By Lori Majewskl It would be hard to imagine a more complete list of fashion names than the guest list for Vogue's 100th birthday party April 2 at The New York Public Library. The event attracted the most noted fashion makers and wearers, from Donna Karan, Jean Paul Gaultier, Isaac Mizrahi, Gianni Versace, and Betsey Johnson, to Chanel's chic, pontytailed Karl Lagerfeld who arrived with his trademark fan in one hand and supermodel Claudia Schiffer, dressed in one of his black and white designs, on the other. This time it wasn't Linda Evangelist* whose haitcolor caused the chatter, but her friend and fellow model Christy Turlington, who decided to try blonde. Other models included Michaela Becru, Beverly Peele, Roshumba, Rachel Williams, and Veronica Webb. Niki Taylor, Cindy Crawford (sans hubby Richard Gere), and Yasmeen Ghouri represented today's elite muses whom Vogue honored by placing on the magazine's anniversary cover. Vogue's first black cover model, Beverly Johnson brought her future model daughter Asasha, while yesterday's cover girl face Kim Alexis left her kids at home. Model Carre Otis, perhaps better Models Niki Taylor and Nadege ran known for her relationship with Mickey from fashion show to fashion show. Rourke than her modeling, showed up after her on-again, now off-again movie star boyfriend. Should've known something was wrong when Otis looked unhappy after a photographer told her Rourke was already inside. The best arrival award went to Matthew Modine and his wife who got out of a pick-up truck, star DB Sweeney came alone. Other guests included Kelly Klein in a short, silver variation of her husband's design that she's been wearing to Fashion Faces every party, and Blaine Trump,'who looked as elegant as ever.

Fashion Week may have been kicked off by the star-studded Vogue party, but the official fall collections were shown last week. The shows brought out lets of noteworthies. Lady Miss Kier and Dimitri of Dee-lite and Alec Baldwin came to the Mizrahi show. Spotted Mariah Carey, Joan Rivers, Beverly Johnson, and Christie Brinkley at Giorgio di Sant'Angelo's presentation an hour later. Celebrities also like to party with the supermodels. As usual, rocker David Lee Roth came to the end of the week party at Rex. Model Helena Christensen arrived with her beau, INXS singer Michael Hutchence. But NEXT Models' Hale House benefit at Laura Belle's proved to be too much for Saturday Night Live's Dana Carvey, Chris Farell and Chris Rock, who came upon the party's emcee, John Lovitz' request. The threesome left just moments after they went in. For Farell, it was a particularly tragic experience. "They fondled me!" Farrell said, shaking. "They man-handled me. They pawed me." "Yeah, that's the problem," sympathized Carvey, "Women love him." Wondering where Carvey's Wayne's World co-star was? "Making sweet love to his girlfriend," said Carvey. They're too sexy... SNL's Dana Carvey and Chris Farrell didn't have too The charity auction, which much fun at NEXT Model's benefit at Laura Belle. included designs byAnne Klein, Ralph Lauren, Anna Sui, Donna Karan, Michael Kors, Todd Oldham, and Calvin Klein, among others, raised $50,000 for the Hale House organization which provides for homeless and drug addicted children.

Yes, the supermodels are beautiful and glamorous. And they do wind up with handsome actors and rock stars as boyfriends. But they lead very busy lives. During fashion week the models had up to three shows a day, all within two hours of each other. All that and not a wrinkle... The stars of the runway this .season were 17 year-old Niki Taylor, Montreal native Yasmeen and Parisian Nadcgc. Notice any significants missing? Claudia Schiffer, Linda Evangelism, and Christy Turlington reportedly felt the New York shows didn't pay enough. Remember, Evangel is ta docsn t wake up for leas than $5,000 a day.

A Peek at Fall As usual, the designers are one step ahead of us. While we're all enjoying the sunny, warmer weather and planning a lighter, brighter spring wardrobe the fashion world is celebrating autumn with their new fall collections. Famed Feminist Gets Political on Arkansas Traveller

By Brian Hayes As her video, "Come Along Way" is being shown during a small press conference at the Shocking Material Hard Rock Cafe, Michelle Shocked stands in the back of the room. The video depicts Shocked dressed in a leather jacket and aviator cap, riding a motorcycle, which is uncharacteristic of her usual attire and style. For Shocked, dressed now not in leather, but a more comfortable black .two-piece outfit, nursing a coke with her straw, the video was amusing, but also embarrassing. MIND IF I COUGH

By Roy Locke It amazes me the way people become tffttyf so defensive when someone threatens to deny them their right to smoke in public places. But what amazes me even mole is that my right, as a non-smoker, to breathe fresh air (what little there is in New York) is never taken into consideration. When I see someone smoking in any given area, as much as I hate smoke, it would be rather brazen of me to place myself next to him and then ask that individual to extinguish his cigarette because it bothers me! No smoker would like that sort of infringement on his right to smoke. Is it not fair then for me to receive the same respect I give to you smokers, so that when I am approached you will have the decency to ask me if it is okay to "light up." I really don't appreciate it when a friend of mine (who probably won't be a friend after he/she reads this) comes to speak to me and habitually lights up a cigarette. Maybe it's a pet peeve of mine, but carbon monoxide going straight up my nose is not a desirable sensation! So to all the smokers out there, please, if you demand your right to smoke, I'll exercise my right to cough, hack and wheeze in your face - even if you are not smoking! Global wanning.
