Chesapeake’s dominant top ranked defense has held opponents to a league low 116 goals allowed and helped backed up an offense that is quietly heating up. The Bayhawks are coming off a great 16-13 team victory over the New York Lizards on Saturday, July 7. With almost every team now depleted as a result of the world games, Chesapeake’s new additions served the team well in the last victory. “It isn’t about who doesn’t play, but who does play and who produces,” head coach Dave Cottle said. Jeremy Sieverts came back to the team that drafted to score a goal and three assists in his season debut with the Bayhawks. Myles Jones presence with the Bayhawks gives an added physical presence to the offense, as he notched an impressive hat trick display last time out. In addition, Bayhawks top-scorer Colin Heacock moved down to his preferred attack position, adding a dynamic dodger from the left wing that Chesapeake has used to its advantage all season long. Former Virginia Cavalier Steele Stanwick added two goals and an assist last game as the new quarterback of the offense. Close defenseman Garrett Epple held the league’s top scorer, Rob Pannell, to just two points last game to lead an incredible defensive effort against one of MLL’s top offenses. Standout goalie Niko Amato again stepped up big time in goal for the Bayhawks, making 19 saves against a quick-fire Lizards attack. “We give a great effort and we care about each other and that is a good start,” Cottle said. Charlotte (6-6) lost its last game 14-9 against the league leading Dallas Rattlers on July 7. Currently in the fourth and final playoff spot in the league standings, the Hounds are a half a game out of the playoff picture entirely and will take this game as an opportunity to strengthen their chances at securing a playoff berth. The Hounds have had a roller coaster of a season, losing their last four contests after starting the season with a 6-2 record to go with a couple blowout victories early in the season, most notably the 25-7 landslide on their season opener against the Boston Cannons on April 21. Former Tewaaraton winner Matt Rambo headlines a talented Charlotte offense while goalie Charlie Cipriano will anchor the defense in net. There will be playoff positioning on the line during Saturday night’s matchup in what promises to be a game to remember. Watch the Bayhawks play at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium against the New York Lizards on Saturday evening at 7:00pm EST. Games will be replayed on NBC Sports Washington on July 7th at 11:00pm EST, July 8th at 12:00pm EST & 9:00pm EST, and July 9th at 12:00pm EST. HEADLINE: Fourteen former Terps showcased in Charlotte Hounds matchup It may be the Dog Days-themed game against the Hounds on Saturday night, but a bunch of former Terps are representing both MLL squads in an important matchup at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Often considered the lacrosse capital of the world, Maryland has been producing some of the most talented professional lacrosse players in the country in recent years. Since current head coach John Tillman took over the program in 2011, the Terps have produced more pros in the MLL than any other college program with 36 overall. An impressive 14 former Terrapins will play in Week 9’s matchup, evenly split seven apiece between Charlotte and Chesapeake. Bayhawks fans will see four of the top-25 scorers in the league, all of whom had graduated from College Park. Charlotte’s Matt Rambo leads the way as the league’s eighth-leading scorer with 43 points (26 goals, 17 assists), while his college roommate Colin Heacock leads a balanced Bayhawks offense with 31 points (19 goals, 1 2PT, 11 assists). The 2017 title-winning attackman trio of “Run DMV” will be represented in full force with Charlotte’s Dylan Maltz. The Hounds drafted two Terrapin midfielders in this year’s draft – offensive midfielder Tim Rotanz and short stick defensive midfielder Adam DiMillo – alongside veteran midfielders Mike Channenchuk and Kevin Cooper. Close defenseman Max Schmidt rounds out the Terrapin presence on the Hounds. For Chesapeake, short stick defensive midfielders Isaiah Davis-Allen and Nick Manis, both goalies Niko Amato and Brian Phipps and newly acquired offensive talents Jay Carlson and Jeremy Sieverts will suit up for the Bayhawks as former Terps. Bayhawks head coach and general manager Dave Cottle coached at the University of Maryland for nine seasons from 2002-2010. Cottle coached Cooper, Phipps, Schmidt, and Sieverts during his tenure in College Park. Coach Cottle said, 4 “There is no question that the Maryland players have had a major impact on the league as players, but what goes unnoticed is their effect on the locker room.” Cheer on the Terrapin contingent representing the Bayhawks as they look to take another step closer to making the playoffs for the first time since winning it all in 2013. 2018 STANDINGS TEAM WIN LOSS GAMES BEHIND Dallas 9 2 - Chesapeake 8 2 .5 Denver 7 4 2 Charlotte 6 6 3.5 New York 5 6 4 Atlanta 4 6 4.5 Florida 4 7 5 Boston 3 8 6 Ohio 3 8 6 2018 GAME-BY-GAME RESULTS GAME DATE OPP.
