– 60 Years Wi k i e: Imag The Morris Oxford Farina was one of a series of models, styled by the Italian S.p.A. design studio, and produced by the British Motor Corporation from 1959 to 1971. BMC had launched the fin-tailed Farina-designed, four-door, four-cylinder series of family saloons a year earlier, in October 1958 with the Austin A55 Mark 2. It was soon joined by the Morris Oxford series 5, the Wolseley 15/60, MG Magnette Mk. 3 and /Sixty Eight. The Oxford model name had first been used by W. R. Morris back in 1913 after the university town in which he grew up. The manufacture of Morris’ Oxford cars eventually turned the south-side of Oxford (Cowley) into a Morris Oxford Series V thriving industrial area. Like its predecessors, the new Farina- designed Morris Oxford competed with its sibling models as well as the likes of the Singer Gazelle, Hillman Minx Series III, Capri, Triumph Herald and the Vauxhall Victor. All of the BMC offerings were powered by a 1,489 cc version of the OHV B-series engine; the MG and Riley models being fitted with twin carburettors. The Austin and Morris cars were nearly identical but were produced at separate factories – the at Longbridge. Differences in the Morris included some of the chrome and interior trim, and the rear lights. Inside, a front bench seat and special dashboard was fitted with speedometer, oil pressure gauge, coolant temperature gauge, fuel 1969 Morris Oxford Series VI Traveller Image: Simon Geoghegan - Wiki Commons

The suspension was independent at the front using coil springs and a live axle and semi-elliptic leaf springs at the rear while the car rode on 5.90 x 14-in. cross-ply tyres. A two- tone paint scheme and a radio were available as options. In the UK market, the Standard version cost £815 and the de-luxe £844, including taxes. In all, 87,432 Series V Oxfords were built.
