23 May 2021 + Pentecost Sunday

This Sunday brings to a close the Easter Season. This week also brings to a close the school year. Memorial Day approaches and summer is here! I want to thank all of our teachers and administrators for completing a successful "in person" school year, in our own school, our religious education program, and in our public schools. It is absolutely amazing how polarized our country has been concerning "in person" education. By the efforts and in some ways, courage of our educators and parents to support "in person" education this year they have not only shored up the foundational education of our children, but have given them an environment of normalcy as children. I have heard from parents in various parts of our country, who were caught in the lockdown of education through virtual learning. Not only did their children's education suffer, but so too, their mind and spirit. All of us who went on with life during this past year and adapted as necessary are perplexed as to why others did not do the same. It is like living in two different worlds! It is now time to close our schools (except for summer programs) and take those vacations with family and friends that have been put on hold for a long time. This past week I was able to pick up my garden supplies and get my garden and flowers planted. I did this on Tuesday and, by God's grace, the rains came! At least in our area the grass, trees, and foliage are lush and green. By the way, let me share a little secret. If you see some strange looking objects in my vegetable garden, they are upside-down laundry baskets! I discovered them a couple of years ago as a way to not only protect the tender plants from hungry little creatures, but also protect the plants from a light frost, hail and wind. Once the plants have matured, and start busting out of them, I take them off. How much did they cost me? $.99 a piece! Just a thought for those who find their tender plants nibbled to the ground! Have a great week! I hope to see many of you during Ringelspiel Days!

A Virtual 50th Jubilee Anniversary Celebration There will be a special Mass with Bishop Callahan held via live-stream at 1:00 pm on Sunday, 11 from the Cathedral. You will be able to view the live stream or recording by visiting diolc.org/marriage on and after .
