Dhanbad Division-A Historical Perspective Dhanbad Division-A Historical Perspective Dhanbad is a premier coal loading division of Indian Railways. The first colliery line on this division was laid in 1894 and the Grand Chord section was opened in 1906. The division was initially created as a transportation sub-division of Asansol division in 1946. A full-fledged division became operational in 1963. Dhanbad division was initially one of the five divisions of the Eastern Railway but after the formation of ‘East Central Railway’ on 1stOctober, 2002,Dhanbad division became part of East Central Railway along with four other divisions i.e. Mughalsarai, Danapur, Sonepur and Samastipur with headquarter at Hajipur. Dhanbaddivision primarily loads coal. Most of the coal is carried to ‘Up’ country power houses located in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and U.P. Coal is also loaded for industries (non-core) located in Northern India. Coal also moves for ‘Down’ country destinations viz. power houses located in West Bengal, and washed coal to steel plants located at Durgapur, IISCO Burnpur & Tisco. Other commodities loaded on the division are bauxite from Tori, Richughuta and Meralgram for Hindalco plant at Renukoot, lime stone/dolomite from Bhavnathpur for Bokaro steel plant and cement from ACC-Sindri and Lemos-Khalari. The territorial jurisdiction of the division covers Pradhankhunta(incl.)-Manpur(excl.), Gomoh-Barkakana-Garwa Road-Chopan, Chopan-Singrauli-Mahadiya, Karaila Road- Shaktinagar, Dhanbad-Sindri town, Dhanbad-Patherdih & Dhanbad-Chandrapura sections. It deals with traffic on two important routes namely G.C. (Grand Chord) section from Pradhankhunta to Manpur& the CIC (Central Industrial Coalfields) section from Gomoh-Barkakana-Garwa road. The division has vast geographical area covering 4 states i.e., Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh and 13 districts - Dhanbad, Giridih, Hazaribagh, Koderma, Nawada, Gaya, Bokaro, Ranchi, Latehar, Palamau, Garwa, Sidhi & Sonebhadra. The Division today covers 3 distinct coal mining areas viz., the Jharia Coalfields serving primarily Bharat Coking Coal Limited, Karanpura area serving primarily Central Coalfields Ltd., and the Singrauli Coalfields of the Northern Coalfields Ltd. The Parasnath Jain temple which finds its mention in the world tourists Pilgrim destination, built in 1867 and dedicated to Sheetalnathji, the 10th of the 24 tirthankaras, is situated on this division. Parasnath, the 23rdthirthankara, achieved ‘NIRVANA’ here some 100 years after his birth. • Mine Closure Report for Govindpur Phase-Ii Open Cast Project (1.2 Mty)
MINE CLOSURE REPORT FOR GOVINDPUR PHASE-II OPEN CAST PROJECT (1.2 MTY) (CENTRAL COALFIELDS LIMITED) AUGUST 2011 Regional Institute – III Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Ltd. (A Subsidiary of Coal India Ltd.) Gondwana Place, Kanke Road Ranchi-834008, Jharkhand 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 About the Mine Govindpur OCP was worked earlier. Upper Kargali seam was planned and worked under the name of Govindpur OCP. The same report was expanded to include the underlying Bermo seam under the name of Govindpur Expansion OCP. The present Govindpur Ph-II OCP was planned as a new project to extract coal up to the lower most opencastable seam (i.e. Karo-VI seam) including area already worked in Govindpur OCP & Govindpur Expansion OCP. Total leasehold area of Govindpur Ph-II OCP includes both virgin and worked area. The name Govindpur Ph-II is incidental as in Ph-I, the upper seams of Kargali and Bermo have already been worked under the name of Govindpur OCP & Govindpur Expansion OCP (Not as Govindpur Ph-I OCP). History of Mine The PR of this project was prepared as a new project. The report proposed to exploit the upper Karo Group of seams (Seam VI to XI) based on the “Geological Report on Coal Exploration Govindpur North Block, East Bokaro Coalfield” prepared in Dec 2001 and the area south of Bermo Seam incrop upto 180 m depth line on Seam-VI floor in the south, bounded on the east by Mantico Nalla and on the west by Borrea Fault (F7-F7). This is a sector not covered in the geological report of Gobindpur North block (2001), and has now been defined for including additional reserves south of the original limits of Gobindpur North block.

  • Town Survey Report, Dhanbad, Part XB, Series-4, Bihar
CENSUS OF INDIA 1981 PARTXB SERIES 4 BIHAR TOWN SURVEY REPORT DHANBAD Drafted by Rajendra Prasad Asstt. Director Edited by S.C. Saxena Deputy Director Supervised by V.K. Bhargava Deputy Director Directorate of Census Operations BIHAR FOREWORD Apart from the decennial enumeration of population, the Indian Census is ~teeped in the tradition of undertaking a variety of studies of topical interest. In fact, the publications brought out in connection with the earlier censuses contained veritable mines of informatfon! On racial, cultural, linguistic and a number of other aspects of life of the people of this country. With the advent of freedom, however, the scope and dimension of these special studies had to be re structured in a manner that would provide the basic feedbacks on the processes of development taking place in different spheres of life of the people especially under planned development. Thus, in connection with the 1961, Census, a massive programme wa~s launched inter-alia to conduct socio-economic survey of about 500 villages selected from different parts of the country. The main objective of this study was to know the way of life of the people living in Indian villages which accounted for 82 per cent of the total population as per the 1961 Census. There was, however, an imperative need to extand the area of the study to urban centres as well, to -provide a complete coverage of the people living in diverse sodo economic conditions. It was with this objective in view ancillary studies on towns were launched as part of the social studies programme in connection with the 1971 Census.
