After tough times in the early 2000s, the airline faced the future. NOTE: The case hints but does not state that Cathay faces choices and challenges in China, and must decide to remain a premium carrier or somehow get into the low cost carrier arena. However, there can be some differences between airlines. This report details what airlines in Northeast Asia currently require. Major carriers Airline Seating adjustment Air China Passengers should wear a mask, whether at the airport or on board a flight. ANA1 Customers are asked to wear masks or facial coverings when traveling through airports and on board ANA’s aircraft. Passengers not wearing a mask may not be allowed on board. Exceptions will be reviewed based on age and other health conditions. Asiana As part of its Star Hygiene Safety Commitment, Asiana requires (or recommends) passengers wear face masks before, during and after the flight. Passengers may be exempted for age or medical reasons. Cathay Pacific Face coverings are mandatory at Hong Kong airport and throughout Cathay Pacific and Cathay Dragon flights. China Southern2 Since the end of January 2020, passengers have been obliged to wear a mask in the airport and on board China Southern aircraft. Japan Airlines (JAL)3 Passengers are required to wear a face mask. Any customer not wearing a mask may be denied boarding. Exceptions may be made for children under 2 years and passengers with medical conditions that would be complicated by wearing a mask. Korean Air Passengers must wear a face mask at all times. -

Noise Impact 7.1 Introduction 7.1.1.1 This section presents the assessment of potential noise impact associated with the construction and operation phases of the project, which has been conducted in accordance with Annexes 5 and 13 of EIAO-TM as well as the technical requirements stipulated in Clause 3.4.5 and section I of Appendix C of the EIA Study Brief (ESB-250/2012). 7.2 Noise Legislation, Standards and Guidelines 7.2.1 Aircraft Noise 7.2.1.1 The principal legislation for controlling aircraft noise in Hong Kong is the Civil Aviation (Aircraft Noise) Ordinance (Cap. 312) and Civil Aviation (Aircraft Noise) (Certification) Regulations. In line with the international practice in phasing out noisier aircraft, the Ordinance stipulates that all subsonic jet aircraft flying in and out of Hong Kong shall meet the noise standard specified in Chapter 3 of Annex 16 Volume I, Part II to the Convention on International Civil Aviation. The Regulations require all subsonic jet aircraft departing or landing in Hong Kong to be certified in accordance with international established procedures. 7.2.1.2 On the other hand, the EIAO provides the fundamental legislation with established noise criteria for evaluating noise impact of designated projects and these include aircraft noise. Annex 5 of the EIAO-TM published under the EIAO sets out the criteria for evaluating the noise impact of designated projects. It prescribes the appropriate noise metrics and noise planning criteria for various types of noise sources and land uses. -
