired by Nearco, creating some nice sex balanced patterns with the Nearco male line and with the Little Hut / Nogara family inbreeding. *Linebreeding to family of Blue Hen mare LALUN It is interesting to note that Heavenly Glow , the super stakes filly bred on the same Spinning World/ Celestial Bounty cross as our subject colt (but without the Little Hut inbreeding), carries a line to the mare Segurana through her dam – a relative of the peerless Lalun, dam of Never Bend. The two mares share the matriarch Sunshot as their sixth and fourth dams respectively. There would be little doubt that this family affinity contributed to the outstanding success of the mating. Our colt also carries a line to this family through the mare Julie, dam of the sire Daybreak carried by Knight’s Baroness . The family link to Lalun is not as close up but is definitely there and will exert an 3 influence. The sire Colin, who appears on the tail female line of RF subject Best In Show , is a relative of Lalun, and this is a nice connection.
